Well, you've read the notes, the notes died hard, and now it is time for you to post until the die hard cows come home - they're currently in London with a girl.
-
And the word of the day is: JACKPOT!

And now - Dino at the piano.

Good morning, all!
-
It was a ghastly, terrible, god-awful. horrible night. I probably need a really good massage, which I cannot afford, because that pinched nerve affecting my left hand and arm is getting worse. As a consequence, I spent too much time turning and shifting in efforts to find a position where the pinching would cease and the pains in my arm and hand would withdraw It was made worse because Annabelle and Thatch had taken half the bed. I am not happy at the moment.
-
And I am very sleepy.
-
TOD:
One time when it was really terrible, in 1994 or so after a meal in the East Village, it was before the internet was really part of day-to-day life, so it wasn't easy to look up symptoms and such. But it was so terrible, the [to use a polite term] upchucking so violent, that I even recall what we were doing that day.

I sent the uncorrected recording parts and full scores for Dearest Enemy to Concord Theatricals. I don't know if the corrected materials I prepared in 2014 are with the Miami University Library or somewhere in the ruins of the Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization, but these days, with my health and mobility, I cannot worry about the mess.
So, I'm going through my recording scores and creating an errata list. As soon as I've finished it - maybe tomorrow? - I can watch Drat! The Cat!
-
I agree DR ELMORE - not your job.
-
Did I forget to say last night that MR BK's chicken was maybe made by Bluto.

Hmmmm....I know I've had a few cases of it......I shall ponder that

Good morning, all.
-
I needed more sleep this morning, but we have an Xfinity guy or gal coming out this morning (because I had to phone in an outage two days in a row and the system generated the service call to check things out), and of course I had to get up to feed the tiger anyway.
-
Once that person has been in and out of here, I can watch DRAT! THE CAT! -- then I go down to Walgreen's for my second shingles shot. If there isn't sufficient time between the two, I'll watch as soon as I get back from being jabbed.
-
Sleep Ketchup and Feel Better vibes for DR Elmore.
-
Chas, congratulations on your new HHW millstone of 38,000 posts!
-
Last night's Waitress was absolutely wonderful. I saw the Broadway (not live -- via the Fathom event at my local AMC), and I've seen a couple of bootlegs, but as fine as Sara Bareilles and the others have been, I ended up liking this production better. They dispensed with the band moving in and out on a platform thing, which always seemed a bit gratuitous to me. The set design here and the cast themselves were absolutely tops. Great theeder, too -- about 190 seats, modern, comfortable -- and in true Broadway tradition, restrooms that could reasonably handle an audience of about ten, not 190. Mindboggling.
-
Chas, congratulations on your new HHW millstone of 38,000 posts!
Thanks. I never even saw it go by! I never think to look at those.
-
Notes accommodated. Suffused.

TOD: Fred, is there still a sushi place on the west side of 9th Ave between 43/44th? Where Circus Bar once was? They poisoned me once and I walked by the next day and there was a sign saying it had been closed by the health dept. But people were still sitting inside eating!! It was the craziest thing.
-
I loved Drat! The Cat!
Perfectly cast. I really loved the two leads and their acting and singing together and apart.
The Keystone Cops were funny.....the older couple were great!
I think my favorite scenes were the party, when Purefoy got arrested & tried, and the lovely ballad by the leading lady. But it was all great.
-
Spillover alert:
I had to go back and watch a couple scenes. I was taken aback when Matilda was called an “old bag” in the courtroom, for my first viewing I thought she’d sort of reformed and was going to be a more attentive and firm parent.
On second viewing, she was still mostly concerned with the family’s image and was happy to see Bob take the fall. So the harsh rebuke makes more sense. I am at peace.
-
Good to know.

Hmm, I guess I can see that sharing even the personal pan size pizza (the site says 590 calories with no extra toppings) can be enough, such as if there are other courses in the meal - or also if there are certain toppings adding calories, like maybe extra cheese, or sausage or pepperoni -
or maybe having one of the more caloric sauces like I suspect the barbecue sauce might be (than the basic marinara)

From DR George:
Michael, I've wanted to ask...are your leads professionals that are brought in just for individual shows, or are they local people who are just really good?
Each show is cast individually. All the leads are professionals, usually but not always from out of town. In this production, Otello is based in Virginia, Desdemona in LA, and Iago in Santa Rosa (so semi-local). We have volunteers to provide much of the housing for out of town singers. The smaller roles of Emilia and Ludovico were cast with local professionals. The small comprimario roles like Montano are usually local professionals or semi-professionals. And a bit part like the Herald is cast out of the chorus.

Leonard was a good boy. His teeth checked out fine. No problems. But since we have already run up a hefty bill, I had them go ahead and draw bloodwork.
Sassy's cat will get her teeth cleaned. It's not really necessary NOW, but why wait until it's really bad.

I was on a clipper ship cruise when I ate some mussels that most definitely did not agree with me. Add a little alcohol and the eternal rocking of the ship, and you have a recipe for nasty, nasty, nasty.
I also had several other occasions where mussels and I faced off, with me on the losing side.
Lesson finally learned: I no longer eat mussels.

Bruce, I told Keith about your review of Cleaner today so that we avoid it. It currently has a 5.1 rating on IMBD.
-
After taking left over fried chicken in high school for lunch, and getting sick every time, I stopped taking it, and pretty much stopped eating it. I wasn't terribly sick and wouldn't say it was food poisoning.
-
Man I could eat left over fried chicken every day and not get sick. Might not exactly get well, but I wouldn’t get sick!
-
We (my siblings and I) always got sick on vacations. My mom gave me Pepto too late once at a Sambo’s in Kentucky and I remember raining pink right onto the tiger’s face on the welcome mat outside.
-
Then my kind sisters wrote a song about it in the car, with choreography and everything. Sweet girls.
-
Then there was the legendary time in Jackson Hole where I had it coming out both ends, and my mom was holding a Karmelkorn bucket to catch the vomit while whatever else was happening on the backside, and one of my sisters barges in and sees this scene she’s never forgotten nor let me forget. At least there were no cellphones back then.
-
You bots getting all this?

I'm guessing it was in my lunch bag too long before I ate it.

Food often makes me sick though not as much back then as it has in the last 30 years.

I'm up, I'm up - eight hours of sleep.
-
Woke up at eleven-thirty. I got to bed late because I watched The Accountant 2, which just showed up for free on Prime. Not very good.
-
Had penne with Eyetalian sausage bits from Maria's Kitchen for food. Very good.
-
Answered a ton of e-mails.
-
So happy to hear the Drat comments.
-
More than any cast I've worked with, every one of these actors truly embraced the JEF.
-
Trying to decide whether to write now or a bit later. Thinking the latter.

Because I'm mad as a hatter.

And I do love to flatter.

Or be the next batter.

I mustn't get fatter.
-
Does it really matter?
-
Soon I'll be writing some patter.
-
If you tell anyone you'll be a ratter.
-
Though time may tatter.
-
And that's enough of that.
-
I'm heading towards a nice new number and a big one at that.

I could get there today, depending on how much writing I get done.

I am back from the jab and an excellent slice of meat lover's pizza at Stew Leonard's, and am taking a brief intermission between acts of Drat! - which is delightful.

I watched "Drat..." twice and loved it. It brought back nice memories of seeing it in person (one memory that was different was that the leads didn't kiss because one of them was getting over a cold (as BK mentioned)).

Good afternoon.
-
We went to a Cat Cafe, where you pay to be in a room full of cats.
-
All of the cats are up for adoption. We had planned to go before we lost Asha. Aunt Sassy did not get a cat. She had not planned on getting one.
-
Several cats were on the shelves by the ceiling. Because they weren't having it today.
-
There was a nice calico. But I would have brought home the white cat with tabby splotches. He had sad eyes. Not that he was sad, it was just his features.
-
Then we had lunch at Baja Fresh, using a forgotten gift card that I found cleaning out Sassy's old room.
-
Finished Drat!
Truly wonderful. Lloyd Pedersen and Constance Mellors are the absolute bomb. Sydney, it goes without saying. Everyone was great, and exactly what they needed to be.

Saw the preview for Kiss of the Spider Woman. They don’t hide that it’s a musical. J-Lo sounds great. Some hope for it.

They don’t hide that it’s a musical.
That was what struck me immediately as well.
-
Just found out that I got approved off work for Dec 24 and Dec 26.
-
(We can't request vacation more than 6 months ahead)
-
Kiss of the Spider Woman is not a show/film/score I am familiar with. I don't know why, exactly. I love Kander & Ebb.
-
Now that I think of it, I may have seen the original (non musical) film when it first appeared.
-
But that was lo many years ago.
-
Glad Leonard checked out fine.

Wishing no side effects for DR ChasSmith.

I'm fading.

Only 3? Four is what I scored.

People who would be adverse to it as a musical are not likely to be into the general milieu of the original story to begin with. My guess.
-
Today was a somewhat better excuse for a day than was yesterday!
I began my day with a drive to Aiken to have my blood drawn for an appointment next week. I hurried home after to get lunch at The Triangle because today was fried cubed steak day. I complemented it with smashed taters and crowder peas and washed it down with a large unsweetened iced tea.
This afternoon, I treated myself to a viewing of "Murder by Decree" with Christopher Plummer, James Mason and a host of British film royalty. Beautiful cast, strong production but a weakish script that meanders along to a not-too-convincing showdown between Sherlock Holmes and a triumvirate of Prime Minister, Home Secretary and Head of Scotland Yard. It wasn't a waste of my time, but it might have been so much better. Directed, surprisingly, by Bob Clark, of "A Christmas Story" fame.
I continued my splurge into back episodes of "Haven". Honestly, I find I am familiar with all the characters but seemed never to have paid the slightest attention to story lines when I first saw it! That's pretty good, actually, because I am quite enjoying them now...but still wondering what the heck I thought I was watching when I watched them when first aired.
Today has felt like Friday all day, but I do know that's tomorrow (actually, here in South Carolina, it's now "today" as it's a quarter past midnight).
Who knows what merriment awaits me??!!
-
Back from our last film class of the term. Tonight was Kramer vs. Kramer. This is my first time watching it since it came out and I'm still a fan.
-
It was really fun seeing Dustin Hoffman in this after seeing him in Straight Time two weeks ago. And it was great to see Meryl Streep in her youth again.
-
Apparently in the final class the tradition is for the class to vote for our favorites. First you pick the top 3 (out of 10 in this class), then the top 2 of 3, then the favorite of the final 2. He says he's done two rounds of voting vs. three in the past but thinks the results are better with the three rounds.
-
I think we disappointed him that after showing us all these hard-hitting 70s movies like Taxi Driver, Death Wish, and Straight Time, our favorite was Paper Moon.
-
Kramer vs. Kramer was runner up, and Taxi Driver was 3rd.
-
I'm looking forward to taking more classes with him in future terms. I may not be able to do next term due to conflicts (missing 2 of 7 movies in summer term seems a bit much), but hopefully the fall term will work out.
-
Believe it or not, I've never seen Kramer vs. Kramer. Why is that? Or Ordinary People. Why is that?
-
Site is misbehaving.
-
I have never heard of a Cat Cafe - but I don't get out much.
-
Just alerted the hosting company.
-
Posts taking forever or not going through at al.
-
That one took twenty seconds. Host just texted - he just got back in town and will check on things once he's in his Uber.

Point being, we may be down for a bit.

In fact, we just were.
-
Tired of it.
-
Really tired of it.
-
Well, won't reach a new plateau tonight.
-
And the Pacers win the first playoff game - by one point with a shot at .03 seconds.
-
Finished with my viewing.
-
So happy reading all these nice Drat comments. My happy place is taking a musical that ran two hours and forty minutes on Broadway and getting it to run one hour and forty-five minutes and just under two hours WITH the intermission, without cutting a single word of the show.
-
I think they fixed it.
-
Maybe not.
-
Still seems laggy to me.
-
My postings are a bit laggy as well....but they go through in a few seconds.
-
2 hours and 40 minutes? Yikes. What “fat” would you say you trimmed? You left the dialogue but were there big dance sequences? Or was it strictly a matter of pacing?
-
Another incredible Pacers win Mr JRand! I was absolutely shocked when I saw the final score.
-
Mrs R returns to us tomorrow, ending a long work trip. I’ll spend the morning trying to put away the stuffed animals that are strewn everywhere.
