Well, you've read the notes, the notes pushed but didn't shove, and now it is time for you to post until the pushy cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: SCION!
-
Welcome forty-seven GUESTS.
-
So, there's going to be a new UK production of Sondheim and Lapine's Passion. Here's the new artwork:
-
Interesting. ::) I do hope they record it, though.
-
And now, off to bed.
Have a good day, all!
-
Good morning, all!
-
DR George, I truly hate that Passion artwork.
-
Finally, a day with some plans. This morning I must step out to the corner bank for single dollar bills and several rolls of quarters. I must have the cash ready for Access-a-Ride, and I have a trip on Monday.
-
I slept very very poorly last night. I was quite restless, and it doesn't help to be rather unhappy as well.
-
DR Jeanne, no floaters, just an inability to focus.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Not fond of the Passion artwork either. The woman is too beautiful. The green is too glam. Wait, maybe it’s a modern-day retelling in Studio 54! Ya think?
-
Good morning, friends.
-
Off to start the day.
-
Yes, Fosca is intended to be homely.
-
I feel like the tag line on that ad should say: Passion. You Can't Stop the Beat.
-
I've certainly heard of Moeran, but I've never heard his music.
-
Well, time to get my ASS in gear, as DR ChasSmith might say. And occasionally does. :)
-
Have a good day, everyone!
-
Bring on the oatmeal.
-
TCB, this one’s for you.

-
George, thank you for sharing the poster. I’m glad I saw it, even if I don’t like it.
-
No DR JANE - JOSEPH did not get Covid again - but he could be a carrier.... I don't know....
-
Anyway - I am seriously considering giving up the 2004 PT Cruiser and moving on to another car.....we shall see next week.
-
Cloudy weather again today and that's okay.
-
My uncle didn't come home yesterday, so perhaps today.
-
I think I will go look for that Earl Klugh CD.
-
Now I'm thinking about Guy Williams as the father in Swiss Family Robinson. That would have been okay.....except he was a bit young to be the daddy to James & Tommy.....
-
Let’s move on…
-
Two!
-
TOD:
Arise My Love, a Claudette Colbert comedy with a Billy Wilder script
Supernova
-
Good morning!
-
Well.....I watched the first two episodes of GHOSTS last night - and it did make me laugh.
It's sort of a reverse TOPPER - the wife can see the GHOSTS, the husband can't.....
So that's TWO new shows that I like: THE BIG LEAP and GHOSTS.

Good morning, all.

I ate a couple of leftover donuts (microwaved for 7 or 8 seconds) earlier this morning, and now I'm feeling the need for a wee bit more indulgence in the form of, say, a Sausage & Egg McMuffin. I don't think I've had one of those in a year and a half.
-
I'm also going to visit a pharmacy - or two if necessary - to get a flu shot and Pfizer booster. A number of friends have had those two together and suffered no more than the sore arm. I've never been bothered by flu shots anyway, and I just want it all done and over with. I don't want to do it during the week and feel blah for rehearsals, so now is the time for action.
-
Ah yes, that McMuffin is sounding mighty good.
-
I have nothing to report for the TOD.
Wait. Did anybody check to see if it's really Friday? :)
-
Welcome forty-seven GUESTS.
47 guests? Are those people reading your notes, or actually reading the discussions?

I'm hoping when the McRib comes back, it's not a letdown. There was a version of the McRib that was really great, but it was temporary.
-
No DR JANE - JOSEPH did not get Covid again - but he could be a carrier.... I don't know....
I think only if he was asymptomatic.
-
I haven’t had a McRib in ages.
-
My uncle didn't come home yesterday, so perhaps today.
Vibes he can return home today.

I know you can get them together, however, I would not. Just opens up the possibility of double the reaction. GOOD LUCK!

I went to the bank and got 100 singles and $40 worth of quarters. I sat for a while with Miriam, the manager, and we visited and talked about oui cats. She's a wonderful friend.
-
Going to a strip club with all those bills, Elmore?
-
Picked up movies at the library. Another Neil Jordan, Mona Lisa, and another miniseries, I Know This Much Is True.
-
I shall probably watch some more Disney movies this weekend....and some pre-season Hockey games.....
-
I may have some news on the new car front next week. Time will tell.
-
Going to a strip club with all those bills, Elmore?
I wish! No, Access-a-Ride de,mands exact change, so each trip cpsts me $2.75: two singles and three quarters.
-
Back from two (2) jabbings. We'll see what happens next... :)
-
Looking forward to DR Jrand71's potential news next week.
-
I love the McRib, and it's now been quite a few years since my last one.
Several months ago they made their first appearance in years, but not for a very long time. I still wasn't going out all that much then, and by the time I realized I had better move on it, they were gone. Damn them.
-
A bunch of us are meeting at the country cemetery again this evening. It's been a somewhat hectic day and I'm looking forward to relaxing over a drink there.
-
Gin and bones.
-
Somebody asked before how old some of the graves are there. Most of those I see are from the 1800s, but I'm told by someone who should know that there are some 1700s, and even a few from the late 1600s if you know where to look. I apparently don't know where to look, but the real problem is erosion of the carvings on the stones. Some of them are in horrible condition and barely readable.
-

Good news vibes!
-
DR George, I truly hate that Passion artwork.
I don't disagree. :P
-
Yes, Fosca is intended to be homely.
I know! It's like when Jonathan Groff was cast to play Seymour in the recent revival of Little Shop. He's gorgeous and Seymour isn't supposed to be.
-
Oh, look! It's Page Three! ;D
-
TCB, this one’s for you.

Oh, my!
-

My...pleasure?? ::)

Anyway - I am seriously considering giving up the 2004 PT Cruiser and moving on to another car.....we shall see next week.
Good luck! I still haven't seriously started my new car search, yet.

That was me. It is a shame about the carvings.
Truly shocking are when the flat grave markers are completely covered by grass. We found that on some of my family graves when we did our tour in England a couple of years ago. These were in church cemeteries.

When I found out about them, I bought the VHS tapes of the TV episodes that Sondheim co-wrote. I think I still have them somewhere.

I have found six books with the title "Cloud Cuckoo Land"
-
I am currently reading the recently published "Cloud Cuckoo Land" by Anthony Doerr. Has anyone read it?

My sister used to love these. She doesn't eat land animals anymore, but she does still miss them.

I downloaded it, and I also got the Advanced Reader's Copy. I don't know when I'll get to it, though.

I'm up, I'm up - a bit over eight hours of sleep.
-
Have not heard a peep from the helper's mom - not good.
-
A bunch of us are meeting at the country cemetery again this evening. It's been a somewhat hectic day and I'm looking forward to relaxing over a drink there.
Holding a seance?
-
Well, Biden turned down Trump's "executive privilege" attempt to hide his papers from the Jan. 6 committee, and Trump has ordered the four cronies who were subpoenaed to ignore them. The asshole sure acts like an innocent man, doesn't he?
I think he deserves the same punishment as the Brits behind the Gunpowder Plot to blow up Parliament.

Antony Sher’s Year of the King came in today.

You assume a lot, my friend. Who really know what McRib is made of? Could be jackfruit.

Could be soylent green

One of the most mesmerizing live concerts I have ever attended was Russian pianist Daniil Trifonov playing the entirety of J.S. Bach's The Art of the Fugue from memory, just before the whole pandemic started. Well, now it's been released on CD, on Deutsche Grammophon, so everyone can enjoy it.
-
I know it's not historically accurate to play Bach on a modern piano, but I love it. A lot more than a harpsichord.
-
Boo!
-
Boo who?
-
Friday evening greetings! Today I finally had the motivation to switch out the summer patriotic decor in our living/dining room for some fall/Halloween items. In the process, I removed the layer of dust that was deposited during all the jackhammering. Then I had to sit down to cough and catch my breath.
-
Richard is out picking up pizza for dinner and I’m having a glass of wine.
-
Good for you, Ginny.
-
Two years ago today

And this:

And this

Four!

I wish I were back in Greece.

Cute. I will pretend they are veggie dogs.

I went to the storage room yesterday and forgot to bring up the October decorations.
-
DR Ginny are you still coughing & feeling tired from having covid or was it just do to the duct, etc.
-
Richard is out picking up pizza for dinner and I’m having a glass of wine.
Lovely.

A little of both, I think, DR Jane.
-
Going to a strip club with all those bills, Elmore?
There's a joke about the male "stripper" who came home with $70.10. His wife asked him "What cheapskate gave you a dime?" The "stripper" answered: "They were all dimes."
Maybe that's updated to quarters for inflation!

I think it was Jimmy Fallon who said Macdonald's was asked "What do you intend to do about the McRib if there's a pork shortage as in this other news story?" And the McSpokesman said "Those two stories are completely unrelated." :)
-
DR Ginny are you still coughing & feeling tired from having covid or was it just do to the duct, etc.
Feel better, DR Ginny - and to Richard, too!
-
Those are terrific photos, John G!
-
Vibes for DR GINNY.
-
Nice photos DR JOHN G.
-
I don't think I could eat a hot dog with eyes.
-
Almost time for the Washington Caps and Philly Flyers pre season hockey game!
-
and I’m having a glass of wine.
Well-deserved!
-
The hills have eyes... and so do the hot dogs, apparently.
-
I don't think I could eat a hot dog with eyes.
That reminds me of the Gran Flanders joke is it ok to eat chicken with your fingers
-
(punch line was no, you should eat your fingers separately)
-
The hills have eyes... and so do the hot dogs, apparently.
Like in London, where we were shocked that the shrimp still had their heads on.
-

A little of both, I think, DR Jane.
I hope you get your energy back soon.
-
DR John, nice photos and memories.
-
Good evening.
-
Two years ago we were at Disneyland with Wae-Ling.
-
Thanks, everyone, for the vibes. Pizza, wine, and the Cincinnati Bearcats on ESPN - not a bad Friday night.
-
And where's Dino at the piano when you need him?
-
I ask you.
-
Maybe he's lurking on page five.
-
Just around the corner.
-
Or the coroner, if you will.
-
PAGE FIVE CORONER DANCE!
-
Hello, everyone.
-
Two years ago we were at Disneyland with Wae-Ling.
Fun.

At first I wondered if today was Friday the 13th. No. I have now named it Atrocious Customer Service Day.
One of my online orders hasn't shipped and I needed to call to check on it. AT&T rerouted the call to themselves so they could, they said, sell me a new phone or tell me how to update my old one. I have an iPhone 5 and AT&T says it will no longer support 3G after next February. I know I need a new phone, but I've been rather busy and this is October, not February. I told them to reinstate my phone service. They did so, but said this will happen again. So now every time I make a call it's subject to rerouting. Is this outrageous or what?
I then called about the online order. They are no longer assisting with existing orders, only taking new orders. Sigh.
When I returned home from acupuncture I tried calling Consumer Cellular about moving my cellphone service to them, but after waiting on hold for 25 minutes still could not get through. Is there no such thing as a decent mobile service? I left AT&T many years ago in disgust and switched to T-Mobile, which proved to be even worse, so I changed back to AT&T. My recent AT&T experiences haven't been all that bad -- until today. I had horrible experiences with Verizon back East. I'll have to check Virgin Mobile. God! You'd think someone could offer decent service!
-
I'm sure none of that is news to any of you. You've probably alll had equally bad service.
-
Spectrum now offers mobile service, but they've never been that good with broadband, so why would I want them for mobile?
-
Vibes of good health to all.
TTFN.
-
I'm sure none of that is news to any of you. You've probably alll had equally bad service.
Most of the time I have been pleased with T-Mobile. Bryan likes it. Craig switched to Verizon when we lived in Ashland because we didn't have a good T-Mobile tower, which wasn't a big deal to us back then as we had two land-line numbers. Recently he talked about returning to T-Mobile. I don't know if he has done so.
As for AT&T, again in Ashland, over my warnings and protests Keith switched his cell phone to them while I refused to do so. As soon as he could he switched to T-Mobile, at which time I switched from our local carrier to T-Mobile.
-

I find this totally shocking.
-
Made a huge salad for dinner and am plowing my way through it.
-
Starting to watch Arise, My Love. Colbert is her usual wacky self. Ray Milland doesn't quite know what's going on. A promising beginning.
Victor Young score. Mitchell Leisen directing.
-
Hmmm, I wonder if Keith would want to watch this.
-
I will ask him.
-
He is willing except it isn't available to stream.
-
Kind of a lazy little day, mostly dealing with all these materials we need to get to the licensor of A Carol Christmas. I really don't remember having to do this much stuff for The Brain and that was with a MUCH bigger company.

Listening to the symphonies of Brit composer Edmund Rubbra - he's not as accessible as the pastoral boys - a bit stormier, but he does have some very nice pieces and I think his later symphonies calm down a bit. In fact, his fourth is lovely so... I think his first couple were written during wartime, hence stormy. Overall, I do love most of the Brits of this era.
-
Hmmm, I wonder if Keith would want to watch this.
The movie was made after the fall of Spain and before WWII. It has gotten serious in the last third.
-
An episode of the new series of Granchester, and now, to bed!
-
Good night, friends.

There's a decent amount of his work on YouTube. Will have to check it out. Had never heard of him.

I've had T-mobile a little over a year as a separate business line and I've been liking it much more than Verizon wireless.
I find customer service in Verizon wireless just really bad, but that may be that I have a grandfathered contract which they may want me to stop having.

Better service vibes. These experiences sound awful.

Hi, Fred.
-
I am currently reading the recently published "Cloud Cuckoo Land" by Anthony Doerr. Has anyone read it?
I downloaded it, and I also got the Advanced Reader's Copy. I don't know when I'll get to it, though.
How do you get an advanced copy? I would think you would need to read the book early and review it.
Our library selectors regularly get advanced reader's copies from publishers...with no obligation to do anything with them.
-
The selectors rarely, if ever, read pre-pub books themselves when they're deciding on whether to purchase or not. They read literary reviews (Kirkus, Publisher's Weekly, Library Journal, etc.) because those are much, Much, MUCH (that's three MUCHES) shorter than reading the entire book just to make a purchasing decision.
-
Anyway, these A.R.C.s are put on a cart in our lobby for anyone to take, read, keep, give away, or whatever. They can't be added to our catalog as circulating copies, and they can't legally be sold at all, so they're just given away.
-
It's pretty cool to see a book that's not going to be published for several months, and be able to read it before pretty much anyone else, :)
-
I ate a couple of leftover donuts (microwaved for 7 or 8 seconds) earlier this morning, and now I'm feeling the need for a wee bit more indulgence in the form of, say, a Sausage & Egg McMuffin. I don't think I've had one of those in a year and a half.

Get out your handkerchiefs. Supernova is in the same league as Still Alice and Away from Her. I found the chemistry between Colin Firth and Stanley Tucci compelling. The story is heartbreaking.
And it ends with a moving performance of Elgar's Salut d'Amour by Firth. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JxVJ4gTFCh4
-
Good night, all.
-
As one goes through these Rubbra symphonies they get better and better - there are eleven. They haven't received many recordings, I must say. There's a complete cycle on Chandos with Richard Hickox conducting that's good. I prefer the symphonies on Lyrita, performance and sound-wise, but they only did four or five of 'em. I don't have a stereo recording of the fifth so I may have to seek out that single Chandos disc. I do have a wonderful mono recording of it with Barbirolli conducting.
-
Rubbra is a bit more like Walton than Vaughan Williams or he's more like the Vaughan Williams of the sixth and eighth symphony. But several of these symphonies are really beautiful, especially four, six, seven, and eight.
-
Today at my mom's, we played two games of Phase 10.
-
Lost both...again. ::)
-
No big deal.
-
There's always next week.
-
A bunch of us are meeting at the country cemetery again this evening. It's been a somewhat hectic day and I'm looking forward to relaxing over a drink there.
What better place to have spirits, than in a cemetery?

Because why not have both? The download is the officially published version, but the Advanced Reader's Copy might not be exactly the same, so I got the ARC, and when it was officially released, I got the download through my library's OverDrive, so it didn't cost me anything, anyway.
