Well, you've read the notes, the notes were envious of the two-show day since they were only a one-notes day, and now it is time for you to post until the two-show cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: WAGGISH!
-
And now - Dino at the piano.
-
First post after BK.
-
First post after TCB!
-
BK, congrats on the great reviews AND the 97,000+ posts! ;D
-
Goodnight.
-
Good night, Tom.
-
What is this good night malarkey. It is the shank of the evening, although I have no idea what that actually means.
-
Listening to a George Lloyd symphony. Very nice.
-
Good morning, all!
-
Congratulations to BK and DR TCB for excellent reviews!
-
I had a dream that I was either orchestrating or composing and orchestrating an opera and I had really, really large score paper for the job. The dream included former friend and scumbag Ethan Mordden, my brother Randy as a very young boy, and my friend Ella Martin.
-
It should be a quiet day. I need to dig out some score paper for my two choral arrangements, clear my writing table, and tidy up a bit.
-
The four dogs I was worried about have been relisted for death tomorrow afternoon after 1:00.
-
Congrats to MR BK & CO on their reviews and MR BK himself on his millstone!
Congrats to the exquisite DR TCB on his review!
-
Good morning, all.
-
We just indulged in a breakfast of eggs, bacon, and rye toast. Haven’t done that in a while and it was all perfect. The thick cut bacon from BJ’s was to die for.
-
Sipping my second cup of coffee, Stew Leonard’s NYC roast.
-
There’s a subtle “Annie” reference embedded in that post, just for you aficionados (you know who you are).
-
Annabelle's having a hold-me morning. She's being very clingy. When we came up from our patrol, I discovered a flea had hopped on me, so I'm checking medications for her and Thatch on Amazon.
-
Good morning to all

Update:
Meeting with the producer on Tuesday.
Show #1 will be promoted at APAC in New York in January for touring with a Grammy nominee and multiple MAC/Backstage Bistro Award-winning performer in the lead. 2019-2020 season.
Show #2: Broadway Tony Award producer looking at it. Did an elevator pitch and he liked it.
Show #3: Looking at the logistics with the producer to get one actor to do a sit-down engagement or multiple actors to tour one-offs regionally. Looking TV actors and at two who have won Emmys.
Show #4: Pitching new show.
I hope that 2019 will be the turnaround for me and I don't have to work retail anymore.
-
Good morning.
-
I'm so glad TCB's show and BK's show are going well.
-
I hope it works out, too, Michael.
-
DR Michael, may all your dreams come true in 2019.
-
Thinking about it, may the dreams of all Dear Readers come true in 2019

Story narrator/New York Sun publisher Edward P. Mitchell guides the audience through myriad scene changes and keeps the story in context. Played exquisitely by Tom Birkeland, the role is the anchor piece for what happens on stage. Director Aaron Mohs-Hale hit a home run with Mr. Birkeland, who has never been better than he is in this outing. Wryly humorous at times, and sternly sober in others Birkeland drifts back and forth from narrator to publisher with seamless grace. As Mitchell, his care for an employee in a bad way shows through a gruff exterior. As show guide, Mr. Birkeland is just what Mohs-Hale asked for in this spot.
-
That was so good I just had to read it again

Well, I must be off. Today, we're scheduled for a 2-1/2 hour rehearsal, and it's all dance. I don't think I'll need to be there the whole time, though. I'm only in a few numbers. "Up On Santa's Lap" is my big song, so I'm sure that that'll be choreographed today.
Have a good rest of the day, all!
-
I'm up, I'm up - six hours of sleep. Had difficulty falling asleep.
-
Congrats, Michael! This is great news.
-
Exciting review for TCB.
-
So excited for you DR MICHAEL.....proceed!!!!
-
Lovely review for TCB.
-
I shall shortly be on my way to the theater.
-
Great to see DR FJL around these here parts.
-
Well our tree is up
-
It's not decorated or anything , but it's up
-
Good evening, all.
-
Congratulations, TCB, on the great review.
-
All the best for 2019, Michael. Sounds great.
-
I started the morning by oversleeping and missing church. Then I went back to sleep and almost missed dance.
-
Then three hours of fun before grabbing some lunch. Afterwards, it was nap time.
-
I'm now half awake but caught up.
-
A production of Berlioz's Benvenuto Cellini is playing. Directed by Terry Gilliam, it is visually exciting, and I'm liking the music so far. I don't know the work at all.
-
The temperature has dropped here. It's getting more winter-like.
-
Nicholas Roeg has died. I have Don't Look Now in my to-watch stack.

Hello, everyone.
-
CONGRATS to BK & Co on such stellar reviews.
-
CONGRATS to TCB, too, on his stellar review.
-
CONGRATS to DR Michael on his exciting upcoming events.

Let's move on ...

tHREE!

CAPS LOCK ON!
-
Hi, Jeanne!
-
How are you feeling?
-
I have no news.
-
Vibes to all for a good week ahead.
-
TTFN.
-
Hi, John G!
-
I'm OK, thanks, but feel tired just hearing about your day.
-
Three hours of dance! Quite exhausting! But fun.
-
I'm about to watch CRAZY, RICH ASIANS.
-
A second TTFN.
-
I'm about to watch CRAZY, RICH ASIANS.
Enjoy.
-
Act I is coming to a close with a Venetian carnival that includes a circus with dozens of extras including a man dressed in a nude suit adorned with a cucumber and two beets between his legs. Gilliam at his overwrought best.
-
It's not decorated or anything , but it's up
Nice. I miss having a tree.
-
I started the morning by oversleeping and missing church. Then I went back to sleep and almost missed dance.
Obviously you needed to sleep.
-
I'm about to watch CRAZY, RICH ASIANS.
Where are you watching it? It is still playing in some theaters here.
-
It has been a good while since we went to a movie theater. If I had been thinking ahead we would have done so on Thanksgiving since we had the entire day before meeting friends in Portland for our 6:30 dinner.
-
It is just as well I didn't think ahead. My plan was to stay in a hotel in downtown Portland and walk to see a movie. Then we could have had drinks at the hotel before going to dinner with a short drive back to the hotel after dinner. It turned out we didn't need to stay in a hotel to avoid traffic and there wasn't any due to our late traveling times.

A major pet peeve, people who share sad "lost" stories on Facebook WITHOUT checking the status of the lost person or pet first.
-
First I click on the shared story to see if there is an update. About half the time there is one at the top of the story saying the person has been found, and sometimes that the pet has been found.
-
If there isn't an update I begin reading the comments where I will usually find one or more people saying "found"
-
If I haven't succeeded yet I do a google search that often reports "found" be it safe or a sad ending.
-
All of the above takes only seconds to a few minutes. If I find news I share it with the person that posted on FB. Do they update their post, or delete-NOPE. It is just left there for more people to share >:(
-
Starting to watch John Boorman's WWII film, Hope and Glory, which has long been a favorite of mine. I remember seeing this in the theater the week it opened and loved every minute of it then.
-
Hello, 1 guest!
-
What's your favorite WWII remembrance film?
-
Woody Allen's Radio Days?
-
Steven Spielberg's Empire of the Sun?
-
Let's move on ...
-
Four!
-
Back from a completely sold out matinee - took everyone by surprise, in fact we had to add chairs as there was overflow. Show wasn't a sharp as the two previous performances and the theater was too cold, which is a huge bugaboo with me because audiences that are too cold will not laugh. I warn of this every time. So, the new rule is seventy-three and no less and seventy-four if it still seems chilly.
The audience was fine, but cold. I'm going to send a few actors notes for next week. Our one gal who mangles lyrics was back at it again after two perfect shows, and the lines she screwed up were so easy and kind of impossible to screw up if you actually know what you're singing about. She covers herself simply by slurring and not really saying words at all. And she was slow in her second scene. Several actors were tripping over lines, too, which is baffling two weeks into the run. But the audience really enjoyed it and the talkback after was fun. The Shermans loved it and after the talkback we went to Ca Del Sol, a nice Eyetalian jernt, since Tony's Bella Vista didn't open until four-thirty. The food was very good. So, a fun afternoon and now I'm listening to music.
-
Rob Stevens, the critic who I host here didn't really care for the show much at all, our first negative review - not exactly negative as there were things he did like, but three out of five stars and not a review I'll share. I share the others because I know those folks actually did enjoy the show. But I don't take any of them seriously, the good and the bad - as long as audiences are happy and in attendance then I'm happy. Rob didn't care for Levi either so we're on a roll with ol' Rob. :)
-
What's your favorite WWII remembrance film?
Casablanca.
-
Bruce you have a good attitude :)
-
It has been a clear day here. We took a nice long walk in the sun :)
-
Wednesday I had a rather big set-back with my elbow. Today I was finally able to do my exercises and feel as if I am back where I was on Tuesday. Combine this with our lovely day and I am feeling rather happy.

Our problem here in San Antonio is seeing a show in the summer when the AC isn't working. It can be a real unpleasant experience. But somehow that doesn't affect me outdoors at a Shakespeare in the park or anything like that.
-
BK - at least you know for sure now - Rob was being totally honest about all the shows he has liked then.
-
Jrand - I thought I was only gone for two days of posts, but I've missed a lot.
-
It's actually nice to be welcomed back! I may disappear more often because it's so much fun being welcomed back. Nobody can miss you if you won't go away.
-
Maybe I'll post under an assumed name for a while, and then when "FJL" comes back after a year away, I can be like Dolly at the Harmonia Gardens.
-
Yes, FJL, I've been accused of hosting him because we're guaranteed great reviews. And while he certainly has given us great reviews over the years, this and Levi are proof positive that it isn't true. I think he genuinely hates the Group Rep (he's said this to me many times and really didn't want to review this). He also likes more edgy parody stuff, the kind of stuff they do at the Fringe festivals. It's all fine - not everyone is going to like everything. The audience reaction and word of mouth are all that matters. No one listens to critics in LA.

This happens when a reporter for a newspaper writes a play and the paper has to review it, or writes a book that is newsworthy so the paper can't avoid reviewing it. The book thing seems to come up at the Times, since their reporters write quite a few books.

I think you should have a public feud with Rob, :) where you could refuse him tickets unless he'll report what his plus-one thinks, too. I've been noticing even the Times critics have been mentioning what their date or spouse or partner thought when it differed from what the critic thought.

Well, it turns out that I was wrong, and I was wrong. I did need to be there the whole time, and we didn't choreograph "Up On Santa's Lap" today. We went through "Ralphie To the Rescue." It's his fantasy sequence during school where Miss Shields is kidnapped by a bad guy (all set in the wild west) and he and his gun rescue her. We took the whole 2-1/2 hours and got through the song. It was a lot of fun. :D
-
His plus one told me he really liked the show.
-
We are watching SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL SHERRIF :D

:)) That would be funny.
-
I'm running out of time before the trip, so I started writing my Christmas cards when I should have been cleaning house. (I will always have a valid reason for not cleaning house.)
-
I also finished Hope and Glory, which I loved as much this time as I did before.
-
Then I watched the extras on Night and the City, including a wonderful piece on the two soundtracks, the original by Franz Waxman and another that the Brits used.
-

I rarely did this when I was reviewing restaurants, but then again, except for coworkers, I rarely took the same person twice. But in those days, people took the time to develop a relationship with critics. People who hated my tastes could use that, just as much as those who liked my tastes could generally rely on them.
-
It's getting late and I must head to work all too early.
-
Good night, all.

I just learned that there will be a Miss Fisher movie after all. I'd given up hope. Deb Cox, one of the writers on the TV show, is one of the writers. Essie Davis stars. Don't know too much else. Production was supposed to start last month.

DR Jeanne thank you for sharing the exciting news.

Tritto!!
-
Oh, wait! That’s me.
-
Hi, George.
-
Yes, we had a very nice show today.
-
We had an audience of 120 people.
-
I received one of the strangest comments after the show.
-
Hi, George.
Hi, Tom.
-
This old man came up to me, he actually interrupted me in conversation with other audience members, to say, “You are really a lousy actor, but you sure have a great voice!”
-
This old man came up to me, he actually interrupted me in conversation with ther audience members, to say, “You are really a lousy actor, but you sure have a great voice!”
WTF??
-
In fact, he repeated it a second time to me, and then actually went up to the people he was with, to tell them what he said to me.
-
Yeah! Kind of my reaction.
-
He seemed to think it was some funny joke.
-
Did he seem to know any of the other actors, or was he just a regular audience member?
-
No, just a regular audience member. His friends were horrified.

Good! Hopefully, one of them said something to him.

Update:
Meeting with the producer on Tuesday.

I hope that 2019 will be the turnaround for me and I don't have to work retail anymore.
Terrific news, Michael. Best of luck in the coming year.
-
Thank you, all, for the kind words about the review.
-
Yesterday, I got a new (to me) Kindle.
-
I bought it through Offer Up (https://offerup.com/).
-
I only paid $20 and picked it up at his house (his wife was busy and left him with their kid and he couldn't meet me somewhere).
-
I charged it up as I drove home and when I got it home, I signed into my wi-fi account.
-
Is it in good shape?
-
But when I tried to register the Kindle to my Amazon account, I got a message that the Kindle couldn't connect to my wi-fi!
-
Is it in good shape?
It is. It's a 4th generation Kindle, so it doesn't have the keyboard like my previous Kindles did. But what it does still have are page-turn buttons on the sides of it. It's not a touch screen, so turning the pages doesn't require two hands.
-
I ordered a new case for it, even though the case it came in isn't too bad. This one is black and I want something more colorful and easy to identify. I got a purple one. :)
-
And since we're so close...
-
PAGE SIX PURPLE KINDLE CASE DANCE!!
