Well, you've read the notes, the notes were simple and live, and now it is time for you to post until the simple cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: DEVISE!
-
Nice picture in your notes, BK!
-
Bruce, what chinese jernt did you eat at? I'm always looking for good chinese food.
-
It's called Pho, I think - it's on the corner of Vineland and Burbank Blvd. Very good.
-
Hi, jan!
-
Well, it's time for me to go to sleep. I'm not a morning person, so everything essentially being an hour early makes for a not so easy waking up...but I will wake up and get myself to work like any other day. ;)
Have a good day, all!
-
Good morning, all!
-
I detest these time changes.
-
I have another vague day. I have absolutely no plans.
-
I just checked my calendar. It's completely empty until Thursday, when I have my doctor's appointment and possible lunch with a friend.
-
The cats are strangely quiet this morning. That's worrisome!
-
Good morning, all.
-
I have no desire to get out of bed and head back to reality.
-
Hello, six guests!
-
Nice photo in the notes.
BOOK ordered!
Important envelope vibes for MR BK!
-
I think DEVISE is when you give up all your vises.

I have to do some shopping this morning and then go to Greencastle to pick up my perusal copy of ANYTHING GOES.
I shall also drop off a few scripts to the chairperson of the Program Committee to read for consideration for the 2021 season, if we are not all quarantined by then.

The KC is over. I need to take the recyclables to the basement, dump the dirty litter, and pick up Saturday's mail. I hope my new can opener waits in the lobby.
-
Good morning, all.

Oh my GAWD. Why is the second morning of a time change worse than the first?

Of course I know the answer to that. It's because for most people, a typical Sunday is generally not as challenging a day as most Mondays.
Mondays are merciless.
Which leads me back to my standard musing of: Why in the name of all that's holy, and some that isn't, don't "they" put the time change on Friday night instead of Saturday, thereby giving the populace TWO days in which to adjust before the Monday slam?
-
Someone has told me that when the time changes were implemented, people were still working a six-day work week.
So even if that's how it began, how many damn DECADES does it take to rethink it? (Answer: They don't think about it at all.)
-
Nice picture in the notes. Makes me think how long it's been since I've been to a book fair of any kind. That will have to be rectified one of these days.
-
So what's on my agenda for the day?
Besides taking the trash and recycling down to the road this afternoon, I must needs spend time getting The Drowsy Chaperone into my ears, and then my fingers. It looks like the keyboard book is going to be slow in getting to me, so I'll have to learn it the best I can from this piano-vocal score that fell off the back of a truck. It's the only thing I could find out there on the big bad internet. That, and the cast album CD and a few complete videos on YouTube, shall be my guides.
-
I know I'm out of sync with the rest of the world when it comes to Altman:
IMAGES
THE LONG GOODBYE
SECRET HONOR
TANNER '88
SHORT CUTS
THE PLAYER
PRAIRIE HOME COMPANION
I was fine with MASH back in the day but it doesn't really hold my interest much anymore. I know NASHVILLE is the big thing, but oddly enough I've never sat down and really paid attention and watched it straight through enough to appreciate it. And I don't believe I've ever seen McCABE & MRS. MILLER. Or even 3 WOMEN.
-
DR Elmore, I'm sorry you haven't found the can opener. I hate when that happens, and I know whereof I speak.
It sounds silly, but when I've had a kitchen utensil or other such item for years (assuming it's something that's always worked for me as opposed to being a pain in the ASS), I grow attached to it and absolutely hate it when it goes missing. I actually take some pride in kitchen items I got for my apartments in the '70s and '80s. And yes, a few such things were given to me by my parents back then. So, it's a sentimental thing, but also a quality thing when it's something you picked out as being best for you at the time.....and still is.
-
Oh my. This seems almost unbelievable.
RIP Max von Sydow, 90.
-
He finally lost the chess game.
-
My aunt once said she thought maybe appliances and even medical stuff from decades ago were made to last, but in recent decades, the products were (intentionally) built to eventually wear out so that a new one might be needed.
-
My aunt had been a technical in charge of a department as Coney island Hospital and felt a difference in durability happening over time.
-
BK's book is ordered. This sounds wonderful.
-
Given how your lyrics somehow reflect decades of time and eras and attitudes in the US, is there any chance it might be a valid nominee for certain awards -
-
or are lyrics not eligible as poetry? Larry nommed a show for the theater Pulitzer. If the book is what it sounds like, and knowing the high quality and BK's position in the industry, maybe ti couldn't hurt - maybe submit as commentary if not poetry?

Good morning!
-
He finally lost the chess game.
My thoughts, exactly.
-
I spent many hours watching von Sydow in Bergman’s films. And he was in the marathon viewing I made yesterday. He gave an effectively creepy performance as an obsessed scientist.
-
From Bruce:
I'm not sure about Judy - she friended me at some point.
She graduated with us and Keith knew her from jr. high.
When we were in Manchester she was visiting a half sister about an hour away and met us for lunch and we got to know her better.

Oh my GAWD. Why is the second morning of a time change worse than the first?
Because it is a week day.

Great idea. Or they could stop doing the time change.
-
I am off to get my hearing aid fixed. I hope it can be done in the office without sending it out for repair.
-
My aunt once said she thought maybe appliances and even medical stuff from decades ago were made to last, but in recent decades, the products were (intentionally) built to eventually wear out so that a new one might be needed.
I've known that for years! It's called "built-in obsolescence."

Exactly! There's talk of doing just that...finally.

I am off the Big Ladder with a bit of Fancy Feast to delight three kittens, and I feel as though I haven't stopped running all day.

It is crazy when mid-50Fs weather feels like summer. I just wish that the massive snow piles would melt.

DR ELMORE I highly recommend Robert Duvall in Tender Mercies that includes a turn by Betty Buckley as a crazy country singer....say that however you like......

Washington did vote to leave us on Saving time but I would rather be left on Standard time.
-
DR George, good posting timing on Tender Mercies.

It is crazy when mid-50Fs weather feels like summer. I just wish that the massive snow piles would melt.
And to think we got practically NOTHING all year. A couple of small-to-medium size storms early on, and that's it. Our February has got to have broken some records.

Nice photo in the notes :)

Monday afternoon greetings! It’s a very spring-like day here in SW Ohio. Richard and I went out earlier and ordered new mattresses for the trundle bed frames we inherited from my mom. They’ll be in the bare-bones guest room we’re creating upstairs, just in time for Rob and Mary Linda’s visit in a couple of weeks.

I’m now icing my ankle after today’s PT session.

DR CHAS SMITH I love The Drowsy Chaperone so much - and I am sure it is because I played The Man In The Chair.....but it is so much fun for the players and the audience...... I think MR BK should play this part somewhere.
I believe this is the beginning of "Monkey on A Pedestal"....I am wearing my store bought hair and a bemused expression.

Yes. And relieved it did not have to be sent out to be repaired.

Fun pic DR Jrand :)

Good news DR JANE!
-
The phonograph and books are mine.....the 50 Foot Woman poster is as well.....the director wanted me to bring things from home so I would feel like it was my place.....
-
My screen doors are open for the warm breeze.
-
I started listening to an oddity from the past called The Body in the Seine (mispronounced “sane”). Dreadful.
-
Dreadful lyric of the day: Chacun a son gout/but there never was a gout like you.
-
Like the photo, JRand. I bet that was a fun show to be in.
-
It’s spring break. There’s nobody here this week and they still managed to make this a Monday.
-
It was faboo DR JOHN G and I would do it again in a second.
-
Dreadful lyric of the day: Chacun a son gout/but there never was a gout like you.
"Chacun a son gout" is also Prince Orlofsky's song in Act Two of Die Fledermaus.
-
I'm pondering dinner. Temperatures were in the 60s today.
-
ANYWAY - I drove down to Greencastle today to pick up my perusal copy of Anything Goes.
The theatre street address was on the label, but there is no one at the theatre. Concord Musicals has the MAIL TO address, but sent it to the bill to address.
-
This ain’t Strauss, Elmore.
-
The UPS man was discomboobulated and did not know what to do, so he delivered it to York Pontiac & Kia which is two streets over and about a mile and a half from the theatre.
The mail delivery address is Hammer & Co CPA - Mark Hammer is our treasurer.
-
The Playhouse president who is in Florida until next month was contacted and he asked our VP to go to York Pontiac to pick up the box.
VP Dustin messaged me and told me I could pick it up at his job at Bittles & Hurt Funeral Home this morning.
When I was on my way, he called and said he was out on a call (translation: he had to collect a stiff somewhere), but that Jay, the funeral Director would be there.
I got to Bittles & Hurt and rang the bell (the door was locked), no one answered and it didn't seem polite to yell, so I went around back and I saw Jay running through the parking lot.
I hollered at him and he came back - he was going to change a battery in one of the hearses....
He gave me TWO big boxes.
-
It seems they sent us ALL of our materials, which is okay - but I imagine we will be paying an extra fee for it.
I drove to Taco Bell to meet Sandi, my assistant director. I wanted to leave the Piano/Conductor Score with her to give to our pianist/musical director who lives in town.
-
Great photo, DR Jrand69.
(Valley of the Dolls!). :)
I watched one college video of the show today, and there are a couple of others I'll catch later. I'm not positive, but I thought I saw a bad bootleg from Broadway there as well. One of the nearby theaters here played a nice production of it last fall. The Keyboard 1 part (which might be mostly piano) sounds like fun. I'll be looking forward to this one.
-
All kinds of orchestra parts......and many, many Vocal/Chorus books.....from Tams-Witmark.
I gave Sandi two scores (the other one for our keyboard player) and one of two Prompt scripts.....and worried all of the way home about our performers working with "sides."
When I got home I looked in the bottom of the big box and there were 18 MORE prompt scripts and NO "sides." So we are saved, unless I cast more than 18 people.....
The End.
-
I thought the days of them sending out just "sides" for the actors were behind us. But someone was indeed worrying about that when we were expecting the CABARET materials last fall. Fortunately, it's all complete scripts.
-
I believe that someone on this here site was kind enough to send me an audio recording of the Broadway show....and perhaps video evidence as well......but it is all a bit hazy......
-
Well, I must walk through the woods and go over to the neighbor's house for "early welcoming of spring" cocktails. Or some such. It'll be good. He always grills something good on the barbie and puts out plenty of horse's ovaries...AND usually has a nice Bourbon. What's not to like?
-
Yes DR CHAS SMITH - it is good news tonight.
I had stopped even suggesting Tams shows because of the "sides" - so I'm not sure if this is new with Concord or if Tams had finally gotten the message.
-
Yes DR CHAS SMITH if you look closely all three of Miss Jacqueline Susann's bestsellers are represented.....along with the three Whitman volumes of Annette books.....
-
The Cabaret materials all looked like everything else that's been around a long time, and we figured Tams had corrected that a while back.
-
I started listening to an oddity from the past called The Body in the Seine (mispronounced “sane”). Dreadful.
I actually bought that. I've listened to it...once. ::)
;)

Yes, and it’s our objective to NOT fill it up. We figured 2 empty rooms is a great start to the downsizing we’ll eventually have to do. But we also need someplace for overnight guests, so we going minimalist.

elmore, quite certain you saw Mr. Duvall in a little movie called To Kill a Mockingbird - Boo Radley.
You are quite right, BK! Several times, in fact.
-
elmore, quite certain you saw Mr. Duvall in a little movie called To Kill a Mockingbird - Boo Radley.
I've seen that, too. Add that to my list. :)
-
This little French bulldog was turned into the ACC today as a stray. I want to adopt him!
-
Speaking of To Kill A Mockingbird, a film I've seen several times in the past 50 years and loved nearly as much as the book, I doubt I could name any actor in that cast besides Gregory Peck.
-
DR elmore does Brock Peters come to mind now that I have mentioned his name?
-
Altman:
Gosford Park
Prairie Home Companion
The Company
Popeye
MASH
A Bridge Too Far
I didn't realize he did A Cold Day in the Park.
-
Caan:
Cinderella Liberty
Brian's Song
The Godfather
Funny Lady
Honeymoon in Vegas
-
Duvall:
To Kill a Mockingbird
The Man Who Captured Eichmann
The Great Santini
I think I need to watch Tender Mercies as I don't remember it.
-
I am loving reading all of these lists.
-
Contrary to photographic evidence, I do have a chin and a neck.....
-
Duvall has not a single line of dialogue in To Kill a Mockingbird. He's on the screen less than three minutes, but he does more in those three minutes with less than most actors do in a lifetime. He's brilliant in it. I can name lots of folks in that film: Mary Badham and Phillip Alford as Scout and Jem (and yes, I'm doing this off the top of my head), John Megna as Dill, Brock Peters as Tom Robinson, Colin Wilcox as Mayella (funny how I'm remembering the character names, too, but that's because there's many pages devoted to the musical of Mockingbird that I wrote), Frank Overton as Heck Tate, Alice Ghostly and Rosemary Murphy, Ruth White, the great Paul Fix, William Windom - it was a GREAT cast, perfect, really. And the wonderful opening narration is read by Kim Stanley. One of my all-time favorite films.

Home from a fun hour of dance. It's now gotten a little warm here. The low tonight will be around 60.

Five!

It's drizzling outside, so we can't see the supermoon here in San Antonio.

It's been a very long day. And tomorrow isn't promising much better until the evening, when a friend and I are going to see Emma.
-
So, I think I'm going to call it a day. I'm trying to finish a graphic novel I started the other day. I'm not a great fan of these, but this one, "The Prince and the Dressmaker," is being turned into a musical by the Lopezes (the "Frozen" couple). And it's cute. I can see it better as a musical with plenty of chances for slapstick comedy (the prince of the title is a cross dresser) and even a few tender moments.
-
Good night, all.

I know you have all been waiting with bated breath for this news

Of course you didn't give it a thought, that's very clear. Fine to post it on Facebook whenever you like. I don't announce a new or old book here every twelve minutes - just once a year and you, my friend, can simply lay off that day, how's that. Not hard to understand, and you bet your butt cheeks they don't compete, which isn't really the point. Good form is the point.
-
Finished with my viewing.
-
I have nothing to say. ::)
-
;)
-
Except...before I left for work this morning, I set up my computer to record a play on PBS called Pipeline on my other DVR so that I could make a Blu-ray.
-
HOWEVER, when I recorded from this other DVR (for the first time), the image from the resulting recording was zoomed in AND it didn't record the whole program!
-
I set my computer program to record for two hours, but for some reason it stopped after 58 minutes!
-
:o
-
WTF??
-
I need to talk to my sister's boyfriend to see if he can figure out why this happened.
-
My other DVR had no problem.
-
I need to empty off this DVR because it's about 85% filled right now.
-
:-\
-
It would also help if I took the time to watch programs that I've recorded and not just watch what's on TV when I turn it on.
-
