Well, you've read the notes, the notes got their bearings and had a ball so they had their ball bearings, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently getting their bearings from the actual bears.
-
And the word of the day is: AUDACIOUS!
-
And now - Dino at the piano.
-
From last night...Tom, I did enjoy the Hal Prince documentary. I enjoyed it very much.
-
They had footage from several original Broadway productions that I'd never seen before. One was Ethel Shutta singing "Broadway Baby" from Follies. That was great and in color.
-
I don’t suppose........
Hint, hint, hint!!
-
As usual, I am totally hyped-up and not even close to being tired.
-
I only had one glass of apple cider, since I was driving!
-
I am listening to RAGTIME. One of the great musicals of all time.

Hey, Washington pals! I'm planning on taking a train trip to Seattle and staying a couple days. Do you know a nice, reasonably priced hotel for me?

Hey, Washington pals! I'm planning on taking a train trip to Seattle and staying a couple days. Do you know a nice, reasonably priced hotel for me?
Wow. Not off the top of my head. There is a Quality Inn, or something similar about half way between downtown and the Seattle Center. I’ll see if i can track down the name of the place.
-
Thanks, Tom. There's no rush as it won't be till next year.
-
I don't know anything about hotels in Seattle. Sorry I can't help, jan.
-
Thanks, Tom. There's no rush as it won't be till next year.
Okay, I will see what I can find out.
-
George, you are very quiet tonight.
-
Oh, George, did you record the Hal Prince thing for me?
-
Oh, George, did you record the Hal Prince thing for me?
Yes, I did. And I'm burning the DVD right now.
-
George, you are very quiet tonight.
I got distracted. After setting up my DVD burner, I started watching Saturday Night Live from a couple of weeks ago.
-
Oh, George, did you record the Hal Prince thing for me?
Yes, I did. And I'm burning the DVD right now.
I don’t suppose........
Hint, hint, hint!!
-
Goodnight, George.
-
Good night, Tom.
-
I'm off to bed.
Have a good day, all!
-
I love the musical version of RAGTIME. Saw it, years ago, at the Shubert in Los Angeles.
I wish they'd make it into a movie.
-
T.O.D.
My favorite version of A STAR IS BORN is the original with Janet Gaynor and Fredric March. Great action; good simple storytelling.
The Garland/Mason remake has great songs, but it's a bit overblown.
I won't even discuss the Streisand version. I am not a fan of Ms. Streisand.
Maybe I'll catch the Bradley Cooper/Lady Gaga version when it airs on HBO or Showtime.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Dreams have been slightly recall-able but quite amorphous these past two days. All I know is that they were derived from some aspect of last weekend’s musical gig, while having nothing whatsoever to do with music. This is not particularly unusual. Just sayin’.
-
Good morning, all!
-
Last night I slept sandwiched between Annabelle and Thatch. We were quite snug and warm. My bad leg keeps me restless, and I worry about rolling over one of them. I would hate to injure either of them.
-
Annabelle's sitting in yesterday's Amazon carton and waiting for me to clean the litter. Then she can patrol.
-
Page 2 Dance!
-
Good morning!
-
Good morning, all.
-
J.B. is screaming away in the background. He's glad I'm home.
-
TOD:
I enjoy the soundtracks to the Garland and Streisand versions better than the movies. I think the Gaynor version is my favorite. I haven't seen the new one.
-
I've decided to do laundry, so it's in the washers.
-
Congratulations, TCB, on a great opening night.
-
Last night we watched No Pay, Nudity. I think I liked it more than BK did, but I wanted to like it more than I did for Lee Wilkof's sake, since he's been a friend for years. I liked the cast quite a lot, and I was amazed by Nathan Lane's performance. I spent a good part of the movie wondering what actor was playing Herschel. I didn't recoognize him at all. I wish I'd seen him last year as the dastardly Roy Cohn in Angels in America.
-
Now that the laundry is in the works, I need to make the bed and look for a song on Youtube.
-
DR ELMORE has done so much work this morning, that I AM TIRED. So I will sit down at the computer.
I am making chicken and noodles for the first time.....so far so good....just getting the chicken done.....
-
TOD:
Judy Garland version.....it is terrific EXCEPT that I don't like James Mason....his voice is great, but his face....WOW....and his mannerisms in ALL of his movies set my teeth on edge....
I like Fredric March in the 1937 version....but Janet Gaynor is a bit of a simp....
Don't like ANYTHING about the Streisand version.....
I LIKED the newest version because I am a Bradley Cooper fan....the music is what it is....it's the music of today so of course it will age faster than the music in the Garland version which is pretty much classic.....but skewing the story toward Cooper didn't bother me....and Gaga was good....
It will probably get some Oscar nods, but not sure if it will get any awards....
-
I am glad DR TCB had a good evening.
-
I wonder if DR George saw his "hint" request ;)
-
Yes congrats to DR TCB on his opening night.
Performance vibes for DR TCB and the company of A CAROL CHRISTMAS today!
-
I got my copy of DEAD WAKE yesterday, but it is an uncorrected proof, which wasn't stated in the info.....if there are any photos in the book....I didn't get them. There is only one Lusitania photo at the beginning.....
-
Great news from TCB!!!

Performance vibes for DR TCB and the company of A CAROL CHRISTMAS today!
DITTO & DITTO!
-
I hope to be back here more in December.
-
Yes, more A CAROL CHRISTMAS vibes!

I'm up, I'm up - almost eight hours of sleep.
-
elmore, I didn't see Lee's movie - but would like to.
-
elmore, I didn't see Lee's movie - but would like to.
My bad. Sorry, BK!
Then who posted about it? Maybe it was DR JohnG.
-
I did a search: DR JohnG on 10/17.
-
I shall now be on my way to the theater. After the show, we'll probably grab a bite to eat, then I'll come home until it's time for the evening show.
-
I hope to be back here more in December.
That will be nice :)
-
BK - Then you'll hit your next millstone when you come back.
-
Thanks. Jane!!!

In spite of the Christmas play, I have no Christmas spirit - yet.

I am still chuckling over our missing Santa Claus.

Of course, the audience didn't know he was missing.

I also stopped at the Texas Roadhouse yesterday, they were running a special, buy $100 in gift cards get a $30 coupon.
-
So today Vixdad and I went to the Roadhouse for lunch.
-
The bill was $34.60
-
Vixmom, I also want you to do my shopping for me. Fortunately for me, I'm almost done.
-
And anyone who doesn't get a gift before I leave will just have to accept New Year's presents.
-
Most of the restaurants that offer an extra gift card for buying a gift card, don't allow the freebie to be used until January.

I think we have been having a frenzy!

Hello there, Tom, John, and Charles!
-
I receive the Vixters "save the date" in the mail yesterday
-
It says "Victoria & Charles are getting married"
-
It doesn't have last names
-
Or a picture of them
-
Great shopping success DR VIXMOM!
-
My sister wants to go to Ollies - but I don't expect to do so before Tuesday.

Hello there, Tom, John, and Charles!
Howdy yourself, Vixmom!

So, are you sure you've got the right people? Could be one of the other three or four Charles and Victorias you know?

I know three sets of Steves and Sandys. White, Black and Smith.

I hope everyone who gets them knows who sent them

Hi Jack!

HORRIBLE.
Coco has been moved to Monday's euthanasia list, but the status of the other dogs is still in jeopardy. Poor Obie was a happy dog when he was adopted a month ago and the adopter returned him four days ago for nit being nice to her guests. Now he is terrified and after three days they put him on the kill list. Her owner said she loved cuddling with him and he loved his toys and his blanket. Now he has nothing/ You expect him to be happy?
This must be stopped. The shelters must be made no-kill for adoptable animals. I know there are animals that are beyond adoption status for health or behavior, but there's not a single one on this list that should be murdered.
-
I have been watching the Game of Thrones marathon on HBO

Hi, vixmom.

I see Jack has joined our merry group

Me, too. Since it's part six, we're due for an update on who was killed, rescued, or moved to Monday's killing list.

-
Hello, everyone.
-
Congrats to Vixmom on her very successful shopping and bargains.
If she keeps this up maybe she can quit her job.
(Well, I can dream.)
-
Vibes that TCB soon feels good about the show he's in.
-
I noticed in an advertisement received in yesterday's mail, that they had a sale starting today on the Nuwave 3 quart air fryer .
Vixmom, do let us know how you like the air fryer. I don't know anyone who has one and I haven't tasted anything from one, but I read lots of rave reviews. Sounds like a much healthier approach to frying.
-
I'm having trouble this year thinking of Christmas presents. I checked Amazon and found that some of the DVDs that I've been wanting dropped in price. Yay! I ordered them. But that doesn't help my Christmas list.
-
TTFN.
-
We just ordered dinner in from Ollie's on 42nd Street. The chow fun was excellent.
-
Matinee over and I came right home. The cast did a great job, the pace was great, we had close to forty people, which was much more than I thought we'd have, but like last Saturday evening's audience they sat there like big lumps of dead fish the entire show. At least last Saturday they came alive towards the end of the show. And yet, they came up after and said they LOVED it, it cheered them up and made them feel good. I mean, when I feel good I smile and have fun. I will never ever understand it. Rob Stevens was there to review it (we had three reviewers today) so given the audience I think it's a tough call whether he'll like it or not. His plus one did like it very much (his plus one was also a HUGE Welcome to My World fan - came six times during the run). But the show itself was probably the tightest and most energetic it's been and my cast member who mangles lyrics got them all correct today.
-
I stopped at a nearby Ameci's and got three slices of pepperoni pizza. They're pretty small slices and they kind of taste like cardboard with not much flavor in the tomato sauce, but they're not horrible. Just makes me appreciate Dino's even more.

Good evening.

We just ordered dinner in from Ollie's on 42nd Street. The chow fun was excellent.
I didn't realize Ollie's was still there. I recall it was well priced and delicious.

Our Christmas list now consists of our two sons and one daughter in-law. We don't even decorate anymore since no one comes home.

Shortly I shall be on my way back to the theater for our evening performance. Then I see the matinee tomorrow, and then I may take a break and only see one show next weekend or maybe not any, unless I know people coming.
-
Excellent reviews, BK. And congrats on the milestone.
-
I ended up with a free evening, so I ushered for The Nutcracker. They needed folks and even though I'm set to usher it again next weekend, I went in. The symphony sounded great. There were new costumes and new choreography, which was actually quite enjoyable. About 800 showed, which is half a house. But they were really with it.
-
Good night, all.
-
Great that the show's getting such good reviews!
-
I mean, when I feel good I smile and have fun.
Sounds radical. I may try that. :)

Can't you ask Rob's plus-one who had a great time to write a guest column?

-
Tonight we watched the beautiful film ALPHA. I wish we had seen it in a theater with a big screen.
-
Back from our evening show. About the same number of people but these people were laughing from the beginning and really had a great time. So, that was nice. There was a reviewer there, but this same reviewer saw LA Now and Then and never ended up writing the review, and I suspect that will be the case here. There was an issue with the reverb (slight) tonight - it got fixed about twenty minutes in. The sound was better at both shows, though. And there was one silly light cue flub that didn't get fixed fast enough. I mean when you see actors are singing and in the dark it means you forgot to push "go" so push it already, don't wait another thirty seconds. Everyone was good tonight, and Hartley sang through her cold very well and hopefully she'll feel even better tomorrow. Tomorrow we have lots more people coming, already up to seventy and I suspect it will go higher, and now I'm hoping we've had our two light performances and that we'll now fill up.
-
Laughter, wonderful :)
-
Feel better vibes for Hartley!
Stay well vibes for the rest of the cast!
-
I wonder if DR George saw his "hint" request ;)
Yes, I did, and he's on the list. Anyone else??*

I receive the Vixters "save the date" in the mail yesterday
I got a "save the date" card from my friend David. He and his wife got married in a civil ceremony late last year, but they're going to have a religious ceremony in his native Yucatan for his family and any of their friends who'd like to go. It's not until next October, but if I go I won't know ANYONE other than David and his wife. :-\

Story narrator/New York Sun publisher Edward P. Mitchell guides the audience through myriad scene changes and keeps the story in context. Played exquisitely by Tom Birkeland, the role is the anchor piece for what happens on stage.
Congrats, Tom!

I don’t know how to do it, the snazzy way George does it.
What's the snazzy way? Hot-linking like THIS (http://www.dramainthehood.net/2018/11/virginia-lovely-play-Lakewood/)?
-
Of course I am not surprised.

That's great, BK! Good luck on the reviews!
