Well, you've read the notes, the notes were abbreviated like the day, and now it is time for you to post until the abbreviated cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: VOLUBLE!
-
First post after BK!
-
Last night's Bunbury went quite well. Most of the sound and image cues were put in, and I only had to tweek it a little bit as we went through the run through.
-
One track, Neil Armstrong's "One small step for mankind" speech was much too quiet, so I brought home a copy of the file and made it louder. There was also another track of twelve chimes of a clock (for Chekov's The Three Sisters scene) that was too slow, so I shortened each bong (sound) and now it doesn't take as long. The other problems with the rest of the tracks were due to operator error. ::)
;)
-
I worked on a few tweeks to the program after the run, then I went shopping for a new 3-ring binder for my script. The one that was provided was just a folder with metal backets to hold the papers, so it can't lay flat and open. I just got a cheap one. Then, I came home, ate dinner, took my meds, fed my cat, dilly-dallied on the computer a bit to fix the two audio files, and now I'm in bed with my cat laying on top of me, with her trying to make me scratch her head while I'm trying to type these messages on my phone.
-
And on that note (C#), I'm off to bed.
Have a good day, all!
-
Good morning HHW
-
Still thinking about movies I've seen multiple times
-
We have the original Broadway production of Elmore's favorite Sondheim show, Into the woods, on DVD. We watch it every Christmas while setting up the tree and usually once more sometime during the year. I am not sure if that counts as play or movie for the purposes of yesterday's TOD
-
I know, he loathes it
-
WFO, yes I believe I did see Duane in 1776.
-
I have also seen Love, Actually dozens of times.
-
The cable stations seem to run it continuously over the Christmas period and whenever we run across it while switching channels we always stop and watch it through
-
Nothing Hill is another favorite, I especially like the "Ain't No Sunshine" sequence, to my mind a brilliant piece of storytelling
-
T.O.D.
I play at the piano (when the keys are marked), but I would like to learn to play it well.

Moving to today's TOD
-
I can barely play the radio, but I would dearly love to be able to play the fiddle
-
Guitar and piano would be nice
-
I attempted all three instruments at various times
-
I am not only talentless, I am ridiculously uncoordinated
-
I cannot make my left hand do something intricate while the right hand performs a different intricate task
-
Good morning, all.
-
Oh man. Yesterday felt like a Sunday, all day, due to the 'mates being home because of the snow impasse and cleanup. And as you might well guess, today is now the Monday.
-
Someone mentioned holiday movies, and that's one more thing I'd have to add to my most seen list. I didn't even think of those, as they're such an integral part of the overall season of repeated traditions. But I'd have to bet that a few of those might actually belong at the top of the list. I mean, when you think of how many times you must have seen the likes of the Alistair Sim Scrooge, A Christmas Story, The Man Who Came to Dinner, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera... over decades... that could make for an interesting count.
-
I shall soon be on my way to the oncologist.....we shall see what happens.

Singing the song and getting through the afternoon vibes for MR BK.
-
As for today's TOD... it's a mighty good question. And you'd think I'd have a ready answer for it. I don't. Having been a piano and organ (and later, other keyboard instruments) player practically from birth, it took some years before I had any interest in other instruments. But during high school, two such interests did develop: drums (and percussion in general) and woodwinds.
I bought, or coerced my parents into buying, a cheap drum set and I took lessons from a friend who had been playing some of the local shows that were my first involvement in musical theater. This got me far enough to play a couple of shows myself, if not far enough to master true snare drum rolls and the like. Another friend loaned me her flute and piccolo, and I learned the fingerings from a chart and somehow figured out how to make some sounds through most of the range. I can assure you that neither of these ventures went very far, for which I'm sure the world of music is still grateful. But I did really like them and I'm happy for the additional knowledge both experiences provided. I never had the slightest inclination toward, or felt I could ever be good at, any string instrument. Not even guitar and such.
I think that if lightning were to strike and I could suddenly play another instrument, I'd want it to be something easily carried around. When it comes to schlepping instruments, the keyboardists and drummers suffer for everyone else's sins, and as wonderful and fascinating as that world is, I envy the folks with those little carrying cases.

Singing the song and getting through the afternoon vibes for MR BK.
DITTO!
-
And good doctor visit vibes for yourself, Mr. DR Jrand68, sir!
-
Good morning, all!
-
Yes, I went back to bed. Finally got up around 30 minutes ago.
-
I'm on the last section of "The Trolley Song" for London, which I'll finish today or tomorrow/ Then I'll begin my choral arrangement of German operetta numbers, "Wien Wien nur du allein," for San Francisco.
-
Annabelle's quite eager to patrol, so I'm off to patrol the building.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Nine hours of sleep. Happy.
-
Wein, Wein, nur du allein. Sound like my theme song. (Except I haven’t had any lately.)
-
TOD
Bassoon. Love those low notes.
-
Annabelle's quite eager to patrol, so I'm off to patrol the building.
Annabelle: Keeping the building safe.
Except, apparently, from the ghosts. So who ya gonna call?
-
I LOVE the double reed instruments. But I've never so much as held one. I've always assumed I wouldn't get so much as a single note out of an oboe, let alone its larger brethren.
-
Not that the single reeds are a walk in the park. I remember trying to get a few consecutive notes out of my sister's Bb clarinet in high school, and it was tough. I can't imagine getting anything out one of the larger saxophones.
-
TOD:
Saxophone.....

Someone asked about Riverdale....
I watched a few episodes of the first season last year. It's okay....the characters have the names of the folks in the Archie comics, but that's about it.
It's more of a mystery-Scooby Doo type thing...and it is the CW, so you know what to expect. I haven't watched this year.
-
I would like to be able to play the violin. I tried in 7th grade. While it was fun one must be able to tune their own violin which was beyond my abilities.
-
This morning Mike's Tech Shop returned my call from yesterday and I had to tell him that I used another service. He was very nice about it.
-
I am now on three email servers: Apple, my old SeaMonkey, and G-mail. I also know now where my emails are stored on my computer library. Jed recommended that I phase out my SeaMonkey account, keep it as an archive, and move to my G-mail account, which was set up ion 2007 or so by our former DR JoseP.
-
DR JohnG I saw the first season of Riverdale on dvd and I really liked it.
-
I have placed a reservation on the first season of Riverdale. There was only one hold ahead of me.
-
I now need to get through Kingdom Hospital. I'm on episode six. It's getting freakier with every episode. A beheaded corpse just went to claim its head.
-
Second load of laundry today. Things working slowly.
-
This morning Mike's Tech Shop returned my call from yesterday and I had to tell him that I used another service. He was very nice about it.
I would hope so. You still might use him in the future and it did take awhile to get back to you.
-
Good morning.
-
Are you really a BULLY, DR Laura? i find that hard to believe.
-
Criterion is having a 50% off sale on its web site today. I got the new double-disc True Stories set and Hitchcock's Notorious. I could watch that latter movie as much as Casablanca.
-
I'm up, I'm up - about seven hours of sleep.
-
New galley and covers were waiting for me and I've approved and signed off so I should have test books within two weeks.
-
Also, everyone who pre-ordered the book got a really good deal - because the page count is higher in this one, the price went up - I didn't know that until now, so price is going up tonight on our site - so, if you want it for twenty-five bucks now would be a good time to order.
-
T.O.D.
I play at the piano (when the keys are marked), but I would like to learn to play it well.
Ditto. I took piano lessons through middle and high school and a little bit in college, but I never mastered the art. I'd love to be even a little better.

Albert Finney's Scrooge is another that I've seen MANY times!

My library has both the first and second seasons of Riverdale. Season one also only has one hold. Season two has six holds.

I've definitely seen TCB as Scrooge many more times than Albert Finney as SCROOGE, since I only saw the Albert Finney movie twice.

Is "Nothing Hill" a spoof or spell-check playing games again?
-
Spell-check seems to create even more typos, only the words are spelled correctly, so it just looks like we just don't know what we're talking about.
-
I must get ready to go out soon. I'm subbing for a keyboardist at a student band rehearsal where they seem to be just working on three numbers from "Pippin". Should be mildly interesting.

It'll be over in just no time at all DR CHAS SMITH

Me, too.

Finishing up a Jane Smiley novel, At Paradise Gate, that has been hard to take, which is probably why I wanted to read it. It's about a family gathering in the old homestead while the father is dying.
-
Revue rehearsal went well, I gave notes and we finished early. So, in about twenty minutes I'll mosey on over the hill and get food, then go for sound check.

Nine hours of sleep. Happy.
Jealous. :P
And speaking of sleep, I just came across this article: Sleep helps to repair damaged DNA in neurons, scientists find (https://www.theguardian.com/science/2019/mar/05/sleep-helps-to-repair-damaged-dna-in-neurons-scientists-find). :-\
The subject is one of Bing.com (https://www.bing.com/search?q=Sleep+repairs+DNA&filters=tnTID%3a%22B2395079-69F1-4721-86EF-6AF88580DF97%22+tnVersion%3a%222896701%22+segment%3a%22popularnow.carousel%22+tnCol%3a%2242%22+tnOrder%3a%220626e090-3d12-4aeb-9591-ac89a9a22cf6%22&efirst=35&FORM=HPNN01)'s trending topics, so there are more articles there.

I guess I REALLY need to make some changes in my sleeping habits.
-
Hello, everyone.
-
I had another bad night, but fortunately didn't have a lot that needed doing today. And at least I know why I didn't sleep well. There are certain foods I need to be careful with in the evening and I was a bit immoderate. Sigh. The perils of getting old.
-
Everyone knows sleep is important, but most of the articles I see on how to sleep better seem to assume that their suggestions are all doable. What if you have noisy neighbors? What if you live in an apartment and can't control your environment that much? Ugh!
-
Getting back to yesterday's TOD, a film that came to mind was THE BEST OF MEN. Highly recommended.
-
Just had a shrimp po’boy in honor of today being Mardi Gras.
-
This morning Mike's Tech Shop returned my call from yesterday and I had to tell him that I used another service. He was very nice about it.
There's a Mac repair shop not far from me. I've taken my computers in once or twice. They're very good, but they're also VERY busy. I suspect that's true of most of them.
-
My tummy is happy.
-
I need to go home and continue cleaning. But I may stop at Costco first.
-
Fat Tuesday.......every week.

My problem is that I can't recall what I wanted when the sale is on. I now keep a list and just wait until the price is right.
-
Vibes for MR BK.

Wow! Sorry I forgot to post my results. Good to go for another six months.....no BIG C in sight.

Nice way to start Page Four.
-
Does anyone here celebrate Mardi Gras, apart from John G and his po'boy?

That would be hard for me to read.

I still haven't read anything by Smiley. I've had "A Thousand Acres" on my to read list for a long time.
-
I guess I REALLY need to make some changes in my sleeping habits.
I believe the difference between your lack of sleep is actual insomnia. I attempt to sleep while you willingly stay up late ;)
-
Everyone knows sleep is important, but most of the articles I see on how to sleep better seem to assume that their suggestions are all doable. What if you have noisy neighbors? What if you live in an apartment and can't control your environment that much? Ugh!
Or you watch what you eat at night, exercise during the day, go to bed and sleep at a reasonable time, and then are wide away after 10 minutes to an hour of sleep ???

Fat Tuesday was a BIG deal when we lived outside of Detroit. It seemed as if everyone was eating a paczki. I never did get to try one of these.

So, is there a difference between this and a jelly donut, or is it just the Polish name for the same thing?

jrand congratulations on your results! keep up the good fight!

So, is there a difference between this and a jelly donut, or is it just the Polish name for the same thing?
I have seen them deep fried and filled with all sorts of fillings. I looked up your question and found this....
"Paczki are made of a very rich, sweet yeast dough consisting of eggs, butter and milk, donuts' dough is usually not nearly as rich. ... About the only difference is that Pączki uses a richer dough than jelly donuts or Berliners."
-
Because of the attention that Co-op has brought to the original Pennebaker documentary about the recording of Company, apparently Criterion is going to release the original.

Last night we watched the first episode of the ABC Mysteries with John Malkovich as Hercule Poirot. To my surprise we liked it and I find no fault in Malkovich's performance. I think the fact that we are not Poirot purest makes a difference.
-
The great Jude Kaye has somehow been cast as both Barbara Cartland and Queen Elizabeth in a new musical version of Princess Diana.

And now, I must leave. Time to go to the theater and make some audio magic happen!
Be back later.
-
Back, from making some audio magic happen with some kids playing Pippin!
No, not really. But these were good kids who are serious about playing their best in their pit, and it was a short but fun time.
-
Congrats! DR Jrand68!
-
Damn it to HELL, I wish I had some appropriate food with which to celebrate Mardi Gras right about now.
We usually luck out in finding a nice King Cake in the supermarket. Not so this week, for some reason.

This looks better than a typical jelly doughnut. For one thing, the jelly doughnuts I usually see are covered in powdered sugar, and the glaze on this looks so much more appealing. And the dough looks more substantial. Yep, one of these would be great tomorrow morning.
-
Anyhoo...
A CHORUS LINE.
That’s what’s on tomorrow’s agenda. I have three days in which to be able to play the principal book and have my keyboard programmed for piano, electric piano, celeste, and one or two other things. A light load, as these things go. And it should be fun. We meet Saturday morning.
-
The jelly donut looks good, but the slice of cherry pie I had tonight was just the ticket.

The show is going well...so far. We're heading to the last couple of scenes.

There've been a few set change issues, but one of the people who are doing it is here for the first time tonight, so she's learning.

Back to the run-through!

Back from the Nick memorial, a beautiful affair in the commissary of the soon about to be not Twentieth Century Fox - they're already painting over the signs there. Julie Kirgo, Nick's wife, put together a perfect program with just the right number of speakers and just a few moments musical. I was up after the first speaker, Nick's brother. I got through the song (Hushabye Mountain, which was Nick and daughter Rebecca's song) okay, but twice I really had to be strong because Rebecca was sitting just a few feet in front of me weeping her eyes out - I basically had to look over her or I really would have lost it completely. Later, I kind of did when she hugged me and especially when Julie hugged me and said, "He loved you so much." I loved him dearly and I know he would have loved the evening. There were about 150 people there, including a couple of folks that surprised me, since I know Nick did not like them, but Julie, who is the sweetest woman, took pity on them and let them come.
I knew lots of folks there, so I chatted, mostly before, and then a little bit after, my favorite chat being with Diane Baker, who came up to me to tell me how much she liked the song, how she loves getting the Kritzerland CD announcements, and how much fun we had doing the signing shows we did at the same time - neither of us would go anywhere near them now because they've turned into something awful. More in the notes.

Possible snow showers in the morning.

One more post.

I'm home.
-
Hi, Tom.
-
I copied three more of the music tracks and brought them home to make them louder.
-
They got copied a very low levels, and the sound board program can only make them so much louder, which isn't enough.
-
Fortunately, I have a very simple WAV file editor program on my Windows XP computer that can edit them very easily and quickly. :)
-
Hi, Tom.
Hi, George. How did Dumbunny go tonight?

I downloaded a free sound editor for my Windows 10 computer, but I haven't figured out how to use it yet.

Hi, Tom.
Hi, George. How did Dumbunny go tonight?
Quite well, for the most part.
-
I wouldn’t even know what to do with a WAV file editor.
-
Is it a comedy, or a satire, or what?
-
A serious play for trivial people.
-
It's mostly a comedy, but there are some touching moments, and it had a sweet ending...and several kisses between two young men! ;)

Oh, really?
-
Yes! There was also the possibility of a nude scene, but that didn't happen. :(

What?? Who do I complain to?

I’ll let you know about ANGELS IN AMERICA.

I’ll let you know about ANGELS IN AMERICA.
South Puget Sound Community College did it a few months ago. I didn't see it, but Margo did. She said that they did have full frontal nudity...in a college production!
-
They did open the auditions to community members, but I think one of the students got nude.
-
I will be surprised if there is full frontal nudity at Lakewood.
-
Not because they wouldn’t do it, but I have seen no warnings of nudity for the production.

I don't remember seeing any nudity warnings for the college production.

John Munn is usually very good about warning audiences, and this one only says sexual themes.
-
But, you never know.
