Well, you've read the notes, the notes had the mysteries of life, and now it is time for you to post until the mysterious cows come home.

Topic of the Day:  in my DVD player:  The Big Lebowski.  I MUST watch it this weekend...because I borrowed from a co-worker and I've had it for much too long!

Yesterday, I received a package in the mail.  In the package was a t-shirt.  Fortunately, I ordered the t-shirt, so that's good.  It has DIVERSITY written on the front, along with a whole bunch of different faces:

The designer is Von Glitschka, and I think we met in elementary school, when my family moved here to Washington state.  We were also friends through middle school and high school.  He was always drawing, and I remember in middle school, he made his own short movie and I was one of the "actors"...or maybe I was a glorified extra.  I can barely remember much about it.  Anyway, he started his own design firm and is also teaching online classes and I guess is really at it!  A couple of weeks ago, I saw that he posted this t-shirt on his Instagram with order information and really liked it, so I ordered it.  I'll wear it to my parents' house today. :)

I have 6 more Abbott & Costello movies in my DVD library that I have yet to watch.  They are:

A&C GO TO MARS
BUCK PRIVATES
HOLD THAT GHOST
JACK AND THE BEANSTALK
KEEP 'EM FLYING
RIDE 'EM COWBOY

Actually, I've seen all of these, but not for decades.

Any suggestion?

I've just received an interesting book by Matthew Hahn:

THE ANIMATED PETER LORRE

If you like Peter Lorre and you're into animation, you should enjoy it.

Would you believe that Peter Lorre or a character representing him (e.g. a duck, a fish, etal) appear in over 700 animated cartoons?

I was interested to go back and review BK's reactions to the film. The endless George Segal stuff -- yes, that's it! Totally agree. One scene of that was enough. Or maybe even too much. If you excised those scenes, or the whole character, there might be just enough on the cutting room floor to get the pacing and the rest of the film in balance.

I was floored by Vivien Leigh. What a stunning woman, and role.

DR DRUXY all of those films are about what you would expect HOWEVER A&C GO TO MARS has one of the funniest sight gags ever between Lou and Mari Blanchard that really makes me laugh every time I see it....

And of course the hilarious drill in BUCK PRIVATES when every one is counting off and the numbers get mixed up and the sergeant says to Lou:

"Are you one?"

And Lou replies feyly: "No, are you?"

Never a fan of the film.

However, one day when they were filming, a friend who worked at Columbia got me onto the set and everybody (Vivien Leigh, Simone Signoret, Lee Marvin, George Seagal, etal) was working that day.  Not only that: watching them film was Spencer Tracy.

Quite a thrill for a young guy who'd just moved to Hollywood a 4-5 months earlier.

DR JANE I didn't mind the kids yelling yesterday.  And I did make a discovery yesterday.

I had been complaining about the little girl down the street screaming at the top of her lungs.....I was blaming the wrong person.

The screamer is the eight year old blond boy who plays basketball very well - I have never seen him miss a shot....but he sure can scream!  LOL.....

While passing behind the condo complex near us we smell and saw smoke.  There was also a book of matches on the stone wall.  Looking over the wall as best he could, through the upper half of the rod iron fence, he figured it was safe enough for us to continue on.

I went to acupuncture today, then stopped for a veggie burger. The two employees remaining at the burger joint were so happy to see a regular! They're starved for social contact. The manager there is a friend and I asked her about the reopening. She said they're waiting for the governor's OK, plus the County of LA, the City of LA, and the City of Santa Monica (they're in Santa Monica, but only by a few blocks) all get involved. It's anything but straightforward. She's very concerned because some people won't wear masks and it puts her in an awkward position.

It's not straightforward at all. They will have reduced seating, of course, and perhaps other regulations. All of the guidance I'd heard has been very general and vague.

As much as I like eating out, I am not anxious to dine in anytime soon. Take-out is fine; I never stopped doing that.

No, her concerns were over the health of the staff and customers. One delivery driver arrived without a mask. She didn't want to give him the order because she felt it might put the recipient at risk. People are very on edge these days and tempers flare.

Our libraries reopen June 15. The stories don’t say if you have to wear a mask, but you do have to have your temperature taken. There will be no browsing, only pickup of reserved items.

I am waiting to hear when my library will re-open. But I really don't want to go inside. So i am hoping that they will do curbside pickup only.

Yep, as of today restaurants can reopen for dine-in service, having to observe certain rules.  I'm thrilled about it and will happily be a guinea pig.  I do think it will take a week or two for all the restaurants to gear up, make their staff aware of the rules, figure out their seating, and the sanitary stuff.

So, in answer to yesterday's TOD, I can say Avenue Q. I loved it. I had avoided the show for no reasons other than the cast album wasn't all that overwhelming and I loathed Book of Mormon. But Avenue Q was exactly what it set out to be. It had purpose, and it handled it with a tone that worked throughout. Plus, those songs worked very well in context. The production in the video was out of some theater in Utah, and it was charming, never dragged. And, yes, I laughed heartily at the "Trump -- for now" lyric at the end.

I think I'm going to watch Avenue Q tonight. I have never seen the show.

From Shakespeare to AVENUE Q?

My dear friend, Larry, I wish I could be there, at your side, when you go in for your surgery.  But please know that you will be in my thoughts and my prayers until you are safely home with us.  Love you, Lar!

Well, this is interesting:  Netflix to put a new spin on L.A.'s classic Egyptian Theatre (https://news.yahoo.com/netflix-put-spin-l-classic-140029345.html).

Just watched the press reel from She Loves Me, which I'd never seen before. I saw the show after it moved to Broadway, the version that BK recorded. Judy's replacement, Diane Frat-something, was just nowhere near as touching or as vocally resplendent, as the video makes clear. But, boy, did I ever like Boyd Gaines, Howard McGillan and Sally Mayes.

I love the latest Broadway production.  Still, it wasn’t as good as the production I directed and also played Mr. Maraczek.

It looks like Seattle’s Cinerama theater may never reopen.

It's fascinating to me that the American Cinematheque was GIFTED the theater by the city - outright gift, no money involved, but now they can sell it and make millions upon millions of dollars as a non-profit.  Well, some of that dough is going in someone's pocket.
