I tried to watch Mr. Rogers a couple times and was bored to tears. I understand he was a very nice man and did a lot for children, but he had no energy whatsoever and I'm surprised he was so popular.
I'm too young for Micky Mouse Club - they brought it back in reruns a couple decades later, but by that time I was too old, and the show looked very dated.

I enjoyed the movie version of SISTER ACT, and I like all of the music that I have heard from the show. Tacoma Musical Playhouse is doing the show this season, so I am hoping to see it then.

I did not enjoy watching Mr Rogers, bored the heck out of me. Our oldest son loved him so I watched. I think he was calming after the energy of Sesame Street. He also addressed simple things children were afraid of that adults always don't think of.

When Bryan was five I was in the kitchen while he was watching Mr Rogers and walked in to ask me why he was watching someone get a hair cut. He understood my explanation that some children are afraid of haircuts, a nice lesson on compassion but I think he began to get a bit bored with the show after that

I find the subject of local TV programs of the 1950s-1960s an oddly fascinating one. Of course such a history would continue well beyond that, but those were "my" years of watching, and part of my interest is the fact that those were also the first years of TV itself. The local programs, especially, were bound to be fairly primitive in production value and even content, and I just find that fascinating.

My two favorite categories are (1) the type of children's programs we're talking about today, and (2) the various and sundry late night horror movie anthologies hosted by local imitators of Vampira and Elvira and the like. These things contributed their own indelible stamp on our childhoods.

OMG, here's another thing in those "You Grew Up In" / "Do You Remember" Facebook groups that makes me want to throw up: the number of posts ending with, or just saying only: "Good times" - or, for variation, "Great times" - just after someone has reminded the person of something they're suddenly finding very nostalgic about.

Now, on the face of it, there should be nothing wrong with saying that. But it's the folksy aspect of the expression, and the way I generally hear people saying it, that I react to. Not to mention, of course, the absolute overuse of it in the first place.

This, for your reading pleasure, has been a rant. Not a rave.

I concur with the rant. My biggest pet peeve are the same threads being posted over and over again - someone just posted about the 50th Wallichs Music City thread, Helms pops up every two days, as do the kiddie show hosts of the 50s. It's really easy to search threads on these groups. But the funny bit is the same people respond in every thread as if there's never been a thread. They are, in a word, morons.

Many of the shows mentioned by other readers of a certain age certainly ring a bell with me.

Thanks to all for the vibes - I shall be on my way to Opening Night. Two of my sisters will be in the audience.....I hope we get a good response....of course the student friends of the student actors will WAHOO and WHISTLE and STOMP for them...and at any reference that is in the least suggestive.

Well, in just a few minutes at 2:00, we're having a staff meeting regarding the article in the local paper about the library: Sweeping changes -- including library closures -- proposed in Timberland facilities plan.

But, I'm going to leave before 3:00 because that's when my family is meeting at Falls Terrace Restaurant to celebrate my sister's birthday! Then tonight, I'm going to see King Lear with Ian McKellen at the movie theater!
