Well, you've read the notes, the notes were proper notes, and now it is time for you to post until the proper cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: EUPHONIOUS!

Let the discussions continue apace.

And speaking of The Pee-Wee Herman Show on Broadway, the Blu-ray is no longer available on Amazon, so I looked on eBay. The DVD copies that I found all cost at least $50! And I didn't see any Blu-rays for less than $100! :o

Who'd a thunk it??
-
George, thanks for posting that link to the new, spiffy version of the Legally Blonde video!
-
George, I really liked the Legally Blonde musical a great deal, too. We've talked about movies we've seen over and over. Legally Blonde was one of those feel-good musicals that I would go back and see whenever I'd get a reasonable excuse, like when old law school friends were in from out of town and such. The musical felt much closer to my own law school experience (admittedly in the early 1980s) than the movie.
Once I was used to a few downright silly patches in the show, it became more fun to watch it afterwards, knowing what was coming after this brief silly section.
-
Of course, reasonably priced tickets were much more available when Legally Blonde was on Broadway. Premium and what they call "dynamic pricing" hadn't taken such a grasp on the ticket buying system yet.
-
Good morning, all!

I am up earlier than usual since I must needs deal with laundry.

Last night, around 7:30 I got an email from a friend who's doing the 1925 Rodgers & Hart show DEAREST ENEMY in Akron, Ohio, where the show gave its first performances. When I restored the show in 2001 for the Richard Rodgers Centennial, it was performed in spring 2002 by the Village Light Opera Group. Mary Rodgers wanted the show recorded, ut it never happened. When we finally recorded the show in Dublin in August 2012, I spent some time going through the materials and revising some things. To my surprise, after the recording was released, the REodgers & Hammerstein Organization never asked for the recording materials nor made any effort to put the show into their theatre library. When I closed up the office in 2015, I boxed up the cleaned up scores and parts and sent them to the Miami University Library, which holds much of my work.
Then out of the blue several years later, I got a request for the materials from someone at the Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization demanding the materials ("We own them"), and I had to ask the Miami Library to return them to Rodgers & Hammerstein. Last year, I learned the materials are now available for performance through Concord Theatricals, only I learned last night that the materials are a screwed up mess of both 2002 and 2012 orchestra parts and scores. So, hopefully today Concord and I will straighten out the mess.

I hope you get paid for your work DR ELMORE.

I was up ALL night trying to figure out a blocking problem......I finally figured it out about half an hour ago.
I'll just stay up and head to the getting place in about 45 minutes.

Good morning, all.

I hope you get paid for your work DR ELMORE.
I do, too.

Thunderstorms woke me at 4:45 when the power flashed off and on. The sleep machine stopped. A rather rude awakening.

Must get ready for work.

I was so wiped out last night it took me like ten minutes to type a post that said “Hello/Goodbye.”
-
I remember trying to focus at one point to find I had typed utter gibberish.
-
More “utter” than my usual gibberish, I should say.

I just realized that when I was in the second grade I was channeling the as yet unborn DR FREDDIE.
We went to Newby Elementary School and some of the kids wrote a song:
Rah! Rah! For Newby that is our song.
Knowing our lessons and learning right from wrong.
And when it's recess we have lots of fun.
Newby! Yes Newby the school for everyone.
-
The teacher passed out copies of the song to all of us the next morning.
And by the end of first recess some friends and I had already rewritten sentiment.
Boo! Boo! For Newby that is our song.
Not knowing our lessons not learning right from wrong.
And when it's recess we have lots of work.
Newby! Yes Newby! The school for every jerk.

Lorenz Hart had nothing to worry about.

Lorenz Hart had nothing to worry about.
It seems to work well in a Tom Lehrer or Allan Sherman kind of way, doesn't it?
-
527 Guests to the HHW site on a Wednesday morning? That's pretty good!
-
Lea Michele and Aaron Tveit in Chess on Broadway. She’s no Judy Kuhn.
-
Good morning, all.
-
It's a quarter after ten here but I've already played a rehearsal, topped tank off with gas ($2.93, inching up little by little), shopped at Trader Joe's, and eaten a sandwich as I ketchup in here.
Also, I've been awake SINCE FREAKIN' FOUR IN THE FREAKIN' MORNING. Woke up and couldn't get back to sleep, so now I feel like a truck ran over me. And I've got stuff I must do. And I have another 7:30 am rehearsal tomorrow. And a concert in the evening. But after that, I'm truly done until ... (let me think) ... late June or the first week of July.

Millstone Alert - John G, you're just 15 posts from a most delightful posting number 101,000.

BK's veddy proper British experience takes me right back to the late 1970s when I discovered a Sunday morning radio show on KFAC-FM called "Cynic's Choice", hosted by the veddy British Brian Clewer.
It quickly grew on me, and I listened faithfully for quite a while. He played every kind of veddy British humor recording there was, so one got lots of Peter Sellers, Goon Show, Benny Hill, Hoffnung, et cetera et cetera et cetera.
He also extensively talked about (marketed) the Continental Shop in Santa Monica, which I think he owned or co-owned. I'm sorry to say I have no memory of ever going there to check it out.
-
Very interesting story about the DEAREST ENEMY materials, DR Elmore. Please let us know the follow-up.
-
I have yet to have a veddy proper Full English Breakfast. It looks like such a supremely satisfying meal, and I've wanted to for the longest time, but I know of no place around here to get one. I've thought that I'm probably best off gathering all the ingredients and planning to do it myself.

Lea Michele and Aaron Tveit in Chess on Broadway. She’s no Judy Kuhn.
Here's the New York Times link on that story.
https://www.nytimes.com/2025/05/28/theater/chess-broadway-lea-michele.html
"Lea Michele Resuscitated ‘Funny Girl.’ Her Next Move Is ‘Chess.’
The 'Glee' star will join Aaron Tveit and Nicholas Christopher next fall in a Broadway revival of an Abba-adjacent Cold War musical."
-
The pictures I see always have the bangers (sausages) but not the mash (mashed potatoes). Sometimes I see a fried type of potato, like hash browns or similar, but no mash. I wonder if "bangers and mash" is a separate dish apart from breakfast, and not a traditional part of breakfast.
I do know you need to find the right kind of veddy British sausage, and I'm told we do have a store near here that can supply those things.

HHW is up to 459 Guests - on just a regular Wednesday morning.
BK, do your statistics tell you what day's notes or which posting days those Guests are viewing?
-
I hope you get paid for your work DR ELMORE.
No, my request for a royalty was denied. All I can do is my best to see my work is properly cared for.

Thanks for this link! I thought the last couple of paragraphs were particularly interesting:
This fall’s production features another new book, by the screenwriter Danny Strong. The show will be directed by Michael Mayer, who directed Michele both in her breakout Broadway role, in “Spring Awakening,” and in “Funny Girl.”
Mayer and Strong, working with Rice, have been rethinking “Chess” for some time — they collaborated on a 2018 concert presentation of the musical at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington.
-
So another new book for Chess! I love the score but nobody has figured out the book yet. Maybe this will be the one?

Bangers and mash is indeed a different dish than a full English.

I'm up, I'm up - maybe six and a half hours of sleep, thanks to tree idiots, trucks, and other unbelievably loud BS. I am so over this stuff. When I moved in here there was never any noise at all. Ever.
-
Great new review, DR MichaelG, and again, I so wish we could see some of the production!
-
Over a year of building the monstrosity across the street and they're still not quite finished, although it's close.
-
And, as per usual, as soon as I get up all noise ceases.
-
If I get back into bed - it starts up again.
-
I have a call coming at 12:45 to make sure everything is set up for the virtual visit tomorrow.
-
Already did the e check in.
-
That's about it so far.
-
Note to BK:
I don't think it went through, but if you should get a text from me with a photo of me and housemate Kristi at Norman Mailer's gravestone in 2010 ... please disregard!
It's been that kind of a day. :)
-
Re the Drat vid - I may make it available for a day or two, privately on YouTube if I can remember how to do that.
-
ChasSmith, no text.
-
I'm also going to have someone clip the musical numbers so that I have those separately.
-
Ah, good. But now I might as well post it here. It's just something I found while down in a rabbit hole chasing something else (that I never did find), and I was supposed to send it - obviously - to someone else. But now, for everyone's viewing pleasure...
-
So another new book for Chess! I love the score but nobody has figured out the book yet. Maybe this will be the one?
I think it’s like Baby. No book will ever match the score.
A few other shows like that:
Merrily We Roll Along
Ballroom
The Rink
-
YES to the video! Hope you can do that. Same with the musical numbers. Excellent ideas.
-
If I get back into bed - it starts up again.
Could that be the reason for all those many Guests, monitoring your sleeping habits?
-
Now, THAT would be gaslighting! :)
-
Re the Drat vid - I may make it available for a day or two, privately on YouTube if I can remember how to do that.
If you set it to UNLISTED for a brief period, and are careful to whom you give the link, that would mean only people you give the link to could see it.
-
Great new review, DR MichaelG, and again, I so wish we could see some of the production!
Our general director has promised that getting videos up for this season's productions will be one of his summer projects.

Merrily's book works now if you give it TLC like Maria Friedman's production. But no amount of TLC has ever made the Chess books work. I haven't seen the others. Of course "working" is a lower bar than what you said about matching the score.

I finished the laundry, brought it up, and Stella made a break for the hall. Once out of the apartment, she pulled an Annabelle and got lost on another floor. My neighbor, the Man with the Bike, found her on two while I was looking on four and stayed with her unrtil I got to two. Then, getting her into the elevator was sheer hell. I finally grabbed her by the tail, lifted her into the walker's bag and carted her home. She then lay down with me and cuddled while we watched The Young and the Listless, so I guess she's forgiven me for pulling her tail.

Excellent and the photos are beautiful.

Getting it done vibes for DR CHAS SMITH.

Yes DR FREDDIE there is nothing like an 8 year old Tom Lehrer.
-
That hardly seems fair DR ELMORE.

This is a test to see if my time stamp is also correct.

Congrats to DR MICHAELG & Co on another fine review. Yes nice photos.

DR George, thanks for letting us know.

I am going to the theeder early. Our ticket person is supposed to be selling A Christmas Carol tickets to the cast.
She's not starting until six - and I expect we'll have a nice long line that will last until well past their seven p.m. rehearsal start time.....she always does that....and of course she cannot be convinced that starting earlier might be helpful.
-
DR Freddie, thanks for the wonderful Georgia Engel clip from yesterday.

George, you were lucky to have seen her live.

I was going to do a time-stamp test, too, but we lost the internet here (including TV) here for a while.
So here goes. What time is it now?

A perfect 5:29 Eastern! Excellent.

Here is our Elementary school song:

Honeyhill's its name.
It think it's grand.
It is the best school that is in our land.

There is a school not far from home.
Honeyhill's its name.
It think it's grand.
It is the best school that is in our land.
I like that :)
-
And there was another one. We alternated singing them every other day:
We are very proud of Honeyhill
Our challenging work we do.
The good teachers we salute.
Our complaints are very few.
Our school is very beautiful
But it's not the outside that counts.
It's the quality of the work we do,
And every year it mounts.
-
We also sang the Pledge of Allegiance to a very catchy tune.
-
I don't think I had an elementary school song.
-
And obviously, they have stuck with me all these years. :)

Keith got Wordle in three.

I saw the original Broadway production of Chess. I only remember the large triangular towers that kept rearranging themselves.

The best Together Wherever We Go was Florence Henderson and Maureen McCormick on The Brady Bunch. Wonder if they ever had licensing issues with that episode.

I heard that Microsoft Teams is adding a new emoji:
Is that emoji going to represent "Maude" Bea Arthur (Maude's catchphrase "God'll get you for that!") or "Golden Girls" Bea Arthur? Or a combination?
-
Does "bangers and mash" always mean bangers with mashed potatoes, or does it sometimes mean bangers with mushy peas?
Since posting is not all that busy -
Maybe I'll use your "mushy" cue to link this June wedding song?
"Is It Mushy to Say I Love You?"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZZfjTLHl1s
(If I'm recalling correctly - this is the only song I ever put on YouTube which had my music and someone else's lyric.)
-
If the 447 Guests would click on that link and watch for a minute or so, that would be greatly appreciated! :)
I think it's minute or so that registers a view? Who knows?
-
I guess letting it run without watching registers a view, too. :)
-
Listening to a demo recording of Charles Strouse’s Minsky’s. I recognized Brent Barrett’s voice immediately. Fun score.

That was nice DR FREDDIE.

My posting clock is right on the money as well!

Interesting that Donna Murphy decided to weigh in with much detail in the Audra McDonald - Kecia Lewis - Patti LuPone brouhaha. From her Instagram account:
" officialdonnamurphy
I’ve had the privilege of knowing, working with and being awed by these two veteran artists since the 1990s. They each were stars from my very first encounter with them. Those 1st encounters for me were as an audience member, being blown away by their astounding gifts (@audramcdonald in #Carousel @lctheater ; @therealkecialewis in the Original Broadway Company of #OnceonthisIsland .) I then had the honor of workshopping shows w/each of them. I witnessed, up close, not only their immeasurable artistry, but their dedication, discipline, kindness, humor, grace under pressure, strength, support of the communities we were a part of, & their luminous humanity. Since then, I’ve watched Audra and Kecia’s stars’ continue to rise and shine brighter over the years. Their lives & careers have grown, the children they have raised/are raising thrive with their hard working & loving mothers’ support, and they have never been anything less than warm, kind & supportive anytime we have encountered each other.
I do not understand why we cannot use our moments on this earth to lift and support one another. Especially when, as fellow artists, we know the vulnerability & challenges of day to day survival. We live lives of uncertainty. Add to that being women of color who have historically been undervalued, mistreated, and worse. Praise them, raise them up, honor them. And in my case: love them. Sending my love & deepest respect to these two superstars. 💖💖🙌🙌🌟🌟👑👑💞💞 "

Got the hard drive back and watched the first thirty minutes of act one - most is fine, but there's one error where a blackout happens too soon (we put in proper blackouts - in the show the musician stand lights were always on) and I found two or three other small things to adjust. Hoping we can do that tomorrow.
-
Had a chicken breast and chicken pasta salad for food.
-
Dozed off for a bit.

Page six is nigh.
-
Well, almost nigh.

Nigh adjacent.

One more.

PAGE SIX!

Going to hear Marilyn Maye live tomorrow night.

Good night, friends.

Going to hear Marilyn Maye live tomorrow night.
That sounds like great fun!
-
Good night, all.
-
Page SIX???
-
I say nix.
-
I'd rather play pick-up stix.
-
Or watch some flicks.
-
Or get some kicks.
-
Or look a some pix.
-
Or do a mix.
-
I will do some tricks.
-
Well, time to write some damn notes.
-
It really is.
-
And I must get to bed by one at the latest.
-
For sure.
-
No discussion.
-
I shall return.
-
It is Thursday morning here.
-
It's Wednesday here.
-
Notes are written?
-
Has George even visited today?
-
I'd have to go back and look, but other than his Wordl post, I don't think so.
-
Correct. Three posts at two in the morning and then - nothing.
-
Not very sporting.
-
He's got some 'splainin' to do.
-
That is just wrong on so many levels, especially level two.
-
I had fun writing the new notes - you'll see why.
-
That is, if you read them.
-
Finally, a new page.
-
Now, get me off this damn page.
-
Perhaps if we had some help that might happen. But nooooo....
-
Welcome, 8,969 GUESTS!
-
If that isn't some kind of record, then I don't know what.
-
Do you realize what page we'd be on if each one of those GUESTS made one post?
-
That is a whole mess o' GUESTS.
-
A gaggle of GUESTS!
-
A large group of GUESTS.
-
No George.
-
No posts from 8,969 GUESTS.
-
That is just ridic.
-
George must have gone the way of all flesh to miss an entire day of posting and then not even showing up for the change of day.
-
New notes are up.
-
Up are new notes.
-
I've seen them.
-
I've read them.
-
I wrote them.
-
They are heavy with philosophy.
-
As you'll see.
-
HEAVY!
-
Deep.
-
Deeply deep.
-
How deep is the ocean?
-
How high is the sky?
-
I don't have the answer.
-
But I'd like some pie.
-
I'm gonna get us off this damn page, that much I can tell you and have told you.
-
I think we're not that far away.
-
When you're not far away, why stay?
-
See?
-
We made it to page eight.
-
Did George go on vacation?
-
Well, I suppose we'll find out what's what when we find out what's what.
