Well, you've read the notes, the notes were up and running, and now it is time for you to post until the up and running cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: EFFORTLESS!
-
And now - Dino at the piano.
-
Looking forward to hearing about Into the Woods.
-
The stage managers for Evergreen Playhouse need to stay there until everyone leaves, but since people were staying late to clean up and take out the recycling tonight, I was able to leave earlier than I normally will during the run...otherwise, I won't get to leave when the show's over.
-
We got through the show without any major problem...a few lyric fumfers, but those have been there for a while (even after sending out lyric notes!) and unfortunately will stay there. ::)
-
Nothing major, just things like substituting "Straight through the woods" when they're supposed to sing "Into the woods."
-
A few lines permanently dropped...things like that...but again quite minor.
-
But otherwise, everyone has been doing quite well with their roles. The costumes are community theater, but certainly nicely done. :)
-
I just found this write-up about the show:
Evergreen Playhouse’s spring musical ‘Into the Woods’ opens Friday (https://www.chronline.com/stories/evergreen-playhouses-spring-musical-into-the-woods-opens-friday,381777)
;D
-
There are quite a few pictures in the article...none of me, but the article does list the entire cast and crew at the end!

Nice pre publicity DR GEORGE
-
I loved The Doomsday Flight....but then John Saxon is of course my pretend former husband....one of my first celebrity crushes.
-
Was anyone at the time more handsome?
-
Yes I am still awake at 4:10 a.m.
I suspect that the pair of keets and JB will be covered at this time.
-
Is anyone else awake?
-
I guess I will watch What's New Pussycat on ScreenPix.
-
Good morning, all!
-
The cats have been quite frisky this morning, beginning with Annabelle's hairball around 4:45. She's now lounging on the cart next to me.
-
DR Laura, I hope Asha is doing better after her vet visit.
-
Except for a brief we'll-get-back-to-you email, I have still not heard back from the people at Concord Theatricals. I went ahead and sent the band parts and orchestra scores for Dearest Enemy to the conductor, since they need to be ready for a June 9 performance. As to Concord, I now wait . . .
-
I am feeling a mite puny today, but I hope to finish off the A&T proof.
-
Our former DR Edisaurus posted this poem by Michael Joseph this morning on Facebook:
-
Good morning, all.

I have Anora and I'm Still Here to watch.

Thanks for checking in, DR vixmom.

Hope you continue to feel better and better.

I recognize Garrison Keillor, but I don't know who that other guy is.

Good morning, all.
-
I am almost disoriented, with no morning or even afternoon obligations. :)
Not only today, but for the next few weeks! Xfinity/Comcast is coming out Monday instead of today (I moved it) to check things over, and I have my teeth cleaning and checkup on Tuesday. After that, we'll see...
-
Today, rest and ketchup on many things.
And I have a lovely play to attend this evening:
The opening of Moon Over Buffalo directed by Diana Canova. It will be great to see it again, and to see her. Last time I saw her was the opening to her Moon Over Buffalo at the other theeder. That was great, but I just "know" the production at this theeder, as a whole, is going to be better in many ways.
-
Good morning I must go get ready for work
-
Vixmom, I know the pee-new-monia can take it out of a person. Take it easy when you can, and gain that strength back.

More health and strength vibes for vixmom!

Musically, the next thing on my calendar as of right now is playing Keyboard 2 in Evita which runs in July. Yesterday I was browsing through the part, and while I'm happy to finally have a production to participate in, the bizarre changes in the score that happened - I dunno, at least a decade ago? - are positively disheartening.
The best way to explain that is that, in general, some of Sir Andrew's musical style (probably some orchestration, too) that many of us loved in the original have been altered. Let me put it another way. They've been dumbed down. Made more ordinary. Is it the same show? Pretty much. Same score? Sure, except for the inclusion of a song apparently written for Madonna in the movie that, to my ears, doesn't sound in the least like the rest of the score. But of course people must have movie songs, just as in other shows, and everyone will adore it.
-
Here's a hilarious (to me) little text change I know from reading the score:
The macabre ending phrases are no longer sung/portrayed by embalmers. (The embalming of Eva Peron was actually a "thing" at the time.) Now they're mourners. I guess we can't have embalmers in a musical now. What is this world coming to?
-
A few weeks ago I was driving home late one night and tuned the car radio to a local station that's mostly classical with some jazz on weekend nights. The host had apparently just played some Frank Loesser song, and I suddenly heard him say "Arthur Loesser". I'd just tuned in and had missed what he was saying, but it sounded like his own former teacher had been a student of Loesser's. This guy is a locally known pianist, and that was obviously of interest to him. I've sent him a note asking what the whole story was. In the meantime, it got me going down the Loesser rabbit hole, and I've found a few more rare recordings of him I need to acquire. That's always fun and rewarding.
-
Hope you feel better, Elmore.
Thanks! I'm not mopving well today, so I will finish up the last two A&T chapters and lie down until I must get up.
-
I had to go to the basement with the garbage. I checked the washers since I lost a green tea towel on Wednesday. It was still in the washer, along with a pair of underwear. Oy!
-
Moving around vibes for DR Elmore!

Two nights in a row I have woken up with pain in my right eye so I called my eye doctor this morning. I got lucky and he had a cancellation this morning at 10:00. Fingers crossed I'm ok.
-
Sending eye appointment vibes, Jane!
-
Made an appointment at Walgreen's to get my second SHINGRIX shot tomorrow afternoon. Finally!
I'd fully intended to do it sooner (I'm still inside the six-month period since the first), but was way too damned busy to take a chance on having even a day or two of fatigue or any other reaction. I'll be very relieved to have it done at last.
No one in my family, to my knowledge, ever had shingles, and actually not even anyone close to me, but it's always been on my mind.

And my mom had shingles. She was very very tough. But it was awful for her. And a man at church had it in his eyes.
When we recorded Dearest Enemy in 2012 in Dublin, I had cast actor Stephen Rea as George Washington. When I got to Dublin, I learned he wanted to do the role but he was going through a dreadful session of shingles. I was prepared to cast and record the role in NYC, but he came in the last day of the recording sessions. He's a wonderful man.

Sh! As long as she doesn't know, the better for me.

Break a leg tonight, DR George!
-
Good morning! Last night's movie class was Heaven Can Wait, which I'd never seen before and much enjoyed. It was nice to have something more upbeat compared to most of the other movies we've been seeing.
Did the discussion include Here Comes Mr. Jordan?
Yes, and how Beatty had wanted to cast Ali in the lead role, but changed the character from a boxer to a football player when he was the lead.
-
The Farnsworth estate in Heaven Can Wait is Filoli, an authentic California industrialist estate about 20 miles away from us. Apparently the money received from letting them film there was used to restore the estate to the current wonderful park and gardens that is there now.
-
Asha is hanging on. I don't expect her to recover, though. We didn't get the blood results back. I picked up some moussed foods for her. She wasn't interested.
:(
-
Loretta Swit passed away :(
She was 87.
So sad to hear that.
-

I'm so sorry. I spend a quarter of my time hoping the cats die before I do, a quarter of my time hoping that, if I die before them, they live comfortably and safely till their time is up, and half my time trying not to think about either option.
I have pretty much accepted that Leonard will be my last cat. At least my last young cat. He is almost 7 now. If he lives another 8 years, I'll be too old for a young one.
-
We got Asha when she was 12. My friend's wife refused to take her along when they moved out of state. He really wanted to take her. He'd had her since she was a kitten.
She's been with my daughter for five years. That's more than we expected. She's been in good hands, which makes my friend happy.

LOL, I guess he didn't see himself as a boxer. I am glad he was the lead vs Ali. Thanks for that bit of information.

I like this.

I looked at photos of the beautiful Filoli estate.

Save a marriage without too much guilt, has to have been hard on your friend. I'm sure knowing Asha had a good, loving home has been a great comfort.
-
I'm up, I'm up - eight hours of sleep. Got up at eleven and had to get right to finishing watching the Drat video and noting fixes.
-
Breaking legs for opening night for George.
-
Once finished, I typed up the notes.
-
Only eight things to adjust.
-
Then I drove the hard drive to the editor who'll do the fixes.
-
It was an easy drive to deliver the hard drive.
-
Not the other way around.
-
Did I miss the post about George not having read the book?
-
Did I miss the post about Freddie or Skip not having read the book.
-
I've read the damn book.
-
Now I'm back home, I've answered all e-mails, and now I'll do a little writing.
-
After that, I'll relax for a few minutes then shave and shower.
-
After that, I shall be on my way to an early dinner.
-
After that, I shall be on my way home.
-
After that, I'll do more writing.
-
After that, I'll try to watch a motion picture.
-
Get me off this damn page.
-
After that, I'll write some damn notes.
-
After that, bed.
-
I think I've covered everything.
-
Everything likes to be covered. Just the way it is.
-
It’s weird not being the one having an op’nin’!
But I’m going to one, so it still kind of feels like it.
-
ChasSmith has read the book.
-
Jrand has read the book.
-
John Griffin has read the book.
-
Singdaw has read the book.
-
They've all written Amazon reviews.
-
I think that covers everything.
-
That's a lot of covers for everything.
-
Did I miss the post about Freddie or Skip not having read the book.
It's near the top of Skip's reading.
-
We did buy it, both Kindle and print.
-
I wrote something on Goodreads. Not much, but far more then I usually write after reading a book, if I say anything at all.
-
Keith got Wordle in four.
-
~~~OPENING NIGHT BREAK-A-LEG VIBES~~~ for DR George & Company!!!!
-
They've release a trailer for the Thursday Murder Club movie. Can't wait!
-
Also noticed that there will be a new Thursday Murder Club novel released in September this year.
-
Weren't we talking about Orange Chicken the other day?
-
Wags are saying the new Air Force One should be called Panda Express, due to the Orange Chicken on board.
TACO!
Lego sets are getting so realistic these days...
Minnesota's most expensive estate just went on the market. $55 million. 27,000 square feet.
Happy 60th Birthday, Joe Allen!
Ooh, that's very nice birthday news!
:) Maybe time to move on to PAGE 8!
EIGHT!
565 Guests on HHW on a Friday early evening!
Does anyone have any of the Vocalion quadrophonic CD remasterings?
CONGRATULATIONS on another great review, DR MichaelG!
-
I wonder how difficult it is to find tenors that can sing the title role of Othello? Isn't it supposed to be a very difficult role to sing?
-
They've release a trailer for the Thursday Murder Club movie. Can't wait!
Thanks. I'm going to watch it now.
-
It looks good.
-
Also noticed that there will be a new Thursday Murder Club novel released in September this year.
Now that there is a month on the release date I was able to request my library notify me when I can put a hold on it. Thank you for mentioning it.
LOL, cute :)
The house is only on eight acres, no room really for walking trails.
-
I wonder how difficult it is to find tenors that can sing the title role of Othello? Isn't it supposed to be a very difficult role to sing?
It's a very difficult role indeed. We usually get the up-and-coming professionals who want a professional role debut with the complete part, as we do everything (practically) uncut. Our Otello is John Kun Park who did Ismaele with us in Nabucco a few seasons ago.
-
Years ago we got fabulously lucky with our Turandot, Alexandra LoBianco, who has since gone on to sing in some of the most prominent opera stages in the USA and Europe. It's her birthday today - happy birthday Lexi!
-
Toi toi toi to George and company for opening night!
-
To answer DR Freddie's question, the house has 8 bedrooms & 18 bathrooms.
What a beauty!
-
Hello, everyone.
-
Freddie, What a One Percent World is one of my favorite parodies. Quite appropriate!
-
I can barely keep my eyes open right now.
-
But by bedtime tonight, I will be wide awake.
-
Oy.
-
I hope BK and DR John G. are getting writing accomplished.
-
Because being accomplished is an accomplishment.
-
Jane, glad your eye is OK. I have trouble with my right eye, too. You might want to try black currant seed oil. My eyes weren’t as dry after I started taking it.
-
But by bedtime tonight, I will be wide awake.
I am very familiar with that occurrence.
-
Well done, Michael G and company.
I've posted these links here, but with over 500 guests here, maybe some of them will click on some of these. (And as they used to say about reruns, if you haven't seen them, they're new to you. :) )
With the Tonys coming up, offering our annual parody video rundown salute to the 2024-25 season's Tony nominations - some things we didn't dare kid, but thought deserved musical comment anyway, other things it felt safe to kid.
Regarding the Anything Goes clip (that’s what turned up when I clicked), why is Jon Groff wearing a sweater while tapping? Tapping is as aerobic as you can get. Of course you’ll sweat!
-
Bruce, if you start tapping you won’t need Ozempic.
-
Hope you continue to feel better and better.
Ditto. (That’s for Vixmom.)
-
I am almost disoriented, with no morning or even afternoon obligations. :)
Not only today, but for the next few weeks! Xfinity/Comcast is coming out Monday instead of today (I moved it) to check things over, and I have my teeth cleaning and checkup on Tuesday. After that, we'll see...
What a coinkydink...I get my teeth cleaned next week, too. But my cleaning is on Thursday, not Tuesday.
Me, too! On Tuesday, like Chas.
-
We’ll have the cleanest teeth on the internet.
-
Hi Jeanne. I need to tell you about my discussion with the eye doctor and that gel stuff.
-
The gel based stuff is injected into the tear ducts. While it supposedly is more comfortable than plugs he has an issue with it. His only experience with them is when is needs to do the surgery required to remove them. He said it is not a pleasant surgery. I will pass and try the plugs.
-
My acupuncturist talked me into watching Younger. Sutton Foster plays a 40-something mother who can’t get a job in publishing because she’s too old. She pretends she’s a 20-something. I’m told it gets better. We shall see.
-
I hadn’t heard about the gel. My doctor only mentioned the plugs.
-
What a beauty!
I was glad to find a better photo of her as I too think she is a beauty.
-
Hope you find a solution you’re happy with.
-
Jane, glad your eye is OK. I have trouble with my right eye, too. You might want to try black currant seed oil. My eyes weren’t as dry after I started taking it.
Which brand?
I thought you were the one who mentioned the gel something to me-lol. It was a long time ago, and it was mentioned to you.
Thank you.
Vibes to all! And vibes too for a lovely weekend!
I thought it was gel drops that went in the tear ducts, something I am definately not doing now. The plus are easily removed if I don't like them.
Thanks regarding the black current. I read that it can lower your blood pressure, not something I want at all. I would have to watch that carefully.
My favorite eye drops are Thera tears bottle for both hydrating and ease of use,but they have preservatives, Ivizia for hydrating but a bit harder to dispense (doctor likes this one because no preservatives), Bausch & Lomb Soothe singles, and Thera Tears singles. Doc said I can use Ivizia as much as I want because there are no preservatives — no one had said that before,and some days I need 4 to 5 doses. More than that before the black currant seed oil.
Very sorry, DR Laura, on your loss.
I think we may be in the market for a new vacuum cleaner. On our current one, the rollers have stopped rotating. It still has suction, but...
-
I still have a Consumer Reports membership, so perhaps I'll do a little research.
-
But first...
-
One more...
-
PAGE ELEVEN.
-
That's what I'm talking about.
-
Good night, friends.
-
And others.
-
Back from a deliciously delicious dinner at the Smokehouse. Had the filet, which was the best it's ever been, and a baked potato with way too much butter. Tough. It was grand. Instead of clam chowder I had the French onion soup - it, too, was great.
-
I am mucho grande full.
-
Congrats to MichaelG for the raves.
-
Hopefully, George will refresh himself and write a review. This is why I always recommend doing it as soon as the book is finished, while it's fresh.
-
Page eleven is a fine page.
-
No arguments from me about page eleven.
-
Because it's a fine page.
-
A page to be reckoned with.
-
You don't mess around with page eleven.
-
And now - back to writing and then I'll see about a movie.
-
I hope BK and DR John G. are getting writing accomplished.
I went dancing tonight.
-
So sorry for your loss, Laura.
-
I’m facing s 13-hour work day tomorrow.
-
So, I must hit the hay.
-
Good night, all.
-
So sorry for your loss, DR Laura.
-
Perhaps DR Rodzinski will weigh in on the matter of embalmers in musical theeder and opera. :)
When I read your note the first thing I thought is doing an expose on this in our pages. I mean, when I was a kid I read about how her embalming was such a huge, involved deal, her body was preserved for years. It’s a cool bit of history. Why dumb that down?
-
All caught up. So sorry to hear your news DR Laura.
-
Another opening and another show for George!
-
Quite a robust day of posting!
-
Eye vibes to Jane!
-
JRand, that 2nd vixmom photo was Penn of Penn and Teller.
-
Loretta Swit played that hard character so well, it sometimes shocked me when I’d see a still photo or when in the later years of the show, she softened and I realized what a beauty she was.
-
Also from interviews I’ve watched, a very sweet soul.
-
Had a nice moment today. I profiled Richard Moylan in our latest issue, retiring after 40 years as president of Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn.
He wrote me personally today to say how much he loved the article.
-
He made sure to note he usually finds fault with things, but nothing in my piece.
-
Also a Dutch guy I interviewed about his cremation metal recycling company was equally over the moon about my profile.
-
Begs the question what am I doing with my life?
-
I swear a famous musician has died almost every day this year.
-
Page 12, by the way.
-
Roger Nichols, loved a lot of his songs with Paul Williams.
-
“Waking up Alone” is a great one.
-
I saw Ann’s name up at the top the other night, but not sure if she posted. Or I may have hallucinated it. I was up working until 2am last night.
-
Why am I awake now?
-
I’d love to get a couple cats, but the goodbyes are so hard.
-
Just said goodbye to my neighbor who moved out. A year ago she and her husband were enjoying the retired life. They went to their Pender Island timeshare, he had a stroke and has never returned. She had to sell and it was a nightmare for her going through all their stuff. I helped her wipe/destroy like a dozen computers he’d kept. He had like 20 bank accounts she didn’t know about. Anyway… nice Kiwi lady. She’s moved to be closer to his care facility.
-
Met the new neighbors briefly. Nice enough. Canadian but lived in Warsaw, Indiana for a time.
-
As you all know, Warsaw is the prosthetic limb capital of the world.
-
Before Herb Alpert suggested Roger Nichols pair off with Paul Williams, Roger had an album under the name The Small Circle of Friends on A&M. Highly sought after record these days.
-
We now are on the final day of May.
-
Condolences to dear reader Laura.
-
New notes are up.
-
Up are new notes.
-
I've seen them.
-
I've read them.
-
I wrote them.
-
Some interesting bits of tid in them.
