Well, you've read the notes, the notes were animalistic, and now it is time for you to post until the animalistic cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: VERMILION!

Topic of the Day (part 1):
James Garner:
The Children's Hour

Topic of the Day (part 2):
Lee Remick:
Days of Wine and Roses
I Do! I Do! (TV musical)
No Way to Treat a Lady

And now, to bed...perchance to sleep and dream, or at least to sleep in very late!
Have a good day, all!
-
DR John, I am glad it was your mother's idea. I hope she is happy there.
-
DR George, two days ago my cousin in So. California said it was a record breaking 114 degrees where she lives.
-
Good morning, all!
-
I had an endless and very poor night of sleep. I remember bits of one dream. I was working on, and performing in, a benefit concert. The time ran between then and now; at one time I was working with the designer who was my graduate school advisor pn 1969 and at other times I was in 2021. I was performing the song "Air" from Hair, and several British stars had come from England to be seen as well. For some reason, Annabelle, Thatch, and Stella had come to the theatre with me, and an hour before the performance, I was trying to round them up to take them home and the backstage area was filled with cats. I put Annabelle on my shoulders, picked up Stella and Thatch, and headed ouutside by the pool to put them into a cage. Annabelle escaped and ran back into the stage door. I put the other two into the cage and went back inside. While looking for Annabelle among all these cats, I found an orange and white cat looking like Thatch, and his collar told me it was Thatch!
I carried him out, let the false Thatch out and put the real Thatch in. Sally Netzel, a friend from the 1980s Drama Book Shop days, was sitting in a lounge chair next to the pool. I went back to fetch Annabelle . . . and I woke.
-
I have no plans today, so I may begin work on my A&T sequel. Or I may just lounge amnd lie around with the cats.
-
DR Jeanne, I understand your concern about driving with dilated eyes and you might want to look into an ambulance service to get you home. I used one after my surgery last year, and it was one of my smartest investments.
-
DR Laura, have you seen any of Simon's Cat episodes?

-
I'm glad that my 8 weeks since my first shot was yesterday. Because later yesterday they announced that they are closing the walk in clinics for 1 week due to a late shipment. So I'm really happy that I was able to go yesterday.
-
Good morning,
fiends friends.
-
Good news, indeed, DR Jennifer.
-
I once was obsessed with Les Noces and listened to it nonstop in various different recordings. I still love it. I have never seen it danced.
-
I also love Simon's Cat. Thanks for that link, DR elmore3003.
-
On the docket for today: a walk, perhaps a nap, assembling my new standing desk, roasting some more vegetables, and a few other projects.
-
I had some very far-out dreams which I can't remember now.
-
One interesting thing about the Fitbit, if I wear it to bed, is that it gives me a full sleep report: how many minutes awake, in light sleep, deep sleep. and REM sleep. What percentage of time I was below my resting heart rate, and how long I was "restless." And when. And it scores it all, so you can compare from night to night.

Sounds invasive. Yet my bipap does the same thing.

I'm with BK on both Stravinsky ballets; they're a slog to sit through. I first saw The Firebird at Cincinnati Ballet, around 1970, glorious score but a boring ballet. Les Noces will never be something I want to listen to again. Now, Petroushka? I love it!
-
There has been a recall on cpap and bipap machines this week. I am the only one I know who uses Phillips, which was the company with the recall. But I can’t find out if my machine, now 7 years old, is included. My apnea doctor is no longer operating in the area. So I called Aetna and got a referral. I have a virtual appointment with a new doctor in August. Nice thing about the virtual appointment is I can do it from Louisville.

In ninth or tenth grade, I saw Baryshnikov dance Petrouska with the Louisville Ballet. It was not a sci-fi, futuristic restaging with the puppet all in black to symbolize the director’s incompetence.

Good news, indeed, DR Jennifer.
Very good news.

I think it’s time to get up. I’m sure the bird thinks so.

Recently, Annabelle's had a wet tail on several occasions, and last night I learned the reason. She sits on the edge of the toilet and her tail drags in the water. Last night, while I was changing their water dish, I discovered this.
After my bath yesterday afternoon, when I drained the tub, I let the bar of soap fall into the water and did not retrieve it. When I picked it up during the water dish cleanup, it left a soapy residue on the bottom of the tub, so I decided to run some water to rinse it out. Annabelle ad Stella hang out in the bathtub and I didn't want the soap getting on their feet and then their licking it off/ So I was sitting on the edge of the tub watching the water drain and Annabelle's tail in the toilet when she suddenly darted past me and leaped into the bathtub. eding up with all four feet in about an inch of water. She was not amused, but I was. Poor baby!
-
Was there a mail delivery yesterday? That federal holiday came rather late on Thursday.
-
LOL.....the wet comes in on little cat feet.

DR ELMORE the Dream-O-Matic 6000 says that your dream indicates you are feeling a bit overwhelmed at ALL of the projects you are working on. And although you try to avoid it, your personal activities keep taking up your work time....

Thanks for that news, DR John G. I use a Phillips "Dreamstation" CPAP, about a year and a half old. I'll have to check if my machine is on the recall list.
-
TOD:
I love Lee Remick in The Competition. It's not a great movie; kind of camp, really - but I love Lee in it.
-
It does appear that my CPAP is on the recall list. Thanks, DR John G., for that alert. I would have hoped that my medical provider would have alerted me, but they did not. I am glad I got the message in another way.

The Phillips website says that I should discontinue use immediately.

Good morning, all.
-
I haven't seen The Wheeler Dealers since the 1960s. I loved that stuff as a kid, and it was regular drive-in fare for my family.
-
I did watch The Anderson Tapes last night. Most interesting, what I'd remembered and what I'd forgotten. It's definitely fun, even while the whole approach re the "new" surveillance technology then is amusingly dated. But I'd forgotten it was a Sidney Lumet film, so the direction and especially some of the NYC footage is fine.
There's a great shot that begins looking west across Times Square at the Howard Johnson's -- with a large "Burlesque" sign above it, and a "1776" sign up high just down the street -- then it pans around to looking east on 45th or 46th St., whichever it is. But every location shot takes me right back to when I first began visiting NYC, in literally that year (1970, when they were filming). The whole look and feel is of a NYC that is largely gone.
-
That dated surveillance theme reminded me another film dated in the same way, but over a decade later -- Peckinpah's The Osterman Weekend. I recall that being an oddball film, anyway. Nevertheless, the thought of it makes me want to take that one out and have a go at it.

I’ve used mine for seven years. I can wait seven weeks. I really cannot sleep with out it.

Yes, indeed.

Has anyone ever listened to Stravinsky's Threni? It is the composer at his most astringent. If you don't like Les Noces, you probably won't like Threni.
His Mass is cooly quite beautiful, however. Gorgeous woodwind writing.

Best news I've had today. Thank you again.

I'm nearing the end of episode five of One-Lane Bridge. There's been a murder confession. All I know from that is that the person confessing isn't the murderer.

Never listened to Threni but I do have his recording of that and probably everything else.

I find this worth watching.
Scientists in the US are starting a booster shot trial, giving fully vaccinated people another jab.
Participants are given a booster shot of the Moderna vaccine - whether they previously got 2 shots of an mRNA vaccine (from Pfizer or Moderna) or 1 adenovirus (J&J) shot.
I don't think it is with the upcoming Moderna booster with the new strain, just the one that already is being used.
-
DR George if you can find a study doing this you could get a Moderna booster and earn money.

Very interesting, DR Jane.
-
Scary news about the CPAP's.
-
Up from a nap. I could use another.
-
JRand, there was a section of Stephen Fry's Heroes you might enjoy. In telling the story of Bellerophon, he comes to the part where a ruler's wife is spurned by the young hero and accuses him of trying to rape her. As you may remember "from the Bible or the musical," he says, before reminding us of the story of Joseph.

I just saw a recipe on the web for "Salted Caramel Crunch Cookies." That sounds a lot better than salad.

Yummy though salad can be.

Great book review. Don't know if the book really is great, however:
"Nghi Vo’s adaptation of “The Great Gatsby” is completely ridiculous, and I love it with the passion of a thousand burning hearts.
"Not only does Vo capture the timbre of Fitzgerald’s lush prose, but she follows the trajectory of the novel’s contrails into another realm. This is a version of “The Great Gatsby” in which partygoers drink demon blood, sorcery twists the beams of reality, and Jay Gatsby is a bisexual vampire.
"Finally, the story makes sense."
-
I like it.

That's pretty cool. Just a couple of days ago, I came across PattyDrums (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCbbB9OBqp93J4_d9lpsAyiQ), this guy on YouTube (although he only has seven videos) who, in a couple of his videos, plays his drum set along with classical music: here are Vivaldi's Winter (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RqhYzIx19E8) from "The Four Seasons," and Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5TxMjEKT2BM). :D

And now, I have to get ready to usher downtown. My shirt is in the dryer, but I'll have to take it out early so that I can leave on time. I don't mind it being a little damp. It'll dry quite quickly. If my friend Margo is ushering tonight also, we'll probably go out to eat somewhere. We'll see.

The potato salad went over well. And I have enough for lunch tomorrow. (I made enough for 10, according to the recipe, but there were only six of us.)
-
Now back to Cher.
-
It’s quite hot and humid here today
-
Dinner was chopped iceberg lettuce with cottage cheese and peach slices
-
Gratuitous post No. 99!
-
That sounds awfully healthy, Vixmom.
-
I didn't do all that much today, but I am wiped out.
-
Wishing you all a good evening.
-
Good night, friends.
-
Finished disc 2 of Cher, where Michael Jackson tried to upstage Cher every chance he could. And Lily Tomlin was just wonderful.
-
Back in the 1980s, Tomlin had relatives in Kentucky and often spent time with them. During one semester when I was at UK, she brought the in-progress Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe to the theater department and presented staged readings of various versions of the script over the course of a week or so, and she spoke at a number of classes. As theater critic for the paper, I got to see every performance and was in one or two of the classes. It would be a couple of years before I saw what Jane Wagner used in the final script. It wasn't necessarily my favorite material, but it made sense.
Tomlin was great the whole week, and her people couldn't have been better with the students they worked with on sound, lighting, etc. It wasn't just her group coming in and dictating things.
-
I had started a western called Ambush with Robert Taylor, Jean Hagen and more. But JB doesn't like the sounds of gunshots, so i think I'm through with this for the evening.
-
And I'll talk to y'all tomorrow.
-
Good night, all.
-
Well, Margo and I ushered tonight at the WCPA for Debbie's Dance.
-
The theater holds 988 seats, but they limited the number of tickets sold to only 190.
-
That's one-fifth the capacity, but they sold seats on all four levels.
-
The problem was that they had wanted five ushers, and Margo and I were the only ones to sign up!
-
:o
-
So, Beth, the house manager tonight, scanned tickets at the door, and Margo ushered on the orchestra level.
-
She has bad knees and can't really manage the stairs on the other levels as well as she used to.
-
So, I was up at the entrance to the mezzanine level, but I had to watch for people below at the loge level, and hope that people who went up the balcony wouldn't have any trouble.
-
:-\
-
I did get some questions from people who were going up to the balcony, and I tried to explain what I could as best as I could, but it didn't seem like there was any trouble.
-
No one came down before, during or even after the show to complain, so WHEW!!
-
PAGE FIVE DANCE!!
-
After the show, I went to Margo's house and we ordered dinner from Applebee's.
-
There's one about a mile from where she lives.
-
Margo got the classic cheeseburger, and I got the Caesar salad.
-
I should've gotten the classic cheeseburger. ::)
-
Dinner was chopped iceberg lettuce with cottage cheese and peach slices
Similar to Vixmom's dinner, the Applebee's Caesar salad was essentially chopped lettuce, croutons and grilled chicken.
-
It was just okay...which is why I should've gotten the classic cheeseburger.
-
Live and learn. ;)

Years ago, Lily Tomlin performed at the Washington Center for the Performing Arts.
-
She didn't perform Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe, but the theater was full and she was fantastic.
-
At the end of her show, she exited the stage through the audience and walked right by me!
-
Why are they limiting ticket sales? Did they not get the memo?
-
About to post new notes.
-
And I don't care who knows it.
-
Why are they limiting ticket sales? Did they not get the memo?
I assume that they limited the number of seats for this performance because of the rules when they first started selling the tickets, and probably decided not to open it up, yet. Just a guess.
-
I'm ushering again next Sunday, so I'll see what the seating is like then.
-
Yeah, well, the should open it up to those who are fully vaccinated.
