Well, you've read the notes, the notes had both highlights and lowlights and perhaps even one medium light, and now it is time for you to post until the high, low, and medium cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: FAVONIAN!
-
Good morning, all!
-
I had a so-so night of sleep with too many bathroom breaks. The cats behaved, which is good, but between the aches n the knee and hip joints and the neuropathy in my feet, I was awake too much of the night.
-
Today, I will continue with my current job, which is to orchestrate three cues from the 1925 piano score for The Phantom of the Opera, for a centennial showing. I've got around 60 bars to score of the piece I'm currently scoring.
-
My only other news is that the kindle, audio book, and paper edition of Annabelle & Thatch are in their final prep stage. I'm so proud of Jeremy Clayton's work on the book. Here are three of his illustrations.
-
Good morning.
-
Leonard decided it was time to get up at 3 a.m.
-
Last night I finished watching Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich. There was much I did not know, the documentary is disturbing, and the man was truly a monster.
-
Leonard decided it was time to get up at 3 a.m.
Photos! We want photos! And the new baby as well. Mimosa?
-
Beautiful preview of the book, Larry! Wishing you great success!
-
Mimosa was her shelter name. Her permanent name is Snowdrop.
I think the family is coming over today. Snowdrop may come, too. Grandson will like that. I'll see if I can get a picture.
-
Did your kitties have shelter names that you changed, Elmore? I seem to remember that Annabelle and Thatch were their shelter names, but Stella wasn't.

Two words. No, make that five words.

Very nice!
A photo would be great!
-
Good morning, friends.
-
And others.
-
Those illustrations are simply wonderful, DR elmore3003!
-
I do hope there will be some photos, DR Laura.
-
DR elmore3003, is the plan to have a live orchestra play the score for a screening?
-
I saw the pre-Broadway tour of Ballroom at the Stratford Shakespeare Theater in Connecticut. Thoroughly enjoyed it. "The Job Interview" was still in the score at that time.
-
Did your kitties have shelter names that you changed, Elmore? I seem to remember that Annabelle and Thatch were their shelter names, but Stella wasn't.
Yes, I kept their shelter names. I did change Stella's name; it was Pinot Noir. Oy!

TOD (a partial list)
Gidget Grows Up (the United Nations one with Karen Valentine)
Crowhaven Farm

Brian's Song
The Longest Night (this was somewhat grisly based in a true life crime, but I recall it was really well done)
The Immortal
-
DR elmore3003, is the plan to have a live orchestra play the score for a screening?
Yes. The screening is in Akron, Ohio, I think, and the orchestra will be the same as it was for that theatre in 1925, sixteen players.
-
;)
-
Texas pie.
-
We always gave our fosters names, just to keep track of them. But they never went back to the shelter with them. They just had numbers.
-
I've been thinking of contacting the Humane Society about fostering -- like kitties that are sick and need meds. That would be short-term.
-
Well, I think I've slept for thirty minutes - don't know what's going on with me, but this cannot continue. I thought I was done with the gunk, but not tonight, Josephine. I also think the crab cakes were tainted, which is also part of the problem - very nauseous.
-
I also think my allergies are an issue right now, despite taking the Claritin-D.
-
Bad.
-
Good healthy sleep vibes!
-
I woke up way too early, but it was a very weird night. The first night in a week with windows open, and it wasn't QUITE cool enough do that comfortably, but I wasn't going to relent and I got through it okay. It was just weird. The overnight lows starting tonight will definitely not be cool enough, but the breeze from my small fan* will suffice.
*Said fan was still at the venue for the show, where I use it in the orchestra tent. But we close tonight and it comes home.
-
DR Elmore, that is a VERY exciting musical project.
I haven't watched the 1925 Phantom in a long time, and I will check this myself later, but I'm wondering if that piano score is played on any of the DVDs/Blu-rays I have here. I've become very interested in the silent movie era itself these past several years, and certainly in the scores written for them. Keep us informed!
-
This is a little unusual, but today they're having a cast party from 3:00 to 5:00 pm PRIOR to the closing performance at 8:00, at a very popular local restaurant oft frequented by theeder people -- https://www.rosytomorrows.com, in case anyone who's been in this area is familiar with it.
They do some things a little differently at this theeder, but there are always kids and other younger people involved -- and being outdoors, all shows are at night -- so these days they tend to avoid the late night bash that's more the fashion elsewhere.
-
P.S. -
Good morning, all.
-
What thrilling illustrations!
-
Tonight is our closing night and I'm fine with that.
I hope we have a responsive audience. So far last Wednesday was our best....
The weather report has changed and the severe weather seems to be north of us now...although a bit of rain may strike at 6 p.m. or so. Time will tell.
-
What thrilling illustrations!
They sure are. And it's going to be amazing to actually hold this book one of these days!
-
There is a pesky fly in the house. It has a target on its back and I soon shall make it join the choir invisible.
-
Good morning, all.
-
So excited for you, Elmore. Can't wait to get a copy.
-

They are indeed.

You and me both. I loved finally having a chance to play this show, and for local theeder this production is top notch, but it's time to say "Good Night and Thank You".
-
I'm headed for the hills today. Going to a winery in Comfort, which is the town that installed its own evacuation alarm system and lost no one to the floods.

That's an interesting question. I know Carl Davis composed new scores for several silent films, including - I believe - The Student Prince, which I love, and Ben-Hur.

I honestly cannot remember that many TV movies. The one I've a;ways wanted to see is Look Homeward Angel, and it's never turned up. I really love the original Pulitzer-winning play by Ketti Frings.
I loved The Night Stalker.
-
DR Jrand74, what are you using for your music in the play?

DR ELMORE because we have licenses from both ASCAP & BMI we can use music during scene changes....
I am using some general music to open.....a karaoke track of Not Getting Married Today for one, a couple of tracks from Joe vs. the Volcano, and I can't remember the other titles....some nice piano solos. An instrumental version of "Friendship" after the two women try to sabotage the dating life of the third....etc.
Most of it plays for a minute or less during a scene change. I have some music for Preshow and Intermission - just general stuff that you and I would recognize, but is probably unknown to most folks under 30.
Oh, and an instrumental version of To Life when they are on there way to the wedding...and come home drunk.
-
Lots of nice comments on Facebook from folks who have attended, and indeed it is the word of mouth that is building our audiences.
-
TOD:
It's sentimental crap, but I love Always Remember I Love You (1990) with Patty Duke. Always makes me cry at the end.

I'm headed for the hills today. Going to a winery in Comfort, which is the town that installed its own evacuation alarm system and lost no one to the floods.
Good for them for having done the right thing before the floods. It is shocking that every town in the flood zone did not have an alarm system.

Playmates directed by Theodore J. Flicker
Alan Alda and his ex Barbara Feldon get mixed up with Doug McClure and his ex Connie Stevens.....hilarity ensues.
-
Just watched a good ABC tv movie from 1975. A Cry For Help starring Robert Culp as a nasty morning deejay who regrets being mean to a suicidal caller. Everyone in LA works together to find her. For Culp maximalists.
Music by Gil Melle.

Playmates directed by Theodore J. Flicker
Alan Alda and his ex Barbara Feldon get mixed up with Doug McClure and his ex Connie Stevens.....hilarity ensues.
Theo Flicker was also behind the camera for Culp in The Last of the Good Guys.
-
Alan tries to turn Connie on to culture.
Alan: Did you like the play?
Connie: One girl came on and said 'I'm forbidden to love my father' and a guy come on and said 'I'm forbidden to love my sister'. All I could think was I'm forbidden to leave this theatre.
And Barbara ends up painting a nude picture of Doug - it's a good thing he had at least one big hand.

The illustrations are really fun and like everyone else, am looking forward to the book.
-
Enter page four.
-
Or to put it another way - page four has entered.
-
Tummy feels a bit better.
-
George never showed up - not even this morning.
-
And how about the apple pan dowdy or the apple brown betty?
-
I don't even know what those are.
-
They must have gone the way of the dodo bird.
-
Did your toilet seat come with soft cheese? Accept no cheap substitutes!!
Is it a typo, or is there really such a product?
-
I see this in the Urban Dictionary.
Toilet Cheese
The substance that builds up on the underside of the toilet seat and the part of the toilet bowl thats covered by the toilet seat.
-
Soon HHW will be the most educational site on the internet.
-
Does it count as education if a little part of my brain dies?
-
I don't think so.
-
;D
-
Perhaps they meant "soft close"?
-
John Llewellyn Moxey was a very good director - I think there are four of his ABC Movies on YouTube in that list. Same with Robert Day, who I worked with on the TV show Ghost Story.
-
I'll shower in about thirty minutes.
-
Does it count as education if a little part of my brain dies?

Perhaps they meant "soft close"?
Absolutely this is what they meant.
-
Does it count as education if a little part of my brain dies?
:)
-
That discussion took up almost a third of a page. And that's what really counts. :)
-
Perhaps they meant "soft close"?
Wait, you soften your clothes in the toilet? :)
almost a very bad Groucho routine
-
Does it count as education if a little part of my brain dies?
I think it was Sondheim who said:
"Every day a little dies.
In the heart and in the head."
-
Soft close sounds right.
-
Mr. Robert Day was also Mr. Dorothy Provine.
-
Debralee Scott was one of my favorite panelists on THE MATCH GAME.
She should have been made a regular!

Oh....that's not her best episode.
Look around YOUTube if you are so inclined.
-

Looks that way!
-
BK, did you ever work with E.W. Swackhamer?
-
Here's a book to avoid. I always start with the shows I know. He can't even get the names straight on the characters in Jubilee, a show I know inside out. This is as bad as that Rodgers & Hart book where he can't get information on Dearest Enemy and Chee-Chee right.
-
Mr. Robert Day was also Mr. Dorothy Provine.
Mr Clarence Day wrote the stories Life with Father.

This is not like DR George! I hope he's okay.

Saturday evening greetings! I’ve been to 2 book discussions since my last post here.
Thursday evening my local AAUW friends met to discuss Ina Garten’s memoir. Our hostess baked Ina’s brownie recipe for us and the consensus was - NO.
This morning I Zoomed with statewide AAUW friends to discuss The Women by Kristen Hannah. While the story is an important one to tell, I wish it weren’t so soap opera-ish.
-
Good afternoon.

Everyone had a swell time. Except Leonard. He was not impressed.

I never worked with Swackie. I did work with his wife, though - Bridget Hanley.

Yesterday was a day! My mom's youngest half-brother (same father, all my mom's other siblings had the same mother but different fathers) is visiting until next Friday.
-
Rehearsal's done and I've ordered fried catfish for food, even though I'm still a little nauseous. Nothing else sounded good to me.

Did George JUST show up?

Here they are together:
-
Where have you been?
-
Did George JUST show up?
Why, yes, I did!

So some years ago or so, my parents bought 10 acres of undeveloped property in the Rochester, WA area, about 15 miles south of where they lived (my mom still lives in the same house).
-
I haven't gone down there in more than 20 years, so I barely remember where it is, at all.
-
We were talking on Wednesday (I think) and the subject of the land came up, so eventually mom said that she'd take us there to show her brother, and I would get a reminder visit.

I didn't take many pictures, but here's one:
-
Where have you been?
He already told us-having fun with his family ;D
-
And here's another:
-
If we had been able to go further down the hill, we would've gotten to the creek, but there was no easy path.
-
Around the property, I saw a lot of this kind of plant:
-
Here they are together:

Thanks, Jane!
-
I drove and here's where we parked:
Pretty.
-
I saw this thistle plant with bumble bees on it!
-
I didn't take many pictures, but here's one:
Are you tempted to build a home in that lovely spot ;D
-
The color was very vibrant, and just watching the bees was really cool.
-
Nice photos George. You should plan a picnic on the property by the creek. Of course you would need to make a path down to the creek first.

That was my mom's original idea 30 years ago, but it never happened and would be sooo expensive now. :-\
-
For a while, we walked around where we could go and chatted and just enjoyed the moment (in the woods ;) )
-
Nice photos George. You should plan a picnic on the property by the creek. Of course you would need to make a path down to the creek first.
I was actually thinking that we could just have a picnic there.
-
I don't think the creek has an actual bank to walk on or even near. I think it might just be an area that has some water, but no real defined area...but I don't know for sure.
-
Anyway as we were leaving, I saw this on the way up to the road:
-
Just had to share. ;D
-
After walking around and meeting and chatting with the neighbor who lives just on the other side of the road from mom's, property, we all came back to mom's house and played two games of Phase 10.
-
I WON BOTH GAMES! :D

Who'da thunk it??

Today, the family met at my sister's house for a barbecue.
-
I had a burger, and some people had steaks that my mom got from QVC (but everyone loved them), and my friend Shelly made shrimp on skewers, and we had baked potatoes and a few other things.
-
My uncle made a cake (DON'T READ THIS, JANE!) with hazelnuts and chocolate shavings in the batter, and covered in melted chocolate.
-
Here's a picture of that:
-
My sister just sent me this picture of me cooking:
-
And this picture of my baked potato:
-
And finally, the shrimp skewers:
-
Those are all the pictures that I have. :)
-
And now, I need to head downtown to usher (and actually see) a local production of Rent. ;D
-
That cake looks better than Ina’s brownies, and I’m not particularly fond of hazelnuts.
-
It's a long show, but I WILL be back before the day ends! ;)

And now, I'm off!
Be back later!
-
That looks wonderful, George. And you have a pollinator garden!
-
Our veggie box had several bags of cherries in it this time. That's a first. I have a lot to do tomorrow morning, so I'm baking some cherry loaves at the moment.
-
We got way too many mangos today. My DIL took a bunch of them. But I still have so many left. I will probably make mango loaves tomorrow morning, when my mini-loaf pans are free.
-
What would ya'll think of cherry mango muffins? Yes? No?

One time I made zucchini carrot mango muffins, I think. I used up what I had.

DR GEORGE that's a great story and lovely pictures!
Thanks for sharing.
I liked the potato and shrimp photos as well except now I am hungry.

Well the final performance of The Cemetery Club is on the boards headed for intermission.
A very nice crowd - the cast is sad to move along....and it has been a lot of fun. And each of them did meet my expectations.
So I await the news to see if we get SEVEN standing ovations in seven performances....I shall know in 90 minutes are so.
-
During the curtain speech we ask everyone to silence or turn off their electronics.
A man raised his hand and asked: "I have pacemaker - do I have to turn that off?"
So I said: "No - as long as you don't use it to make a phone call or take a photograph."
The audience thought it was most amusing. I felt like MR BK.

I drove through a tiny area that had been impacted by the flooding. Trees were knocked down and each fence post on both sides of the road was covered in debris. The water was higher than normal, but it wasn’t moving faster than normal.
-
Still there were emergency vehicles all along the interstate from San Antonio to Comfort. Helicopters were flying overhead. And there were safety teams at the one bridge I crossed that had flooded.
-
And I was in a less-affected spot.
-
Here’s the view from the bridge, which had been buried under water.
-
Some accumulated debris

I doing a monologue.
-
Must get stuff done.
-
But why?
-
Lovely story and photos, DR George.
-
I really can't get my mind around the damage and destruction in Texas.
-
Here is an apple pandowdy:
-
And here is an apple brown Betty
-
Which seems to have more of an oat-based topping.
-
The "cookout" turned out to be rather fancy.
-
It was a double birthday party.
-
For dessert, there were 3 options.
-
First, individual chocolate mousses topped with homemade chocolate whipped cream.
-
Second, this cake:

Here is the information about that one:

Thirdly, there was this option:

And here are the birthday boys, Larry and Kevin:
-
And last, but not least - and not related - here is my friend's dog, Yogi.
-
Lovely story and photos, DR George.
Indeed. Thanks for sharing both.
-
Friends of mine just got back from a hiking trip in Banff.
-
However, they did not encounter the Banff squirrel.
-
How do you make a water bed more bouncy?
-
Use spring water.
-
:)
-
Good night, friends.
-
And others.
-
Kransekage looks wonderful.
-
Finished with my viewing - an ABC Movie of the Week. Great cast, mediocre script, good direction, great score.
-
Fried catfish - best it's ever been and it's always excellent. Instead of two potato salads for sides, I got one and some baked beans.
-
The baked beans were amazing.
-
Now I'm having the potato salad.
-
Also had bought some biscotti and I had four of those - they're half the size of normal biscotti - very good, though.
-
Voice is in okay shape this evening.
-
That's a good thing.
-
So is page nine.
-
But we won't stop there, will we?
-
We will NOT.
-
Nothing can stop us now.
-
We're going for the damn gold.
-
Mark my words.
-
Not much else to report. I did doze off for about ten minutes.
-
I'll try to get to bed early tonight.
-
And I don't care who knows it or even who nose it.
-
See?
-
Don't say I didn't tell you so.
-
Enter page ten.
-
Page ten is always welcome.
-
Always and forever - like CATS.
-
Well, in a little while, just a little while, you and I will be one, two, three for in a little while just a little while - hold on here, what am I, Once Upon a Mattress all of a sudden?
-
It was a pleasant Saturday.
-
Not bad at all.
-
I haven't once had to expectorate a glob of gunk.
-
I've got high hopes.
-
High apple pie in the sky hopes.
-
Glad to hear food is tasting good again today, BK!
-
Congratulations on all the fine performances this weekend.
-
Thanks to all for sharing their lovely food and scenery pictures.
-
Tonight I saw The Birds for the first time as the closing picture in the theater's Hitchcock Festival. I can't imagine having seen this as a kid or teenager, I would have had such nightmares. It was plenty scary even now.
-
The Tippi Hedren virtual double-bill (Marnie on Wednesday, The Birds today) was a great success.
-
Now it's back to one film a week with film class, though we are skipping next week. The Stanford Theatre's next set of films isn't as appealing to me, plus I'll be very busy with Cabrillo Festival after this coming week.
-
And then we start Samson et Dalila music rehearsals in about 3 weeks.
-
Good night all.
-
Today, I will continue with my current job, which is to orchestrate three cues from the 1925 piano score for The Phantom of the Opera, for a centennial showing. I've got around 60 bars to score of the piece I'm currently scoring.
That's really cool, Larry!
-
Tonight's performance of Rent is over and the show, even though it's now a period piece, is still very good.
-
Most of the performers were really good...no one embarrassed themselves at all, but the Mimi, Angel and Benny weren't as good as the rest. ::)
-
I got to see a couple iof theater friends who were in the show, and several theater friends who were in tonight's audience, so that was fun.
-
And now, I'll head home and ketchup on today's posts.
-
A cornucopia of posts!
-
Today the fam made good on my Father’s Day gift which was family tickets to see the BC Lions against the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Canadian football league teams.
-
The hometown Lions did not fare well, but a good time was had by all.
-
The game has some key differences from NFL style of play.
-
Let’s wrap this page.
-
Page 11!
-
Leo the Lion is the costumed mascot and he came out in papal gear as “Pope Leo” firing the T-shirt cannon. It might not have played in the U.S., but the crowd loved it.
-
Not as much as the “Kiss Cam” moment where they recreated and parodied recent events with a Lions fan and Saskatchewan fan pretending to be caught on camera and hiding in embarrassment and shame. Well done.
-
New notes are written.
-
I did see The Birds the day it opened. I loved every second of it and saw it many times thereafter. There was a big reaction on the very disturbing shot where Jessica Tandy sees the guy with the pecked out eyes. Brilliantly edited going in quick succession from long shot to medium shot to close-up. Mr. Hitchcock, still at the height of his powers. For me, the two directors I could always count on despite some missteps along the way, which all directors have, are Hitchcock first and Billy Wilder second. Yes, I love other directors, but I can watch any Hitchcock or Wilder film over and over without ever getting bored.
-
I also saw Marnie the day it opened, and while everyone was busy saying that Hitchcock had lost it, I was the only one at that time who stood up for it - I thought it was great then and I think it's great now, with a majorly brilliant performance from Louise Latham. It was, I feel, a bold film for him to make in the way he made it. And isn't Diane Baker always great. I got to know her in the last twenty years - she loves Kritzerland CDs - and we've had several nice interactions. Then again, I met Tippi, too, and I almost made her cry.
-
Why, you ask? Because I was hired to rewrite and direct some comedy thing and in casting it I asked to see several folks that I loved, like Kathleen Freeman, Tippi. Chris Connelly, Jill Schoelen, Marvin Kaplan, and other classic comedy actors. Pre-cast were Ruth Buzzi and Pat Carroll. So, Tippi came in and I began by telling her that I thought he performance in Marnie was perfect and she got very teary-eyed and said no one had, at that point, ever said that to her.
-
And Chris Connelly - I wanted to tell him how much his befriending me on my first TV guest shot on The Young Lawyers meant to me and that I'd never forgotten his kindness. He wasn't in the show, but he came to have lunch with his friend Gary Lockwood, who was also guest-starring. They invited me to have lunch with them and both were so lovely to this first-time before the camera actor.
-
So, he came in the room - at that point he was suffering from lung cancer, I believe, but still trying to work. As I did with Tippi, I went to say to him, "I don't know if you remember me..." but before I could even open my mouth he said, "I don't know if you remember meeting me when we had lunch on The Young Lawyers" - I couldn't believe it. I was so moved by that. He had almost no voice left and he said, "You know what I do, if it's okay I just am struggling with my voice and I'd rather not read." I told him it was fine and I reiterated to him how much his kindness meant to me and that I'd never forgotten it. A month later, the day before my birthday, he passed away at forty-seven.
-
The jerk who was producing it, never had the money in place and so the whole thing fell apart.
-
It's all in There's Mel, There's Woody, and There's You.
-
My only other news is that the kindle, audio book, and paper edition of Annabelle & Thatch are in their final prep stage. I'm so proud of Jeremy Clayton's work on the book. Here are three of his illustrations.

Larry, these are wonderful!
-
Memories, like the windmills of my mind.
-
Misty watercolor memories, of the way I was.
-
I had a so-so night of sleep with too many bathroom breaks. The cats behaved, which is good, but between the aches n the knee and hip joints and the neuropathy in my feet, I was awake too much of the night.
Two words. No, make that five words.
Pee Bucket, With a Cover.
Ditto.
-
The Young Lawyers episode directed by Mr. John Newland, who I'd never missed on One Step Beyond. Mr. Newland was VERY fond of me. :)
-
Did your kitties have shelter names that you changed, Elmore? I seem to remember that Annabelle and Thatch were their shelter names, but Stella wasn't.
Yes, I kept their shelter names. I did change Stella's name; it was Pinot Noir. Oy!
Good idea.
Pinot Noir?? :o
-
He loved playing trivia about Hollywood, and I was the only one on the set who could keep up with him.
-
I'd be there trying to study my lines and I'd hear him bellow from across the soundstage - "Where's Bruce? Triva!"
-
How blessed was I, seriously?
-
DR elmore3003, is the plan to have a live orchestra play the score for a screening?
Yes. The screening is in Akron, Ohio, I think, and the orchestra will be the same as it was for that theatre in 1925, sixteen players.
Very cool!
-
And right after that, working with Norman Tokar, director of The Happiest Millionaire?
-
;)
:))
-
And then working with Patricia Neal?
-
And lunching with Elsa Lanchester, Christopher Isherwood, and Don Bachardy every Sunday for almost a year?
-
Don Bachardy was VERY fond of me.
-
New notes are up.
-
Up are new notes.
-
I've seen them.
-
I've read them.
-
DR Elmore, that is a VERY exciting musical project.
The Washington Center here in Olympia has a silent movie series (two movies a season) with live organ music (usually). It's one of their regular series that I most look forward to!
-
I wrote them.

Enter page twelve!

Gratuitous Post #333!!! :D
-
Now THAT is a posting day.
-
I'd say hoo and ray.
-
And did say it.
-
So, hold tight and I'll change the day.
-
Right now.
-
No delay.

That's actually a great idea.
