Title: A PLETHORA OF ANNOUNCEMENTS
Post by: bk on May 24, 2021, 12:05:55 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes were a plethora of notes and had some announcements, and now it is time for you to post until the announced cows come home.

Last night I watched James Whale's interesting version of H.G. Wells' The Invisible Man. I spent much of the movie wondering how the "invisible" effects were achieved. Movies were more fun before CGI. I especially loved the ever-subtle Una O'Connor as the bossy wife of the pub owner.

When the film was over around 7:30, I decided to go to bed an hour earlier than usual, brushed the cats, and turned off the lights. I slept quite well with visits from Thatch and Stella.

I bought that trunk in 2008, so I'm hoping I can find the manufacturer online, contact them, and see if theu can get me another key.

Sadly, all I will find are a few blankets and a small quilt my sister-in-law Jo made for me.

I'm wondering if it's similar to the kind of trunk our parents bought us to take to that first college dorm. I know I had one, and I wonder how long it lasted and what finally happened to it. I have no memory of it beyond that first year.

We were very fortunate yesterday afternoon to have that heat start to break -- and we didn't even have to suffer through a storm to get it. It sprinkled for a few minutes, but the rain clouds were few and far between. But the north winds blew in and it was heavenly.

Yours is probably better than those. I'm thinking:  Sears, maybe?  in the 1960s.

It looks like this with wheels. It looked like a Rhino trunk, so I called them. The young lady I spoke to said their trunks do not come with locks.  The one pictured here is from Red Barrel. All I remember from 2008 now id that I ordered the smaller of two choices, and it took about a week to ship from the West Coast (?).

I did.  There was nothing. I've been thinking, what if the company folded during the quarantine last year? That might explain why I cannot find the company online. I think I will try to break in with a screwdriver.

I mispoke. It’s a CT scan and they really don’t like paying for them. I had to pay $800 for the one they used in the ER in Louisville in December.

Really!  On the other side of the gym there was a row of treadmills with only a few people.

I put my mask on but was too annoyed to stay there.  I moved to the opposite end of the row with only Keith behind me on his cross trainer.

Unbeknownst to me, someone then decided, even though Keith was the only person in a row of cross trainers, that they needed to use the one right next to Keith.

Last night I watched James Whale's interesting version of H.G. Wells' The Invisible Man. I spent much of the movie wondering how the "invisible" effects were achieved. Movies were more fun before CGI.

I concur. I was watching THE CIRCUS the other day and was very impressed at the effects used in 1928.

The Chaplin version of the Circus? I love that movie.

Back from another meal at the Smokehouse, this time with Marshall - the special today was the small prime rib - excellent - just that and veggies, no salad. Marshall ordered the small order of garlic cheese bread, and I looked it up online - 25 grams of carbs for one slice, which I figured I could do - but instead I just at the top portion of one slick, and left most of the bread. It was great and I certainly saved twelve grams of carbs and the rest of the meal had almost zero.

I've already watched Tonight's the Night, Revenge, and episode one of Outside the Box - it all looks great but the sound on the videos themselves seems to be way too low compared to the menu sound. I had to turn up my receiver a lot to get to the normal level that most stuff plays at on my receiver. So, I'll go back to the menu when I'm done, turn down the receiver until it's semi back to where it was (on this receiver there's no way to be exact) and then I'll tell them to match all sound to the menu sound.

Someone stole my credit card number and made some charges. At Panera. Three times. If you're going to steal my card number, why would you eat at that place? I won't eat there. That should have been the first clue to the credit card company that the charges weren't mine.

LOL about Panera.  I gather your card has been cancelled and you should receive a new one super fast.

I like the cookies and muffins at Panera, at least I did.  It has been several years since I have been there.

Many years ago American Express used artificial inteligence to look for spending patterns and thus detect fraud. I don't know if any of the other companies try to do that or not. They may just lump all restaurant meals together. If they were smart they'd say, "Not exotic enough for John G."

That's too bad, John.  My WORK credit card was compromised at the beginning of this year, and they also bought something at a Panera, but one in Florida.  At least, they only spent $2.09 there.  I assume that it was a test purchase.  HOWEVER, they also spent $2400 at a perfume store!! :o WTF??

I can't. They put unwelcome carbs in everything. The last time I went there, I ordered a steak salad without the dressing. They didn't tell me that they won't do that, so they handed me a salad slathered in the nasty stuff, something supposedly with raspberries in it, but it looked more like red goo, like Big Red syrup maybe. I explained I was not eating carbs and would not eat what they served me because it wasn't what I asked for. That didn't go over well at a bread and dessert place. But at least they did give me my money back.

I think the total of four purchases was less than $80, but nothing like $2,400 of stink.

Back from Ralph's. Since tonight's dinner was actually not so bad calorie-wise, I decided to have an evening snack. I was going to do salami and cheese, but I always end up eating more than I'd planned. So, I had this net zero carb pizza thing, you know just the bottom - have no idea what it's made out of - so I put some Prego pizza sauce and some mozzarella on it along with a handful of pepperoni slices. I put it in the oven and took it out when it seemed ready, but I really should have given it an extra five minutes. Still, the first few bites were quite good, but in the end the dough needed to be a little crisper. I only made half of it (not too many calories) so whenever I get around to the other half I'll let it cook just a bit longer. But it surprised me that the sauce was pretty good and the cheese melted just right.

Keith suggested I use the very end treadmill to avoid having anyone behind me.  There was one other person in the row, two treadmills away, so I snagged the end one.  All was good for about 5 minutes when this guy decides he needs the middle spot to jog maskless.

Why didn’t you ask him to either put on his mask, or change machines?

Several years ago we had a robbery at the local Wal Mart.  They shot and killed the Brinks’ guard and stole the money bag.  Later we learned after the robbery of several thousand dollars, the robbers and their molls (girlfriends) went out to dinner at the Red Lobster to celebrate!
