Well, you've read the notes, the notes answered why animals love opera, and now it is time for you to post until the animal-loving-opera cows come home.

And the word of the day is: NASCENT!

To continue from last night...I also ordered and had already received The Broadway Melody (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00004TVUD/) (1929), Broadway Melody Of 1936 (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B085RRNY6P/) and Broadway Melody of 1940 (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IBKXQVG/).

I don't know why I ordered them, but I did...and I'm glad. ;D

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Happy Birthday, Dear Lurker Iris !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
I'll just bet there's no toilet scene in Manon Lescaut.
-
The cats pestered me all day yesterday to play in the snow. Annabelle kept singing:
On the sidewalk we can build a snow cat
Lookin' like a lion in the zoo;
Does it bite? they ask, and we'll say no, cat,
This chilly chum's a member of our crew!
Watch the snow piling higher, wish this dump had a fire
Where Thatch and I play with Stella all day
Happy in our winter wonderland!

I'll just bet there's no toilet scene in Manon Lescaut.
A chamber pot scene, perhaps.

Happy HHW Birthday, DR Dear Lurker Iris!

I have to make a piano reduction of the Oh, Boy! overture. I'd like to finish that this week so I can spend next week on my 2020 taxes.

I believe Danbury drew the short straw this time. Or is it the long one? It's looking like we got the most snow in Connecticut, at 19 inches.

I'm getting my snow work clothes on now, and I think it's going to be a hellish cleanup. See y'all later.

Happy Birthday, Dear Lurker Iris!
-
Well - I am also to blame for the delay in getting my vaccine. The closest place is quite a drive away. So when it first started, I asked my brother if we could go get ours together.
He said yes.....he would drive.... A bit later he told me we were going to wait until his wife was eligible. I kind of felt obligated by then since it was a plan already....and I didn't want to make the drive by myself.
So I could go by myself - but there you are.

I am concerned about you driving in a car with four other people, especially if the windows are not down. I recently read the air should NOT be turned on, and the windows needs to be cracked at least some.

Happy birthday, DR Lurker Iris!

So the town averaged 19 inches and it looked like we have 12-14 on this property.
It's a heavy snow, and it took the plow guy about three times as long as it normally does to move the snow off of this driveway. (Which by the way, I paced out the other day, and the distance from street to house is some 650-700 feet. And we have a large turnaround area at the garage. But I digress!) So even where it was downhill, he had to plow, say, ten feet at a time, push that much off to the side, back up for another start, do another ten feet, etc.
Did a little shoveling, a lot of snowblowing, and I look forward to sitting on my ASS the rest of the day.
I know you were all waiting anxiously to hear all of that, and I am happy to oblige.
-
Thank you, Chas!
Stay safe and warm out there!
We only received 7 inches.
More forecast for Sunday.

Our younger son is a teacher in Maryland. His school district, one of the hardest his areas in Maryland, is offering vaccinations. There are a limited number each week and they are only booking one day a week, for a week at a time.

DR Elmore, I’m living in Maryland to take care of my elderly mom.
I was spending 2 weeks each month in New York at my part time condo on 66th and Broadway, The Phillips Club. They closed down for a long time when the pandemic hit, and I’ve not been able to get back. Hopefully, one day.

Jane, I’m hoping that Maryland will obtain more vaccines now that Biden is in office.
I spend hours online every day trying to get an appointment, but no luck so far.

When I asked good friends in Kentucky if they had been vaccinated this was part of the response:
"We have both House and Senate GOP here in KY. They have pillared
our gov. Democrat, complete with militia-types at the Capital over his virus rules, mask wearing etc.
They even had a hanging on the gov. mansion's house lawn for effect, in May.
BUT when it came to getting the shots....they were first in line with their families, etc.
even when we have a shortage of vaccines coming in. I know you are shocked. shocked!!!
My friend who works at the Legislative office in Frankfort says NONE of the workers have
been given the shots even though they must work with politicians who won't wear masks.
OH, And all the judges got them too even though we only have virtual court hearings."
-
Our friends have not been vaccinated though they are older, and both have medical issues that put them at risk should they get the virus.
-
Dear Lurker Iris do you mind saying here where in Maryland you are?

Best laid plans.... are the plans you shouldn't bother to make, because they just aren't going to go that way. I did get my name put on a list at Kaiser to be "cold called" if they have any extra COVID vaccines left over at the end of the day, so we'll see what happens with that.

Jane, I live in Baltimore County.
We’ve been told that vaccines are now available at certain Safeway, Giant and RiteAid locations, but when one goes online to book an appointment, the message is always the same: No vaccinations available at this time. BK, when I was rambling on about Russian operas, I forgot one I think you would really like, since I know you like the Borodin string quartets. It's his epic opera Prince Igor, the source of the beautiful Polovtsian Dances and bits of the score to Kismet.
I love this recording, which is now out of print, but it should be readily available through various and sundry outlets.

Pennsylvania’s Punxsutawney Phil is stupid. It really only has a 35-40% accuracy, but if they say there'll be an early spring when it's sunny out (meaning, reverse the "legend"), then it would have a 60-65% accuracy. ::)

Jane, has your son been teaching remotely, or in person?
Is he in Montgomery County?
Teachers are very high priority.
My daughter is a teacher in New York, and is scheduled for her second dose in 2 weeks.
-
He lives in Montgomery County but teaches in Prince George's. He should get his vaccination at a designated school in PG county.
Yes, he is teaching remotely and desperately wants back in the classroom. I think it is wonderful your daughter is almost ready for her second dose. I was disappointed Washington dropped teachers down a phase, especially as schools open back up.
-
I love Prince George’s....attended University of Maryland.
It’s MUCH nicer than Baltimore!
Lots of parks and nature paths there.
-
I’ve also lived in Montgomery County...Silver Spring and Bethesda.
Beautiful area.
-
He is in Silver Spring. When this pandemic is over he will likely move from his apartment & out of the area. We like visiting there. I did a four year study at the NIH. While I didn't see much of Bethesda I liked what I saw.
-
Hello, everyone.
-
Happy Birthday to Dear Lurker Iris.
-
I have been looking into personal air purifiers, specifically the ones you wear like a necklace. For certain medical appointments I need to use public transportation and I am simply not comfortable with that. They can also be used to clean the air in your car. The ones on Amazon range in price from $39 to $200, but I'm thinking one of the lower-cost models will be sufficient.
-
Jeanne the article I read suggested sitting in the back right passenger seat with the window down, or partially down. The driver's window should be the same. This should give you the best ventilation. Oh, and you are better off in the back than in the front as the germs move forward.
DO NOT let the driver turn the AC on.
-
Bruce once the pandemic is over, what are you most looking forward to getting back to?
-
This is a hard question for me as all I want is to see my children, and of course grandchild.
-
I stopped at the little mom&pop pharmacy today. I was pleased to see the door open. They've been keeping it closed and locked since Covid. I understand their need to stay safe, but shopping is ever so much easier when you can go into the store! You used to have to knock, then an employee would come to the door and you'd tell them what you need and hand them your credit card.
I wonder if this change has to do with revised LA County guidelines or just greater confidence.
-
I don't really look forward to getting back to anything until we have seen them.
-
I would like to visit with friends while sitting down to a relaxing dinner.
-
I asked Keith the question and we had a longer discussion on all of the things we might not want to do again.
-
I also stopped at the Italian restaurant with the great bargain lunches. Their outdoor tables were back and they had a number of customers for sit-down dining (vs take-out). Personally, I am not quite ready to do so, but I'm really pleased to see outdoor dining reopen. I will celebrate eating in a restaurant again.
-

Was this the article in the NYTimes a few weeks ago? If I recall correctly, it said that the window near the passenger seat in front should be at least partially down as well as the window on the left in the back.
My gripe is with the drivers who don't wear masks or who wear them around their neck.
-
I suspect that even after Covid many of us will think twice about doing a lot of things. I plan to always have masks on hand, as well as disposable gloves. I will continue to disinfect my phone and computer daily. I hope to always have help available with groceries. I'm sure many other things will be added to the list.
-
DR Elmore, I enjoyed your lyrics.

Hmm, possibly. I don't remember. Oh my, I seem to have reversed the window order.
“The most surprising finding was that if one occupant could potentially infect the other, opening the window next to you might not necessarily be the best option,” Mathai says. “Instead, open windows that are farthest from you. This may allow for cross-ventilation in the cabin.”
Mathai explains car air ventilation flows from the back to the front window."
-
Thanks for the correction.

I would be very angry with a driver for not masking correctly. I am sorry you have to deal with out. Is there anyway to stipulated a masked driving when ordering the car?

Topic of the Day: volunteering for, going to see, and participating in THEATER!! :D
-
Visiting friends? Sure. Going to movies? Of course. Seeing family? That hasn't stopped. But the whole theatrical experience has been what I've been doing since college.
-
I've been reading about the Signature Theater production of Simply Sondheim. Sounds good, but I'm not sure I want to spend $35 to watch it. But I would spend that for a live theatrical production.
-
Watching a shaggy dog documentary called Becoming Leslie about the self-titled mayor of Austin, a thong-wearing, cross-dressing homeless guy known throughout the city. Some of it is funny and charming, but there are truly harrowing stories.

I am looking for a first birthday gift, something the kid already doesn't have. I had thought a good push toy, however, tonight we received a video of a very happy girl pushing something similar.
Originally we wanted to get her a giant stuffed bear, however, Bryan says they don't have room for one.
I have moved on to a baby doll which doesn't excite Keith at all ;D
-
Jane, looking forward to directing people in person and eating lunch in a restaurant.
-
That sounds nice.
-
Gifts order to arrive in time.
-
Hopefully as delivery from any service is no longer trustworthy.
-
I planned to three items from Amazon when I realized one item wouldn't be delivered until March.
-
I checked out the Signature Theatre thing. It's $35, and you only get to watch it for 72 hours before you'll have to buy another ticket.
It's almost worth it to hear David Loud's vocal arrangements - always something special in the put-togethers.
-
The 3rd item has now been ordered from Target.
-
Still thinking about DR elmore3003 and cousin John's family.
-
Good night, everyone.
-
Larry, my sincere condolences on the loss of your cousin, John
-
Looking forward to hugging people.

Finished with my viewing.
-
Forgot to mention that I watched the Met Porgy and Bess last night - I didn't care for the production much and liked the Bess a lot and Porgy not so much. I thought the Sportin' Life was too today and not any fun at all - the Crown was good and so were others, but it was slow, which is always the problem. If you listen to the CD we put out, those tempos are really brisk and the production is paced just that way.

I needed to give my eyes a break from all electronic devises for a while. Been reading Michael Riedel’s Singular Sensation:The Triumph of Broadway.
