Well, you've read the notes, the notes were untitled, and now it is time for you to post until the untitled cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: PERAMBULATE!
-
Topic of the Day: I was perusing through BK's Books (http://www.kritzerland.com/books.htm) and I would think that the following could make pretty good movies (in chronological order):
Writer's Block
Rewind
Red Gold
Some Days Are Murder
And the Benjamin Kritzer and Adriana Hofstetter books should be TV series. :)
-
Have a good day, all!
-
Good morning, all!
-
I'm feeling under the weather this morning and moving very slowly and very cautiously.
-
I had several strange dreams that I now remember nothing of. I do remember bits of one in which I was at a train station waitging for a train with a ypoung boy and girl and the head of the last foundation I worked for. The train was late and I got a phone call from a mustery person who wanted to purchase all of my Babes In Toyland materials. I was trying to keep the gist of this call from the foundation head.
-
I have no plans today whatsoever, so I plan to do very little.
-
This site is telling me my photo is too large, but it's only 38KB!
-
Good morning, all.
-
I have had some odd dreams lately. In one i was cast in a play within a play, except the within-a-play part hadn’t been written. I wasn’t the star of this show but I was leading the protest that we couldn’t perform until the writing was done.
-
In last night’s dream, I had to mail out notices and the response I got was that the recipient ignored the mail because my name and return address were on the envelope.
-
Time to face the day.
-
Vixmom, glad you found the cause of the leak.
-

We’re you protesting because you didn’t want to perform until the part was written or because you didn’t want to wait until it was written?

I don’t like to wait unless I have a long, 19th century French novel in tow.
-
I have more than a hundred on my phone’s Kindle app.
-
I’m going to have to ponder today’s topic.
-
TOD
Some Days are Murder
I see the Benjamin Kritzer books as a PBS miniseries.
-
Well yesterday I read for Mr. Kirby and Kolenkhov the Russian ballet master......which means I shall probably be cast as Paul or Mr. DePinna......
Another set of auditions tonight, and then we shall know.....
-
TOD:
Red Gold.
But I do not know how to cast it.....but if it's on someone else's list I shall peruse their choices with interest.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Strange dreams here, too, but that's typical. There's been nothing cohesive or interesting enough to report.
-
I used to do that with books, imagining how they should be filmed and cast, and those ideas inevitably turned out to be silly and embarrassing to me in later years. I'll be interested to hear people's ideas on BK's books.
-
I think the most fun as a movie would be Patrick Bronstein Presents. All of those schlocky movies would be a hoot. I’d rather have two actors playing the part, nothing like the creepy de-aging process of The Irishman. But I could see Dustin Hoffman playing the elder Patrick. (Mel Brooks would be even more ideal.)
-
Monday morning greetings! No excuse - good or bad - for not posting here recently. I've been pretty involved in crafty things, even going IN PERSON to the monthly art journaling class at a store in the Dayton 'burbs. And Richard is indulging me in the Ohio Paper Crafting Shop Hop, which involved a day trip last Tuesday and will involve a little more extensive travel a couple of days this week.
-
And last Thursday, my book group gathered for a potluck dinner at the new home of our friend Katie. She and her husband have built their retirement home adjacent to the bed and breakfast they own in Oxford, OH. My contribution to that event required 2 days of cookie baking last week.
-
Good afternoon!
-
TOD: Yes, the Benjamin Kritzer trilogy should be a series. The Adriana Hofstetter stories would make great movies. Not sure about casting.
-
One more...

There’s a NYT obit of conductor Elliott Lawrence that says he conducted Bye, Bye Birdie in 1953.

From DR Vixmom:
Fortunately Vixdad had the right tools and know how to repair the water line
Excellent news and a great relief.

From TCB:
No, you had to pay your own taxes and port charges; plus your air fare back from Florida.
Plus worry about getting covid while on a ship.

Good Morning. Lovely weather today. Not much else happening, been trying to do very little in the month of July as the month of August, it all starts up again. Yesterday, the DBF and I headed over to the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk for a few hours. We got season passes for the rides now, which is fun and we've decided that Santa Cruz is "our place". It's about an hour and a half away, which is nice.
-
I'm up, I'm up - almost eight hours of sleep.
-
Interesting to read the books into movies stuff.
-
Good
morning afternoon, friends.
-
I'm sorry about your plumbing woes, DR vixmom.
-
At least it was entertaining.
To us.
Not, I'm sure, to you.
-
But you do have such a lovely way with words.
-
It has been a morning.
-
I had a toe infection which has not healed in several weeks and which was making exercise extremely painful.
-
Today, the doctor decided that the course of action was to numb up my big toe and remove a part of the toenail.
-
It sounds gross, but frankly, the relief is palpable.
-
Sorry if that's TMI.
-
This site is telling me my photo is too large, but it's only 38KB!
That's so weird! :o

Good for you, John! ;)

The lack of copy editors…
Yikes! Even I know that that's wrong!
-
Photo thing should be fine now - it keeps defaulting every few days and they're trying to figure out why.

Years ago, a friend of mine had to have that done. He said that they weren't able to numb his toe enough. :o

Last night we watched a film of Rossini's great comic opera The Barber of Seville, one of several made by opera director/designer Jean-Pierre Ponnelle. I believe it's based on his La Scala production, but it's been expanded in a studio with street action, a real storm, etc. It isn't as good as Ponnelle's film of The Marriage of Figaro because he isn't a particularly good film director, the lip-synching shows at times, and he does some very strange things at times like focus on the non-singing role of the comic servant and his reactions, but he has five fantastic singing actors who keep the plot bubbling and sing beautifully. Hermann Prey is very funny and charming as the schemer Figaro, Luigi Alva is a handsome Count Almaviva who's very funny in his disguises as drunk soldier and music teacher, and Teresa Berganza is a treat as a sly, cunning Rosina, the object of his affections. Her elderly, vain guardian and would-be husband is sung by Enzo Dara, whose ridiculous portrait on the wall is the butt of many jokes, and her oily "I will betray anyone for the right price" music teacher is sing by Paolo Montarsolo, who makes a feast of his "La Columnia" aria. I liked it very much, but I wish it were better.
-

Yep! Thanks, BK!

:)
-
Thanks, DR George! The procedure has been completed. It wasn't so bad. I think the toe may be quite tender for a few days, though.

Did people in that time not have enough money for fabric? 8)
Not that I'm complaining, mind you.

Well back from the interview

If they offer the job I will not accept
-
bk, did I miss it? Did you name the Malcolm Arnold opera?
He mentioned the title, The Dancing Master, in today's notes. :)
-
It’s basically the same job I left 2+ years ago with a worse commute and a smaller desk in a more crowded work space.

DR Jeanne, with the indoor mask mandate in effect will you be able to get your hair cut?
-
He mentioned the title, The Dancing Master, in today's notes. :)
That he did, DR George. Thank you. I'm proceeding too quickly today and not thinking clearly.

I'm sorry about that situation, DR vixmom. At least you clearly know what is not acceptable to you.
-
I am waiting for a package from UPS.
-
For days now, under the tracking number, is the following notice.
Delay: Emergency Situation or Severe Weather
-
Since the package is from California I expect the delay is due to fires :(
-
Fortunately I am in no rush for the package and only wish the reason for the delay didn't exist.

Well, since we'll visit 5 papercrafting stores in the next 3 days, I suspect I'm more excited than Richard. He's looking forward to eating breakfast at Cracker Barrel.

Aw man, I haven't has a Cracker Barrel breakfast in years.
A few years ago I decided I didn't much care for their lunch and dinner items, but the breakfasts are wonderful.

That he did, DR George. Thank you. I'm proceeding too quickly today and not thinking clearly.
And I'm wondering if it was mentioned last year. It sounded familiar, and I realized that I had actually ordered it back in November. I know I must've listened to it, but I have no memory of what it sounded like, or what I felt about it. ::)
-
I'll have to (hopefully) find out where I put it, and listen to it again.

Hello, everyone.

I should have said DR John G.'s photo, as he originally linked the article.

It's a shared photo. :)

I have been looking more at the Cracker Barrel breakfast menu. I'll have one of everything.

Please and thank you.

They usually are, aren't they?

Jane, I always wear a disposable mask when going to the hairdresser. I simply take it off when he needs to wash my hair and then hold it over my mouth and nose. Now that many people have been vaccinated I feel there's less risk than there was before, but I still prefer wearing a mask.
The many fires may make many people who normally prefer to be maskless rethink that. The air quality is not bad here right now -- "moderate," which is a step down from "good" -- and I can't smell smoke, but that can change in a heartbeat.
-
Thanks for the vibes, everyone!

Hi, Singdaw.
Hi, John G.

Glad you are OK, DR Jeanne.

-
And more vibes to Singdaw.
I will need a procedure something like yours at some point. I tried to book an appointment, but the phones were always busy. That was an easy one to put off. The thought of having my toenail removed is enough to make me faint.
-
Next on the medical agenda is an appointment with the ENT to figure out why my voice has become so hoarse and scratchy.
When your two jobs are talking on the phone and singing, and you can't rely on your voice, it's a problem.
-
I agree, DR Jeanne. It's a scary thought.
I couldn't look anywhere in the vicinity of where they were doing the work. However, they use coolant and numbing agents initially, and frankly, it didn't hurt. The numbness has worn off, and it's very tender, but it's under a bandage so I don't have to look at it.
-
Sorry to hear about the water leaks, Vixmom. It sounds like you're a very experienced homeowner and know what to look for to troubleshoot these problems. Glad to hear that Vixdad could fix it. Think of what a plumber would have cost!
-

Not having to look at it is a big plus! Some things in life shouldn't be seen or heard.
Vibes it heals well and is pain-free very soon.

I had an appointment last week with the osteopath, an appointment I REALLY needed. I arrived at his office to find a sign on the door saying that the office was closed due to an emergency. They weren't saying what it was. Sigh. I understand that things happen, but it was 6 WEEKS until his next opening. He's my primary care physician -- 6 weeks is an unacceptable wait.
My chiropractor is getting rich. (Chiro is expensive, but osteo costs me nothing.)
-
Just had a fun ninety-minute telephonic conversation with Cindy Williams.
-
I just finished Ruth Ware's THE DEATH OF MRS WESTAWAY. I was very impressed with the first 3/4 of the novel -- very interesting story, very hard to put down. But I just can't accept the ending. Too much stretching to make things fit.
Has anyone else read this or any of her other novels? Any problems with endings?
-
For Red Gold, forget the kid characters - who would play the adults?
-
TTFN.

I thought you were avoiding going since your hairdresser wasn't wearing a mask. My mask has never gotten wet while my hair was being washed, probably because my hairdresser began putting a towel over my face.

I can imagine your disappointment. I hope somehow you will get in sooner to make up for the closed office. It was nice that a note was left but would have been better had you received a text, call, or an email.

I didn't think much of "The Woman in Cabin 10" and almost didn't read Westaway. I was glad I did though I admit I don't recall the ending-lol

I don't have a Keith to prevent me from becoming a serious hoarder. ::)
;)
-
Good night, all.
-
Finished with my viewing.
-
So last week, I got a FB message from my friend pug who is the artistic director (and one of the founding members) of Theater Artists Olympia, wanting to know how much money we had in our bank account.
-
I told her, and she said that we (TAO) have an opportunity to do a new production of our show, The Head That Wouldn't Die! ;D
-
Kyle, a friend of mine, started a new theater company a few years ago (Broadway Olympia Productions (https://www.broadwayolympia.com/)) and put on some shows.
-
I did props for Legally Blonde and The Rocky Horror Show, and was in their production of A Christmas Story.
-
Kyle was able to rent a space at the Capitol Mall and now has that as his company's theater space!
-
I think they've had a couple of comics do shows there, and now TAO has the opportunity to perform there, too!
-
I need to reinstate our insurance, so I've been sent some documents to fill out, but I have questions for our president and the insurance company.
-
Hopefully, our president has some answers...I know the insurance company will.
-
But the performances will be in October, and I'll be running the sound and coordinating the concessions (again).
-
Since I'm the money guy, that's part of my job...which is fine.
-
One really good thing about this is that Kyle wants us (and other small theatrical organizations) to succeed, so we're getting a pretty good deal on the rental from him.
-
And two REALLY good things about being at the mall are free and plentiful parking, AND it's handicapped accessible. :)
-
So, they'll start rehearsals in August, move into the space near the end of September (I think), and then play two or three weekends in October.
-
For the insurance, I asked if they were allowing for a possibility of extending, and pug said that there's no chance to extend.
-
I don't know if the space is already booked right after we're done, or it's just to limit the amount that we have to pay, or what.
-
It doesn't matter.
-
I'm pretty sure we'll make more than it'll cost us.
-
"The TAO Collective" wrote the show (which is basically pug and anyone who had a good idea), so no royalties to worry about.
-
The set is very simple, and we used a lot of projections and videos that I'm sure still exist.
-
I love this show.
-
It was very well written and performed.
-
Our version is different than the movie, especially in the second act.
-
I think it makes more sense, but that's just me.
-
Can't wait to finally get back into a theater, not only to actually be involved in a show (even though I'm not acting), but it's a TAO show! :D
-
And now...
