Well, you've read the notes, the notes mused and ruminated on the ball peen hammer, and now it is time for you to post until the hammered cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: PROPINQUITY!
-
Hello.
-
Hello.

'night
-
Good night, Jane.
-
Topic of the Day:
Most used: a screwdriver (ratchet screwdriver with multiple bits)
Second most used: a regular hammer
-
And the word of the day is: PROPINQUITY!
To paraphrase a line by Madeline Kahn from What's Up, Doc?: "Don't you know the meaning of PROPINQUITY?" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3UJ0l3OskHU)
:))

Good morning, all!
-
I'm hoping that our DR ChasSmith will be back with us today from a power-full estate.
-
DR Vixmom, DH Vixdad shows a promising career in politics.
-
I slept rather well. The toothache has returned after a week's absence, and woke me around 3:30. I am not happy since I have neither dental insurance nor a dentist, and God alone knows when the NYU Dental Clinic will reopen.
-
I don't know if I need a filling or if it's one of the symptoms of the nasal polyps I was scheduled to have removed last September. Between the arthritis and pains in my knees and hips, the polyps, my teeth, and the crushed discs in my lower back, my health is killing me.
-
At 5:30 this morning, I woke from the sound of something I did not recognize. It was Thatch, who had grabbed a pack of dried salmon treats and was trying to tear open the bag with teeth and claws. I opened the bag, gave him and Stella a few treats and went bacl tp bed for about 45 minutes.
-
DR JohnG, I have never seen all of the film of On The Town. As soon as I hear the MGM reorchestrations of Bernstein's ballet music I'm forced to turn off the movie.
-
Last night we watched the first two episodes of Wodehouse Playhouse on DR JohnG's recommendation a couple of weeks ago. I laughed a lot.
-
Is everyone sleeping in this morning?
-
Good morning, all.
-
I would prefer a PROPINQUITY rather than an amateur one.
-
I enjoyed DR VIXMOM's run of posts last night.
I guess I am stuck with the leftover pizza from yesterday, but that's okay.

No new and wonderful news, as of yet. This power outage is one of the biggest ever in the state, and progress couldn’t be happening much slower.
Worse, the cell towers are in horrible shape. I’m still getting my only reliable reception strength out on main road.
Other than that, all is well.
-
George Szell has been discussed around these parts lately......I happened to see his NYT obituary a few days ago, because he passed away around the same time as Miss Frances Farmer.....
-
Oddly enough, I think I used to own a ball peen hammer. No idea why.
-

It’s very likely that I never have, either. I remember renting it once back in the earlier days of home video. Maybe I watched it all, maybe I didn’t. I was disappointed with it, to be sure.
I’m thinking that could have been about the time I saw it at Goodspeed. Early 90s?
-
I think I know Debra Paget ONLY from those two Corman films. Which seems strange, considering how big a name she always seemed to me.
-
Yes, DR vixmom’s posts have been a sight for sore eyes. I’m especially pleased that she has thus far avoided the inconvenience of a jury trial.
-
That’s it for me this morning, I guess.
Later!

I only know her from The Ten Commandments.

Glad you’re enjoying the Wodehouse, Elmore.

At least it isn't winter, though a slightly cooler time of the year would be preferable. Do you have water? I don't recall you are on well water that requires power to pump the water.
Thanks for reporting in with your update. Vibes the power returns faster than expected.

Thursday afternoon greetings! We're enjoying having the windows open, since it's a little cooler here and the humidity has dropped. It won't last, but it's nice for now.
-
I have to get my desk cleaned up and work on things for all 3 organizations that are planning 2020-21 program years that will probably be either a) virtual, or b) cancelled. I guess it's better to make plans and then cancel the events than to throw something together at the last minute. And our program books all include member directories, so we can call, email, and send each other cards from our continuing quarantine.
-
...and now our governor has tested positive for COVID-19...
-
Last night DR Vixmom was debating having a haircut. Mine has not been cut since February 20 and is longer than Richard has ever seen it. It doesn't look any worse than a lot of the women I see on TV.
-

I am at least able to trim my bangs. I need to hold my right arm up with my left arm in able to do it. I only take a little off at a time.
-
It is 61 degrees out right now. The rain has eased up to a drizzle.
-
...and now our governor has tested positive for COVID-19...
Saw that. Scary.
-
I heard he was asymptomatic.
-
I'm up, I'm up - nine hours of sleep with REALLY weird dreams.
-
So at work now, everyone has to wear a mask unless a person is in a room by him/herself, but once someone else enters that room, the person has to put on a mask. Since I'm in a separate office with three other people, we hadn't been wearing masks even when more than one person was in here because it wasn't required at the time, but it is now. That's fine.
-
HOWEVER, the worst part about wearing a mask for such a long time is when I'm drinking my diet Pepsi (I can remove my mask to drink, of course) and I burp, and the burp goes right into my eyeballs! :o I HATE it when that happens!
;)
-
I wear a mask when I look in the mirror so I don't infect myself - why throw caution to the wind. For that matter, why throw wind to the caution.
-
Picked up stuff from the mail place, came home, made faux chicken stroganoff and eating it now.
-
Tomorrow is lawn mowing day.
-
I am looking at old photos of myself.
I obviously didn't have a mirror in my house.

Two days ago I sent the NYC Animal Care Centers an inquiry about Annabelle. When I adopted her in Sept. 2017, her adoption papers from K9Kastle included the NYC ACC sheet on her. It had a photo, her intake number A1126007, and an age: 1 year old. Her vet Dr Mohr later said she was younger, probably between 6 and 10 months old. It's impossible to access information on an animal on the NYCACC.org site once it's rescued or euthanized, so my inquiry was about how she ended up at the Manhattan ACC and what they could tell me about her examination and assessment. Yesterday I got this nice email from one Robin Akus:
Annabelle was in our old system from 2017. She came in on 9/19/17 and then was sent to K9Kastle on 9/24 so we did not have here here very long. She was found as a stray in the Bronx and a lost/ found search did not yield an owner. Her life previously may have been that of a community cat in the area, there are many outdoor cat communities that people care for in the city.
I have two behavior and enrichment notes from the time but that is about it before she left our care. She seemed to be very sweet from the beginning. Hope this helps.
09/20/17
Lying in litterbox with a relaxed body, ears forward. She vocalizes softly when spoken to and stands up to come forward and greet my hand with a head-butt. Allows petting along her head and body while leaning in with a raised tail. At front of kennel vocalizing and watching me after interaction has ended. Social kitty, doing well!
9/22/2017
KNOWN HISTORY:
Annabelle was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:
BARH. Allows all handling.
EVALUATION:
Cage Condition: Cage is slightly re-arranged
Reaction to assessor: Annabelle was relaxed, social and meowing loudly near the front of the kennel.
Reaction when softly spoken to: Annabelle rubs her cheeks up against the cage door and reaches out towards the assessor with soft paws.
Reaction to cage door opening: Annabelle is calm and relaxed.
Reaction to touch: Annabelle purrs softly as she brushes up against the assessor's arm. She gives head butts, allows petting all over and is incredibly affectionate.
Reaction to being picked up: Annabelle was a bit tense when picked up but allowed all handling.
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Lively
VOCAL: Somewhat chatty
CHARACTER TYPE: Affectionate, Social, Sweet
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Beginner
Annabelle interacts with the Assessor, solicits attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. No known history of behavioral problems. This cat can go to a beginner home.
-
Hello, everyone.
-
Larry, I'm glad you got the information you were looking for on Annabelle.
-
And the word of the day is: PROPINQUITY!
Propinquity used to be a little shop on Santa Monica Blvd, right near the Troubadour. It had interesting housewears and gift items.
-
TOD:
Needle-nose pliers. They come in handy for so many things, including getting certain safety caps open. Couldn't be without them.
-
Vibes to Chas, his housemates, and neighbors.
-
Vibes to Larry for all manner of things.
There are a number of dentists here who advertise (well, pre-Covid) for new patients and offering great specials. Given how much business dentists have lost I suspect you could approach one of them and perhaps negotiate.
-
If you haven't looked into Medicare Advantage plans, I would definitely recommend you do so. You might be able to keep your doctors. I save so much money with mine. I have complaints about the medical side of things, but the insurance side has been great. I'm with UnitedHealthCare now, but even the previous plan was decent.
-

I agree that it's better to make plans, then cancel, than to not plan at all. A situation all too familiar these last several months.

I obviously didn't have a mirror in my house.

Jane, sorry to hear about your gut issues. Do you know about glutamine and DGL? They have worked wonders with my issues in the past.
-
TTFN.

;D Drink water instead. It is better for you.

There is a Salmonella Outbreak from onions. If you recently purchased any I suggest making sure they are ok.
-
The Washington State walla walla onions we purchased today are ok.

Yup thanks, tried and didn't work.
-
DR Jeanne I have learned a lot over the years. At one point I basically ate basmati for a year without being able to take nutritional supplements of any kind. I hate that I am eating more basmati these days but at least I am getting healthy food down me.

Time for me to leave work.
Be back later.

His retest came back negative and there are those who say he used the positive result to avoid having to meet the president in Cleveland today.

In other news, the American Library Association has announced that the midwinter conference, scheduled for January in Indianapolis, will now be virtual.

Very sad news. He was also in My Dinner at Albertine's, a weird attempt not to musicalize Proust.
-
Stressful day today at work. But the interviews are done and we sent on our recommendations.
-
I'm wondering if some strings are being pulled behind the scenes about a candidate we did not recommend.
-
But that's beyond my pay grade.
-
this evening, Mom and I had leftover Chinese food from last night. And there was still enough left over for another meal.
-
I guess I bought a lot last night. :)
-
I also managed a trip to the grocery, which was not like my supermarket back home. It's very strange when you take certain products for granted, such as frozen rhubarb or pie cherries, and not be able to find them. that's now two groceries here without pie cherries.
-
Somebody out there must be eating a lot of cherry pie.

Had a short talk with Carol this evening. She's still in a lot of pain, and the painkillers they gave her affected her digestion. So, everything is sort of out of whack. She gets transferred to a rehab center tomorrow. It's in the same facility, so the move won't be overly strenuous.
-
I would hate that. When I'm in the hospital, I largely want to be left alone to rest.
-
Nothing on TV tonight seemed appealing.
-
Except Jeopardy, of course.
-
I did not get the final question.
-
But that's life.
-
I'm going to go to bed soon.
-
But only after we change pages.
-
One more post ...

Four!

Hello, 1 guest!
-
Good night, all.

When I lived alone I had a had drill, a ball peen hammer, a regular hammer and a screwdriver with interchangeable heads
-

Interesting theory as I have only heard of false negatives, not false positives.

Stressful day today at work. But the interviews are done and we sent on our recommendations.
Did you time your trip to be settled in before these interviews or just get lucky?
-
Gratuitous Post #100!

It sounds good, and easy.

Hi George.
-
Finished with my viewing.
-
With my viewing I'm finished.
-
Listening to Morton Gould music.
-
I mostly use screw drivers. I used a hammer more often before breaking my shoulder. We had a light weight one I think got lost in the move. Once in awhile I use a wrench.
-
Mostly I just fetch what Keith needs and hand it to him.

'night

I like Morton Gould.

I Mostly Use Screwdrivers - that's the title of my next novel.

I'm not quite understanding page four.

That was probably the first recording that I had with Kelli O'Hara. She was in Sweet Smell of Success the year before, but I think that I didn't get that one right away.
-
The video editing software that my sister's boyfriend recommended is called VideoReDo (https://www.videoredo.com/en/index.htm).
-
Hi, Tom.
Hello, George.
-
I've been using it and really like that it's fairly easy to use.
-
We could just say “hello” back in forth for ten minutes.
-
The program automatically checked for an update, and there is a new version available.
-
We could just say “hello” back in forth for ten minutes.
Or sing a socially distanced version of "Please, Hello (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8WiudDlTBw)" from Pacific Overtures! :D

I love that score! The complete original Broadway production was filmed for Japanese television (but never released in the US) and the whole show is available on YouTube HERE (https://youtu.be/MQ546PASgHI)!
-
I think I will pass.
-
Anyway, getting back to VideoReDo, I upgraded to version 6 (at a discount, so that was good) and already there are a couple of new options that make it better than the version 5 that I have!

That's okay.

I hate to sound dumb, but you use this before you transfer it to a DVD?
-
I gotta tell you.

It's not a dumb question. Yes. I record from my DVR to my computer with a video capture program (I forget the name right now), then use VideoReDo to edit out commercials and the beginnings and endings of the recordings, then that saves it to a file format that can be used by Nero to burn onto discs (DVD or Blu-ray).
