Well, you've read the notes, the notes had both life and pizza, and now it is time for you to post until the pizza-eating cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: VERNACULAR!
-
First post after BK.
-
From last night:
I am listening to Larry Kert & the Company Ensemble doing “Being Alive.” I didn’t know there was a recording with Larry Kert.
It wasn't actually a new recording. According to the Cast Albums Database listing (http://castalbums.org/recordings/Company-1970-London-Cast/3691):
Not a true Original London Cast Recording, but a re-release of Company [1970 Original Broadway Cast], with Larry Kert's vocals replacing Dean Jones's. Kert, who replaced Dean Jones on Broadway two weeks after opening, Teri Ralston, Beth Howland, Steve Elmore, Elaine Stritch, and Donna McKechnie all reprised their Broadway roles in London.
Original tracks were recorded on May 3, 1970. Larry Kert's tracks were recorded on November 2, 1970, but weren't released until the London production opened in 1972.
-
I think I'd read that "Barcelona" was actually completely rerecorded, but I'm not positive.
-
I only got about two hours of sleep last night, so I will now say, Good Night!

I didn’t care for Mr. Kert’s “Being Alive.”

I don't remember if I felt one way or the other about it. :-\
-
Good night, Tom.
-
Well, the entering of the info has been completed. It's now time for bed. The actual balancing of the checkbook will happen later.
Have a good day, all!
-
Good morning, all!
-
I got a lot more sleep last night with two Tylenol PM.
-
I had a strange dream about helpiong a new roommate movce into an old NY apartment building - Becki Graham, a Middletown froend of mine and DR Ginny! - and the move was a mess: derelict elevator only running on whim, roaches, and loud party with a lot of Jewish friends. It was quite strange.
-
Then I dreamed I had gone into a Petco to renew my driver;s license, and the bitchy manager lost all of my paperwork.
-
The cats are very frisky this morning. Luckily, they all ate their breakfast.
-
I will leave for physical therapy in around an hour and fifteen minutes.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Pizza for breakfast sounds good.
-
Sleep was not a priority for my body last night.

I agree completely. It sounds too self-congratulatory, too Vegas.

I worked with Larry Kert a couple of times, but he could be difficult. I scored "The Way You Look Tonight" for him for a Kern gala, and I told him, since he was a late addition to the cast, that I wanted to keep the orchestration small, and he said, let's keep it short and sweet.
Well, we got to the dress the afternoon of the gala, and when he heard how short one chorus was, he decided he wanted it longer. I spent the break between rehearsal and performance, adding fixes to provide a repeat. Still, I liked him a lot. By the way, that orchestration was later recorded on PS Classics by Phillip Chaffin.
-
When I met Steve Sondheim for the first time, I was with Gary Miller, who gossiped with Steve about Larry Kert's club act. Steve said something to the effect that Larry was better in cabaret because he liked to flirt with the audience.
-
T.O.D.
I don't really think a lot about pizza.
Occasionally, I get a yen for one and order from my local parlor, usually with chicken, mushrooms and green peppers.
Then, I eat it and go on to other things.

They did re-record Barcelona. I guess it was too difficult to take out Jones’ voice

Good morning to all
-
I live in NY. I have no recollection of a first pizza because I have been eating pizza ever since I grew opposing teeth.
-
The hamlet in which I live is less than 4 miles square. We have at least a dozen pizza places
-
Actually I think it's 15
-
We had pizza for dinner last night
-
And Saturday too
-
Sicilian (thick crust) in Manhattan on Saturday
-
Regular crust at home yesterday
-
Must get to work
-
Happy day all!
-
Good morning, all.
-
From back home where I belong.
-
At least for a while.
-
Yesterday’s drive was quite nice until I hit the inevitable rain in eastern PA. The rest was HELL, thanks to mysterious and indefinable traffic issues plaguing the human race — oh, I’d say from around Hazelton PA to just about ... my driveway. And there is nothing as aggravating and exhausting as all of that.
-
So, being thrust back into real life, or something closely imitating it, I have things to do, errands to run, and music to look at today, followed by a WRECK THE HALLS rehearsal this evening.
-
Loved reading up on the WHAT IF? history.
-
My first pizza would have been from some mid-50s takeout jernt on E. Main St. in the then-new Columbus suburb of Whitehall, Ohio. My dad would occasionally bring home a “pizza pie” which was probably just cheese with no toppings, though I’m guessing it wasn’t too long till we began getting it with pepperoni. Either way, I know we were crazy about it.
Over the years I became introduced to various toppings and various styles, and there are indeed a number of things I like to have on pizza. But the basic pizza for me is pepperoni, no question. Actually, these days, the default for those of us in this household has become pepperoni and garlic. But we’re also major garlic freaks in general.
-
I have a city directory from one of our earlier years in Whitehall. I must see what pizza jernts were listed then.
-
Rehearsal vibes for MR BK & Co.
-
Thunderstorms all day today and temps in the 60's. I'll take it. I put all the house plants outside for about an hour to get some fresh rainwater......
-
I doing so, I got watered myself.
-
I won’t try to go through all my memories pertaining to pizza, but I do remember that my introduction to the Chicago deep dish style was in the late 70s when Numero Uno came to LA. (Is that the correct name? I’m always conflating that with “Uno” — or are those in fact the same thing?) Anyhoo, I believe that first location I knew was on Restaurant Row, or within a block or two of it. Anyone else recall that?
I liked that style for a while but it eventually got old for me. I’m all about the Connecticut style thin crust now. Or a standard New York style, which I think (?) is yer basic thin — as opposed to deep-dish — one. The Connecticut is of a more specific character that’s a little different.
-

I wonder what you’ll sprout, DR Jrand69.
-
I first remember hearing about pizza pie in an interview with Miss Annette Funicello. I could not wrap my head around the idea that a pie could have cheese and meat.....to me "pie" meant sweet.
Then we were visiting my aunt - and she got a pizza from someplace. It was most excellent.
There were a lot of local pizza shops in our small town as I was growing up. We ordered pizzas all the time.
Chef Boy Ar Dee also had a box mix - cheese and pepperoni - which my mom made up for us a lot.
Pizza Hut was our place for awhile....but now I eat Papa John's. It's a bit sweet - but it's a good crust and you can get a lot of different toppings....I like chicken & sausage.....
-
The only place I know of that you could get slices was at the lunch buffet at Pizza Hut - they put out whole pies and you could take a slice or two of what you wanted.
-
Sometimes I eat Jack's or Mama Cozzi's frozen pizza.....after I bake it of course.....
-
The End.
-
The years I lived in Hollywood a slice was a standard 33 cents up and down the Boulevard. I enjoyed sitting down for pizza at McGoo’s a couple of times, but my later all time favorite was the Two Guys From Italy on ... damn it, whichever street, just north of and “behind” the Boulevard.
BK remembers the taste of his first pizza. The one I always remember, and it’s still a benchmark for me, is that Two Guys.
-
The hamlet in which I live is less than 4 miles square. We have at least a dozen pizza places
Do they serve pizza by the slice?
-
I find comparing L.A. to the East Coast shocking.
-
With all our moves my memory says the places that sold pizza by the slice were those that had a lot of foot traffic.
-
TOD:
As a kid, our family always went to Round Table Pizza, but I've noticed that place is crazy expensive now, and not all that great. Mark and I do agree that Dino's and Barone's are both great. We have a Barone's right here in West Lake Villiage, but no Dino's. We also really love Topper's pizza. Mark prefers a thin crispy crust and that's what they have. But usually, we go to one of the build-your-own places, like Mod Pizza or Blaze. I like that I can get as many vegetables as I want without being charged for every extra topping.
-
Welcome home, DR ChasSmith!
-
I am home from therapy and hellbent on finishing this overture today.
-
My oldest cousin, who was born several years before me, married an Italian New Yorker, and they lived in Little Italy. In the mid 1950s, they came to Ohio to visit her parents, and her husband made pizza for the family. I could not tell you now what the toppings were then. Later, a Cassano's pizza chain sprouted all over Southwest Ohio, and this became the go-to place for pizza for some time. It's nothing like New York pizza,. but I sure love it.
-
Let's get to page 3!
-
Bingo!
-
Page 3 Dance!
-
Bruce I am shocked you didn't mention La Barbara's. It was the first pizza I found to be exceptionally good.
-

We enjoyed Numero Uno's very much. After we left L.A. friend's would get pizza from there when we visited. We ate at an Uno's (same chain different names), at least I don't think it included the Numero part of the name, in Pennsylvania. It was good but no where near as good at the original in LA though I believe even that wasn't as good as when it first opened.
-
Other than Skip's homemade pizza, of all places, our high school cafeteria made the most amazing-tasting pizza, and they'd have them packed up in vending machines like an Automat.
Claudio's in our neighborhood is also excellent!
-
I'm up, I'm up - eight-and-a-half hours of sleep.
-
I don't remember La Barbara's pizza. Numero Uno, which is a very specific thing, was great. And in the Bay Cities days, there was a great pizza jernt that Nick Redman's then-wife worked at - Da something, maybe DaVida's - next to the Odyssey record store on Wilshire.
-
The overture is finished, I am quite happy to report. Tomorrow, I will sit down and go through it and make any adjustments. Hopefully on Wednesday I can send it to the conductor.

We started going to La Barbara's in high school. It was fantastic.

Always. ;)

I live in NY. I have no recollection of a first pizza because I have been eating pizza ever since I grew opposing teeth.
Ditto!
-
The earliest pizza place that I can remember going to was Pietro's Pizza when we first moved to Washington. There was a restaurant in Lacey where Fred Meyer is. At the time, there used to be a drive-in theater exactly where Fred Meyer is now, and Pietro's was next to the drive-in.
-
When I was in high school, my friend Andrew and I would play the computer game Jungle Hunt at Pietro's...long before home computer games. That was our game. It was unusual in that you moved from the right to the left as you jumped over logs and alligators and swung from vines to try and save the girl.
-
Back from picking up no packages and a chicken salad sandwich and no fries or onion rings.
-
The cats and I are closing up shop and chilling out with the TV before bed. Good night, everyone!
-
Back to the last of Marlene.
-
Well, I'm leaving work. My niece needs me to restaple some plastic siding onto her chicken protecting gazebo thing. I put up the plastic siding the first time, but I guess I didn't staple it or put it up carefully enough. Spoo!! So, I'll restaple it.
Be back later.
-
The hamlet in which I live is less than 4 miles square. We have at least a dozen pizza places
Do they serve pizza by the slice?
Most of them do. I think only Domino's and Papa John's don't.
-
I just got asked to pick up something for work. So, it's off with the movie and on with the Brahms Symphony No. 4.
-
I didn't get any pizza today. I'm not entirely happy about that.
-
I have had a great deal of runaround these last few days at work. But at least that keeps me employed.
-
And of all the cafeteria facilities we have, including several Wendy's and Subways on site, there is no pizza to be had.
-
That, of course, becomes a problem when you can't leave campus easily to go get a pizza.
-
First world problems.
-
Jane, I'm enjoying Rules of Civility. I don't know where the story is going and just want to read more. I'm about 40% of the way through the book.
-
I've also started listening to Stephen King's latest, The Institute, which is getting creepy. Santino Fontana ("Tootsie" Broadway) is providing a really good reading. This is the second or third book I've heard him read and like it.
-
But what I really want to do is sleep.
-
Which probably will happen soon.
-
But first ...
-
We need to move on ...
-
Four!
-
Vixmom, time for your magic fingers on the keys.
-
Rehearsal is done and went pretty well. Still some lyrics for them to solidify but they will.

Vixmom, time for your magic fingers on the keys.
Not sure how magic they are but I’ll give it a whirl
-
Did I mention that vixdad and I went washer shopping?
-
The first place we went to had a GE machine I liked
-
It was supposedly list price $799 but on sale for $523
-
Since our last washer cost $400 28 years ago I figured that wasn’t bad
-
Then they told us it was $50 for delivery, $200 for installation, and $339 for a 8 year warranty
-
So we went across the street to Home Depot (sorry George) and they had the same machine for $678
-
So I asked if they would price match.
-
The saleswoman said absolutely.
-
They have free delivery and installation and the warranty (5 years) was $139
-
It will be delivered on Thursday
-
It was unusual in that you moved from the right to the left as you jumped over logs and alligators and swung from vines to try and save the girl.
That sounds like the perfect example of a "guy thing" to do.
-
So I asked if they would price match.
You are so good at spreading a story out over many posts. BK must be kvelling with joy for this story!
-

What's to be sorry about? I shop at Home Depot.
-
Okay, it's my sister who really shops there, but I don't have a problem with them.
-
And that's a great deal you got!
-
Congrats!

:D

Yay.
-
Today we began our required yearly testing of the fire alarms.
-
That means we have the pleasure of listening to the fire alarms go off as they are tested.
-
Several were done today.
-
Keith wore ear plugs.
-
I took out my hearing aids and it was still loud.
-
Tomorrow they will finish our building.
-
We might leave if the weather is decent.
-
They also tested the compressor.
-
That might have something to do with the fire sprinklers.
-
All I know is that the test triggers the compressor to work overtime.
-
Overtime and louder according to Keith
-
It annoys him very much.
-
Most of the time I can't hear it.
-
When I can the sound doesn't bother me.
-
So I asked if they would price match.
You are so good at spreading a story out over many posts. BK must be kvelling with joy for this story!
How was that ;)

I know the expression but always wondered what kvelling would look like in real life
-
I’ve never seen kvelling
-
I’ve seen kvetching
-
Good evening.
-
And schlepping
-
I’ve schlepped many a time
-
And kvetched
-
It’s the middle of the night and I think I am suffering from sleep deprivation

Why? What is wrong with them? Perhaps they don’t have vegan pizza?

Hello, George.
-
I got an Ingles top-loading washer and dryer from Best Buy when I moved into my condo 13 years ago. They're still working quite well.
-
I think I paid $600 for the pair, brand new.

Hi, Tom.

Hold tight while I change the topic - or go read the notes and come back.
