Well, you've read the notes, the notes were sappy, had some Cole, and had some photos, and now it is time for you to post until the sappy cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: DIDACTIC!
-
Great headshots, BK! Are you going to update your HHW avatar to one of those?
-
That's so cool about the two new Kritzerland releases! They have been ordered!
-
And in your notes, what do you mean by, "...and the songs are, of course, diving."
-
Well, I must be off. I have no plans today, so I'll probably just ketchup on some TV watching.
Have a good day, all!
-
And in your notes, what do you mean by, "...and the songs are, of course, diving."
I have NO idea what you're talking about :)
-
Goof Good morning, friends.
-
Maybe bk meant to type divan. As in chicken divan.
-
I am thrilled about the new Kritzerland releases.
-
Thanks for the Piazzolla link, DR John G. It's really fun! I heard a few refences to The Four Seasons. Couldn't tell you which movement(s).

This poem was written by poet Dana Gioia upon the death of his infant son from SIDS,
Out of pain can come great beauty,
Prayer
BY DANA GIOIA
Echo of the clocktower, footstep
in the alleyway, sweep
of the wind sifting the leaves.
Jeweller of the spiderweb, connoisseur
of autumn's opulence, blade of lightning
harvesting the sky.
Keeper of the small gate, choreographer
of entrances and exits, midnight
whisper traveling the wires.
Seducer, healer, deity or thief,
I will see you soon enough—
in the shadow of the rainfall,
in the brief violet darkening a sunset—
but until then I pray watch over him
as a mountain guards its covert ore
and the harsh falcon its flightless young.
-
Good morning, all!
-
Good morning
-
I came here last night to post but fell asleep
-
Thank you all for the vibes
-
They seem to be working

I am very sad this morning to learn of the death of my friend, Karla Burns. I met her in 1984, working on John McGlinn's "Songs of New York" recording. I had seen her earlier in the Houston Grand Opera production of Show Boat, for which she was nominated for a Tony. She didn't win, but she did win the Olivier Award in London for playing the same role in the Opera North production. Now, she and my friend Bruce Hubbard, her Joe in those productions, are together again. Before Bruce's death, we had talked about a pops concert act for the two of them as Paul Robeson and Hattie McDaniel.
I last saw her in Chicago, 2004, when I dragged her into a concert reading of Eubie Blake's show Tan Manhattan to do the comic soubrette role and sing several comedy numbers filled with double-entendre lyrics. She was brilliant.
She called me a couple of years ago and we talked for about an hour. I knew she was living in Wichita and performing there, and we swore we would worktogether again soon. I wish!

Vibes and prayers to our TCB

I am sorry for the loss of your friend, Elmore. Sending you hugs

Back from an early morning grocery run.
-
Think I had better get my walk in soon; it's already 78 degrees out.
-
I have to sing in church tomorrow for my gig. It's supposed to be in the upper 90s, and the church is not air-conditioned. Pray for Rosemary's baby.
-
Sorry for your loss, DR elmore3003.
-
I like bk's head shots very much.
-
Here's Karla's recording of "Hey, Feller!" which was put back into the score for the Houston Grand Opera. Dhe was so wonderful!

TWO!!
-
Thanks for sharing Karla's performance, DR elmore3003.
-
I haz been stimulated by the U.S. Government! By mail.
Which is weird, because I am married filing jointly, and the DH's stimulus arrived 2 months ago via direct deposit.
But I am not complaining.
I am going to purchase an electric standing desk.
-
Good morning, all.
-
I'm sorry to hear of the death of Karla Burns. I saw the notice of it last night and immediately wondered to what extent our DR Elmore knew and worked with her in addition to the McGlinn years. RIP, good lady.
-
Head shots are great. We should all do so well!
-
And a fine pair of CD announcements. I shall be placing an order forthwith and posthaste.
-
Take care, and return to us soon, DR TCB.

I have already filed a Paypal dispute.

INSANE dreams these last few nights. I haven't been reporting them and now they're mostly faded. The funny thing about the ones I woke up from yesterday morning is that they were gone the minute I awoke -- but the sensation was that I had just run the dream marathon and that it had been an active, noisy batch of...whatever. Hell, maybe I don't want to know.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Mega vibes for Tom.
-
Head shots are great. We should all do so well!
I agree.
-
Very sorry for your loss, Elmore. Karla Burns’s rendition of Hey, Feller I first heard on a Jerome Kern Revisited album. It was pure joy.

Two days ago I received $1228.00 deom the IRS! I have no idea why.

I was at that session. I didn't know her then, but she John McGlinn, Kate (who played Magnolia in the "Misery's Come Round" number), and a small chorus of black singers from the SHOWBOAT production came in to record those two numbers. Karla was a fireball. I think it was a year later that we recorded "Songs opf New York,: and she sang "Harlem on my Mind" and "Suppertime."
-
And, yes, the headshots are terrific!
-
Sing for your sauna …
You've got it, DR John G.
-
Back from a walk. The parts in the shade with a light breeze were heavenly. Glad I got it in early. It's supposed to be close to 100 later.
-
Listening to a very young Blossom Dearie singing Rodgers and Hart's Everything I've Got.

Just this minute I was thinking of Harlem on My Mind. Someone in my audiobook mentioned Josephine Baker. Weird coincidence.
-
Did I mention I'm really excited about the two new Kritzerland releases?? They deserve to sell really well.
-
Saturday afternoon greetings! Not sure where my morning went, but here I am...
-
DR Elmore, I'm so sorry to hear about your friend Karla.
-
I'm up, I'm up - almost eight hours of sleep.
-
Sorry to hear about Karla Burns.

Nice amount of orders this morning for The Sap of Life. Not so nice for Cole Porter III, which kind of baffles me given it's cast. Need more, however, so hopefully more will come in. Depends when people see the announcement.
-
CD ordered.....I could only get one....but being from Indiana, my choice was obvious.
-
MR BK is number 111111 with us here at HHW.
-
Lots of interesting posts with links and info today....music and poetry and remembrances. A lovely Saturday.

I shall now be on my way to rehearsal.

Remember my theatrical motto: Dignity - always....dignity.

Oh my.
DRs Jrand70 and John G. both got crowns!
Exactly.
-
Murder has arrived!
-
This morning, when I made the bed, I somehow managed, when I pulled the bed post to push it back into place, to either pull or tear the muscle in my left elbow. I can barely use my arm, and I'n left-handed! The pain is killing me.
-
YES MR BK, I received my book. And I am happy to say I have read the first chapter and I am very very pleased and hope to continued the reading fest tomorrow.
-
Rodgers and Hart & Le Colombe arrived in Indiana today.
-
I keep forgetting to order La Colombe!
-
Alexa’s Broadway station just played a song from Moulin Rouge. It was an ADHD nightmare.
-
Vacuumed a small area today. I really hate doing that.
-
DRs Jrand70 and John G. both got crowns!
;D
-
I weed-whacked a large area today. It's been overdue for the past few weeks.
So the motivation just now? Clearing the path to be able to walk over to the neighbor's house for grilled foodstuffs and good drinks on his beautiful deck.
-
I checked the mailbox, and there was neither hide nor hair of THE SAP or Cole Porter.
-
And that's my report for the day. Just trying to keep you all up to date on things.
-
In that same spirit, I'm just letting you all know that I've just arisen from a refreshing nap.
-
I'm now going to watch the Great Performances special on PBS about Ormandy and the Philadelphians and their Beethoven trip to China in the 1970s.
-
Alexa’s Broadway station just played a song from Moulin Rouge. It was an ADHD nightmare.
The most repellant show I have ever seen and listened to.
-
This has been a horrible day. I spent the morning weeping over Karla Burns and the afternoon weeping over my existence and my aches and pains. Every move I take, every step, every attempt to stand or sit is a walk to hell and back. I'm terrified that next week I will learn I have more cancer, I'm worried about living alone. I'm worried about the cats; I had hoped that property was actually selling and that I could set aside money for their care. I'm tired of living and scared of dying.

Back from a good first rehearsal and then a lovely lunch with Marshall Harvey at the Coral Cafe.
-
No mail to pick up.
-
Remade one piano track and did one new one. I'll try to do a couple of the easier ones tonight.
-
Hello, everyone.
-
Sorry to hear about your friend Karla, Larry. It's never easy to lose a friend.
-
Hi Jeanne.
-
While it would have been nice to see more of Glacier Park the portion on the 16 miles of open road were lovely. We were there for 5 hours.
-
TCB, I hope your break is short-lived and you feel able to come back soon. Thanks for letting us know you need a break.
-
We then drove to the charming old town of Whitefish and walked around for awhile.
-
Your headshots turned out really well, Bruce. You look really happy. Does Karen give everyone a little brownie when they enter her studio?
-
Then we drove through the little old town of Kalispell. It is a shame there is a major road going through it.
-

We are staying at a Ho,iday Inn about a mile away from downtown Kalispell. Nearby are several nice shopping strips including a Bed Bath and Beyond. Since we need new sheets as soon as we are home, gotta switch out the winter flannel, we stopped on our way back to the hotel and decided which ones we want to order. The store near us isn't all that convenient and we never seem to get there.

I have no idea what an electric desk is.
-
Hi, Jane. Sorry I didn't see your post.
-
I think singdaw was talking about a standing desk that can be adjusted electronically.
-
Well, I am pooped. Laundry and some cleaning today.
TTFN.

Thank you.

Finished The Great Imposter. Listening to the last of The Tales of Hoffman - very enjoyable. Then we'll see about another movie.
-
We enjoyed our dinner so much last night we returned to the restaurant again.
-
Last night I had a crisy style house made bean burger with salad and fries. Keith had a Southwest chop salad.
Keith had the salad again tonight. I had a small version of the salad with a plain bean burger on top, oh so good.
-
DR Jane - they say sitting is the new smoking. As in, bad for you. And since I answer phones for work all day, I think a standing desk is a good investment in my health.
-
So fun reading about your trip. DR Jane. My DH worked for two summers in Glacier and has very fond memories of it. I hope to visit some day.
-
Gratuitous Post #114.

The restaurant is called the MacKenzie River Puzza Pub and Grill. There are 3 locations near us, including the one walking distance from the hotel.
13 total in Montana, 15 more in other states. The only one in Washington is in Spokane. We wish there was one in Vancouver.
-
Good night, friends.

The baby shower was very nice

Kind of like our trip, mostly no masks. We doubt everyone has been vaccinated.
-
I am more concerned about catching a cold than covid, probably because the air conditioning the last 3 nights has made me feel like I am fighting a cold. Hopefully it is just allergies.
-
Dancing tonight was fun. But none of the folks from Tuesday's class could remember the steps we worked on. It was a lot of reminders.
-
Listening to some new George Antheil music that came in to the library. This first disc, Specter, is three pieces for violin and piano. There's also an Antheil orchestral works collection. Both feature the Specter of the Rose Waltz, which was reorchestrated a year after it premiered.
-
I think Cole Porter Vol. 3 may be my favorite of all Ben Bagley's albums. The library in my neighborhood had a copy when I was a burgeoning Porter fanatic in high school. It was the first Bagley album I ever heard. So, it has special memories for me. A Lady Needs a Rest is a classic, as is Elaine Stritch growling through When Love Beckoned. Lynn Redgrave is delicious on I Want to Be Raided by You, even if the title is written in the passive voice. (The copy editor needs to go on vacation.)
-
I also think the library bought a copy because it's one of the tamer of Harvey Schmidt's covers.
-
Hello, 1 guest!

Hi, John.

I hope Tom is ok

Finished with my viewing.
-
I've been talking with my friend David who lives in Seattle.
-
He was going to come down to Olympia tomorrow, but something came up and he can't some to visit.
-
But he thinks he can come down in a couple of weeks.
-
My friend Margo also knows him, so she would've visited with him, too.
-
But we'll all get together when he comes back down. :)
