Well, you've read the notes, the notes didn't like the apple fritter, so there, and now it is time for you to post until the frittering cows come home.

DR JANE et al - I had a good time at the Reunion.  Attendance was sparse with only about 35 or 40 folks there.

I decided before I went that I would talk to everybody and meet the ones I didn't know.  I was for the most part successful.

My chicken pasta salad was not very popular.  I realized as I loaded the car, that taking something made with mayo on a 90 degree day was probably NOT a wise decision.  Most of it was thrown away.

I guess DR VIXMOM will now have to be known as Mrs. Gotrocks since she is expanding her jewelry collection.

We went to the Tenement Museum on Monday.  It was really fascinating.  There are several tours you can take.  We took the Sweat Shop Tour.  It was kind of hot the day we took the tour, but there were fans, thank goodness.   I would never take the tour when it's in the 90's.   I'd like to go back in the fall or winter for some of the other tours, including one about Irish immigrants.

I’m still mulling over Bathtubs Over Broadway. I think I was more than slightly freaked out at the appearance of Jello Biafra as a noted expert on industrials. Hearing him quote certain songs was strange beyond strange. Biafra was the lead singer of and creative genius behind The Dead Kennedys, one of the greatest punk bands of all time. Holiday in Cambodia remains a classic.

I think the first mosh pit I ever got in was when I saw The DKs in concert. A true highlight of that period. I would never stage dive, and that night showed me why. My friend Bill did a backward stage dive, the crowd split and he landed on his head. He wouldn’t let us take him to the ER until after the concert was over.

I've looked online at various printers, so I have a couple of ideas now - will mosey on over to the bank in about twenty minutes.
Title: Re: FLY INTO JULY
Post by: bk on July 01, 2019, 10:53:35 AM
Bank was quick, went to Staples early, chose what I wanted, purchased, and helper is on her way here now, rather than going to Staples.  Thanks to dear reader George for mentioning the Eco Tank printer - I'd seen one a year ago, but apparently they JUST got in the new models two weeks ago and they've fixed certain things - all I know is goodby $120 ink cartridges every three months.  The bottles that come with this last two years and then replacements are under twenty bucks.
Title: Re: FLY INTO JULY
Post by: bk on July 01, 2019, 10:54:39 AM
So, waiting for helper to arrive and she'll get it all set up.  I did get the four year added warranty because printers have a habit of problems and this enables you to replace the entire cost PLUS tax if anything at all goes awry in the four years - very worth it.

That's great, BK!  I, and I'm sure MANY people, just hate the idea of the very tiny and very expensive ink cartridges.  This should be a game changer in the printer world. ;D

Oh! I meant to ask last night:  Where did you stay in Morgantown? Just curious. I love the place, but that originates with our family history there.

I also really like the drive from Hagerstown on I-70 and I-68, and I marvel to think that our family was making that drive on the old US 40 during the 1950s.

DR ChasSmith, we stayed at a Holiday Inn Express out by the airport.  I navigated us on a little drive through town on our way out and even managed to recognize some things from time I spent there between the mid-1960s and mid-1980s.

I also love the drive between Morgantown and Hagerstown.  Richard and I have now done it 3 times eastbound, but yesterday was our first westbound drive.

One advantage of having an excellent postman is that we can comfortably have all of the mail delivered the day we return.  It helps having nice indoor mail boxes.  If there is too much mail he simply puts it into a larger box for packages & leaves the key in our mailbox.

After getting everything set up with the printer, I then went and picked up one package, my new debit card, and then went to Jerry's and had a lean pastrami sky-high on rye with cole slaw and 1,000 Island dressing - all good.  Robert Yacko texted me and told me he was heading to Jerry's and would I meet him - I told him I was already there - so he came and we had a nice chat.  Then I came home (it was already five by then), got the news that Jenna has to drop out of the August show (she recently had some surgery to do with her sinus and I told her I didn't think she'd be ready by August, but she and her doctor assured me she would - and of course now the doctor changes the tune).  So, I'm madly trying to replace her.

Learned a new verb tonight: Gentle, which means to make gentler. He gentled the wild horse. Very strange. Seems awkward.

That does.  I remember when a former co-worker started using "source" as a verb:  "I have to source these titles." ::) I'm sure that she didn't invent the use, but it's certainly become prevalent in library circles.

And on that note (F-natural), I'm off to my parents' house.  The wireless headphones that I ordered for my dad arrived today, and I'm going over there to hook them up to his TV.  Then, my mom will make me dinner. :)

Be back later.

I'm going to try to get used to that one.  It sounds like it could be soothing.

Imagine the wretched lyrics one could create with it:

I tried to gentle her spirit
With a six-pack of beer, it
wasn't easy.

Sorry.

Now, he doesn't have to turn up the volume so loud that it "shakes the house"...as my mom says.

She made them a little before I got there, so that by the time I ate, they weren't as fresh as they could've been.

So, with all the talk about the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall riots, I can't believe that I didn't remember this earlier.

Now, the time stamp says '93, but I didn't know how to fix that.  These pictures are from December 2001, and the Stonewall pictures are from December 1995.
