I just realized that when I was in the second grade I was channeling the as yet unborn DR FREDDIE.

We went to Newby Elementary School and some of the kids wrote a song:

Rah! Rah! For Newby that is our song.
Knowing our lessons and learning right from wrong.
And when it's recess we have lots of fun.
Newby! Yes Newby the school for everyone.

The teacher passed out copies of the song to all of us the next morning.

And by the end of first recess some friends and I had already rewritten sentiment.

Boo! Boo! For Newby that is our song.
Not knowing our lessons not learning right from wrong.
And when it's recess we have lots of work.
Newby! Yes Newby! The school for every jerk.

It seems to work well in a Tom Lehrer or Allan Sherman kind of way, doesn't it?

527 Guests to the HHW site on a Wednesday morning?  That's pretty good!

It's a quarter after ten here but I've already played a rehearsal, topped tank off with gas ($2.93, inching up little by little), shopped at Trader Joe's, and eaten a sandwich as I ketchup in here.

Also, I've been awake SINCE FREAKIN' FOUR IN THE FREAKIN' MORNING. Woke up and couldn't get back to sleep, so now I feel like a truck ran over me. And I've got stuff I must do. And I have another 7:30 am rehearsal tomorrow. And a concert in the evening. But after that, I'm truly done until ... (let me think) ... late June or the first week of July.

BK's veddy proper British experience takes me right back to the late 1970s when I discovered a Sunday morning radio show on KFAC-FM called "Cynic's Choice", hosted by the veddy British Brian Clewer.

It quickly grew on me, and I listened faithfully for quite a while. He played every kind of veddy British humor recording there was, so one got lots of Peter Sellers, Goon Show, Benny Hill, Hoffnung, et cetera et cetera et cetera.

He also extensively talked about (marketed) the Continental Shop in Santa Monica, which I think he owned or co-owned. I'm sorry to say I have no memory of ever going there to check it out.

I have yet to have a veddy proper Full English Breakfast. It looks like such a supremely satisfying meal, and I've wanted to for the longest time, but I know of no place around here to get one. I've thought that I'm probably best off gathering all the ingredients and planning to do it myself.

The pictures I see always have the bangers (sausages) but not the mash (mashed potatoes). Sometimes I see a fried type of potato, like hash browns or similar, but no mash. I wonder if "bangers and mash" is a separate dish apart from breakfast, and not a traditional part of breakfast.

I do know you need to find the right kind of veddy British sausage, and I'm told we do have a store near here that can supply those things.

HHW is up to 459 Guests - on just a regular Wednesday morning.

BK, do your statistics tell you what day's notes or which posting days those Guests are viewing?

I hope you get paid for your work DR ELMORE.

No, my request for a royalty was denied. All I can do is my best to see my work is properly cared for.

Here's the New York Times link on that story.

Thanks for this link! I thought the last couple of paragraphs were particularly interesting:

Quote
This fall’s production features another new book, by the screenwriter Danny Strong. The show will be directed by Michael Mayer, who directed Michele both in her breakout Broadway role, in “Spring Awakening,” and in “Funny Girl.”

Mayer and Strong, working with Rice, have been rethinking “Chess” for some time — they collaborated on a 2018 concert presentation of the musical at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington.

So another new book for Chess! I love the score but nobody has figured out the book yet. Maybe this will be the one?

Bangers and mash is indeed a different dish than a full English.
