Well, you've read the notes, the notes had red lights, and now it is time for you to post until the red light cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: BENEVOLENT!
-
Topic of the Day:
At Long Last Love
The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas
Boogie Nights
The Cannonball Run
Lucky Lady
Silent Movie
Smokey and the Bandit
And an Honorable Mention goes to Evening Shade, his TV series in the early 1990s.
-
Have a good day, all!
-
Good morning, friends.
-
And, to paraphrase DR Matthew, that is all I have to say about that.
-
I have to go do some cardio. I don't want to, but it must be done. It simply must.
-
Good morning, all!
-
The life you save may be your own.
-
I am off that darned bike.
-
Sweaty. But I survived.
-
Good morning, all!
-
Last night we slept with the AC running; it was too damned hot and muggy. I slept well until 4:30 or so, and around then the cats got restless.
-
I am still doing Noom. I have been at it now for 5 weeks. I am down 24.5 pounds. I am happy, but I still have such a long way to go. But I am headed in the right direction.
When I had my pre-surgery check-in last fall, the doctor said, "You know, you're very sick. Maybe, given what the world is going through right now, it's time to take stock of yourself and make some changes."
So I am.
-
Still relishing that Bernstein story that DR elmore3003 posted yesterday.
-
That aria is so hard to get just right in tone, between the singing, the acting, and the comedy.
-
We watched the first act of the 1969 BBC telecast of Britten's Peter Grimes last night. The picture was good, the designs good, the cast very good, and the sound dreadful. Surely the BBC sound folk could have adjusted things before releasing a commercial disc?
-
We have a dangerous heat warning here today. It's going to be quite humid; the heat index is going up to 101.
-
Interesting, DR elmore3003. I hated the Met's most recent staging, with everyone popping out from behind Advent-calendar windows.
-
:)
-
I mat set it aside and watch the Royal Opera DVD with Jon Vickers, whom I saw in the role at the Met.
-
This morning I have a zoom thing as a guest lecturer for a Dike University musical theatre class, 8:30-10:00. I hope it goes well.

Interesting, DR elmore3003. I hated the Met's most recent staging, with everyone popping out from behind Advent-calendar windows.
That was the work of that "favor of the day" director, the inept John Doyle, who screwed up Where's Charley? and Irma la Douce for Encores! I cannot say I think much of his work. My memory of that Met production I saw - around 1984 - was by Tyrone Guthrie.

What an exciting prospect, DR elmore3003!

The first 9 minutes of In The Heights that have been released early make me want to watch the entire thing.

I would love to see it.
-
Good morning, all.
-
I don’t have to usher Friday, so I think I’ll go see In the Heights.
-
Congratulations on the Noom progress, Singdaw.

Two!

Starting Over
Rough Cut

Congrats to DR singdaw on his Noom progress!

Thursday......last night was a good audience, but it was probably our most lackluster show....everyone was a bit tired and for some reason the theatre was very WARM.
-
Well, I think my bit went well. I'm happy it's a thing of the past.

:)

Was this the week that DR Elmore starts typing classes with vixmom? :)
-
Thursday morning greetings! I have a 4pm appointment for a haircut that I really, really need.
-
Quarantine Hair, DR Ginny?
-
I remember being pretty thrilled with Boogie Nights and how it so strikingly recreated a time and place. I also agree it gets pretty depressing in the latter stretches.
I've really liked the films of P.T. Anderson, but it's now been a number of years since I watched any of them so I'm about due for a little PTA revival here.

That brings to mind the picture I took in 1974 of my first ever kitty (we only had dogs when I was a kid) walking across the keys of the rented baby grand in my first Hollywood apartment. It's...somewhere around here; when I find it I'll post it.

I can't wait to open the windows. It's 77 now, and (FINALLY) only going up to 83 today, so I should just do it. Right?
We've had the place shut tight since Saturday noon, and this just seemed like the grisliest stretch of hot humid weather.
So yes, it's time. The changeover comes tonight, anyway, with overnight temps (FINALLY) in the low 50s. Even if it's a leeetle warm this afternoon, it'll be nothing like the whole past week.
-
Quarantine Hair, DR Ginny?
Kind of, DR ChasSmith. I'd started letting the layers grow out and the last conversation Tina and I had before quarantine was about whether or not to let my bangs grow out, too. Well, that was in February, 2020, and I didn't have a haircut until August, so that took care of that. I've had trims in November and April and that's what I'm having today. We'll see how long this longer hair lasts, but for now it's sort of fun.

It was looking just fine on those Kritzerland zoom sessions.

The windows are OPEN.
And omg, the smell of the fresh air and the feel of a slight breeze are incredible. Birds are singing. I'm sure a jackal is braying somewhere. It's a whole new world.
-
Congrats DR ELMORE!
-
What was your lecture about, DR elmore3003?
In other words, we'd love to hear it! :) (I realize that's probably impossible.)

It is very important to do and I am glad you are making the effort.

Is your long hair longer than mine? Currently I consider my hair short.

Not quite, DR Jane, but, based on your anniversary dinner picture, it's very close.

THREE!!!

Good Morning. Last day of school is tomorrow. It certainly has been a year! Who knows what lies in store for next year? We'll have to say what the people at the top tell us. Other than that, trying to get things done. I'm teaching an iMovie class this summer in summer school - which won't start until a week from Monday. Heading to Orlando on Saturday, looking forward to some heat as it's been way too chilly here in the Bay Area. I'm sure after my week in the heat/humidity, I'll be looking forward to Bay Area weather again.
-
So anyway I used AnthemScore to transcribe an MP3 to sheet music and it seems to have worked......at least I made the effort.

Those kitten pictures from DR ChasSmith are ADORABLE! It truly is "Kitten on the Keys." Isn't there a piece with that title?
-
I, too, am intrigued by AnthemScore.

I haven’t been following Noom for a while

I should look at it again I suppose

I wish him the same great success and recovery as my friends who have done this.

DR Vixmom does Vixdad need both hands done or just one?

I attempted to post one of my favorite photos of Montana. Of course it is too large. On the amazing drive between Glacier Nation Park and Butte we stopped at this little country store in the middle of nowhere. Out back was this incredible view of the mountains and three horses lying down in front of a pond.
-
I was motivated to stop reading them
I think I would follow your lead.
-
DR Vixmom does Vixdad need both hands done or just one?
Just his right hand

Here is "Kitten on the Keys":

Got a pot of potato and herb soup on the stove. Smells good.

That is good. I know many who have needed both done.

I have been listening to a modern day social satire called Seating Arrangements about a wedding among a certain layer of the upper crust. It's been going on for a bit too long, and I still have a little to go. The author just made a terrible faux pas that says she isn't of this echelon and doesn't entirely understand it. Her main character, hardly a hero, has ordered "a gin martini." Anyone from that social stratum would know that martini is made with gin. A vodka martini is something else entirely. What, I don't know.
Makes me long for my Edith Wharton. She knew exactly what she was talking about she lived it.
-
Gratuitous post No. 101!
-
Back from a good rehearsal. Our author saw it and laughed and seemed happy. ALL the humor in it is me and the actors - not much was in the script.
-
I had a bacon and cheese omelet at Hugo's with a side Caesar salad - the salad wasn't as tasty as usual but the omelet was very good.
-
Catching up on stuff now and then I may try to watch something.
-
Just bought my ticket for In the Heights tomorrow. Showtime is at 9 p.m. I hope I can stay awake.
-
Wow - that would be pushing it for me. I'm usually in bed by 9:00 and passed out no later than 9:30pm.
-
I just noticed that In The Heights is only streaming on HBO Max until July 11, after which, presumably, it will disappear.
-
Speaking of which-
Good night, friends.
-

Darn. I didn't know that.

But first, I'm leaving work.
Be back later.

A story for Elmore.
-
Watching The Show Must Go On. Saw casts from & Juliet, Six, Lion King and Mary Poppins.
-
Watched to the intermission. Quite enjoyable, even if the material (Pretty Woman) is occasionally questionable.
-
Good night, all.
-
I have never seen a studio work so hard to shove a film down everyone's anxious throats. A humungous number of advance screenings for fans, the eight-minute clip, the HBO Max - it's relentless and is costing a TON of dough. I get very suspicious with stuff like that - Rent was the same way.
-
Then again, most of the reviews seem to be love letters in one way or another. I know everyone LOVED the director's first film, Crazy Rich Asians - I didn't last fifteen minutes with it. But, I'll see this at some point.
-
I am absolutely starving fir no good reason
-
I’ve eaten plenty
-
Trying to resist temptation and just go to sleep
-
Finished with my viewing.
-
Listening to Ormandy doing The Firebird - which was my introduction to it in the same music appreciation class as The Moldau.
-
Let's see who notices something in tomorrow's notes.
-
I am absolutely starving fir no good reason
Don't you hate it when that happens?

Let's see who notices something in tomorrow's notes.
Hmm...I wonder what it could be!
-
I'll just have to wait.
-
I'm checking out In the Heights on HBO Max and I'm watching it (just for fun) with the Spanish soundtrack and English subtitles. :)
-
I wonder if any of the original actors dubbed their own roles in Spanish.
-
And I have a headache in my eye
-
I watched the first 8 minutes preview
-
And I watched (on YouTube) the Jimmy Fallon” you’ll be back “ number
-
And the interview
-
Vixter saw in the Heights on Broadway , it was a class trip,so I didn’t go
-
She loved it
-
And I have HBO max so I guess I’ll check it out over the weekend
-
I was surprised to find I enjoyed Hamilton
-
I am going to go take some Advil and go to bed
-
Good night
-
Vibes to TCB wherever you are and whatever you’re up to
-
Hope your eye feels better, Vixmom!
-

I saw a non-Equity national tour her in Olympia and it was so good!

Thank you George

All wraps have been signed.
-
Got a surprise dinner invite for Saturday from Muse Margaret - so that will be my first splurge meal since starting Keto and ask me if I give a flying Wallenda. She's making the chicken I like and I will damn well eat it all up and even though the coating has carbs it won't be over fifty, so... Of course, she'll probably have rolls and dessert, but I'll be good the following few days. And they always say that after two months you can do a splurge meal once a week.
-
All wraps have been signed.
Cool!
-
Here's a funny that was posted on a FB group:

:))
-
I haven't watched all of In the Heights, but what I've watched, I really enjoyed!
-
I ordered the soundtrack, and it's supposed to arrive tomorrow.
-
I'm surprised that it's only one CD...there's a LOT of music in the movie!

And a heck of a lot of dancing!
-
Just make sure you stay (or jump) to the very end of the credits.
-
There's a very short after-credit scene.

It's not revelatory, but it's just really cute. ;D
