Well, you've read the notes, the notes were popping, and now it is time for you to post until the pill-popping cows come home.

And the word of the day is: HOOEY!

Oh, I almost forgot! I got a link to the video (one camera only from audience right) of the Into the Woods that I stage managed and DR Jed directed. We can share the link, but can't post it. Let me know if anyone wants it. :)
-
Good morning, all.
-
Please share the link with me, George.

I'd love to get the link! My AOL address is FJL1960.

Good morning, all!

Yesterday was a strange one. I had planned to do laundry, only to discover during kitty cleanup that there was no hot water. So, I canceled the laundry and the hot water was off the entire day. It's back this morning. After a good night of sleep. last ndreadful. When the alarm rang at 5:30, I could not find any reason to get out of bed. so I cuddled with Annabelle and napped for another 45 minutes.
I will hopefully do the laundry tomorrow morning.

In summer 1998, I was working with Harvey and Tom on Mirette at Goodspeed when they lost the rights to Grovers Corner, their musical adaptation of Our Town. The Wilder estate gave them so much time to mount a major production, and they had begged Goodspeed to stage it, butGoodspeed wanted Mirette, which I believe was workshopped there the year before. The director of one regional company had been trying to raise the money with another regional theratre. but the time had run out and Goodspeed was the last chance for Grovers Corner. The Wilder estate pulled the rights.
Something similar happened to Peter Foley; I don't remember the exact details. I believe there was a college per4formance in a New Jersey school, but after that, Dodie Smiths estate - or maybe the film compasny that produced the movie - pulled the rights. One of the last things I did for Peter was to orchestrate one of the songs from I Capture the Castle in the style of a 1930s dance band; he wanted it for his website. He was a dear friend, and I miss him enormously.

I'm taking it easy today. After kitty cleanup, I need to vacuum the apartment. Badly.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Always wished for that Schmidt & Jones Grovers Corner. Alas.
-
I don't suppose there's any hope that the estate can still someday do a turnaround and grant the rights at some point in the future?
The work was completed, was it not?
-
If the "Our Town" musical version situation was like any typical stage rights deal, it's not a matter of the underlying rights owner doing anything active like pulling the rights, just not doing something active like granting another extension. So the time runs out before "merger" (as defined in the agreement) happens on whatever rights agreements plus extensions had already been executed - and the underlying right owner deciding not to execute an extension, or an additional extension.
-
Oh Lordy, this is supposedly our last day of HELL. We're up to 97 degrees or thereabouts for one last broiling day, then sometime tonight and all day tomorrow, the deluge. And tomorrow should top off around 80.
But wait, there's more!
Unless Not-so-AccuWeather is screwed up, Friday looks to be topping off at 70. Then back to 80 for the weekend, which is totally fine.
-
Wonder whether it mattered that Thornton Wilder was very much alive for the success of "Hello, Dolly!" - but that "Grover's Corners" must have been dealing with Wilder's estate or family members.
-
Larry, this looks like very good news. Your book, even though just in pre-order status as of now, is already in the top 100 on Amazon for Humorous American Literature and (to use recording industry language) bubbling under the Top 100 in American Humorous Fiction.

There had been a Chicago dinner theatre production, but I believe the show is now dead for good. I suspect the Wilder estate is happier with Ned Rorem's opera version.

Our weather forecast is similar to that one that DR CHAS SMITH wrote about.
Fingers crossed that it is correct.
-
When OUR TOWN (which debuted in 1938) goes into public domain in 2034, all versions will be allowed without the OK of the Thornton Wilder estate.
-
I CAPTURE THE CASTLE was published in 1948, so when the novel goes into public domain, Peter's family and his collaborators would be able to proceed with the musical.
-
I didn't realize until now that Dodie Smith also write 101 DALMATIONS.
-
Then, at 9:30, the internet went down again.
-
Good morning.

It was 88 degrees when I left for my walk this morning at 5 a.m.

DR John G., try a Bucket of Doom for the mosquitoes.
It's a bucket of standing water with a mosquito disk in it. The mosquitoes are attracted to the murky water to lay eggs, but the larvae will die.
It won't kill the current mosquitoes, but it will cut down on the offspring.
Put it away from the house or patio.
-
Thank you, Laura. I may first see if the attract lightning bugs.
-
I have a demo CD of Grover’s Corners, which I enjoyed. Need to listen to it again.
-
What is a mosquito disk?
-
Google may know.
-
Oh interesting. HHW is full of information.

https://image.chewy.com/catalog/general/images/summit-mosquito-dunks-larvae-control-tablets-2-count/img-27721._AC_SL600_V1_.jpg
-
It's some kind of bacteria that kills the larvae. It won't hurt fish or birds or dragonfly larvae.
-
Mosquitoes like standing water, such as what you get after extended rain. Dump out anything that holds water. You can drop a disk into fountains or birdbaths, or whatever you do want to keep.
-
A Bucket of Doom is a bucket you let get icky and it attracts the mosquitoes to lay eggs in it.
-
We've had no rain for a month here, and the little we did get earlier was not enough to get the mosquito population up. But in years we have good rains in the summer, the mosquito population booms.
-
There's our HHW environmentally friendly mosquito lesson for today.

We should have tried that in Ashland. We did have mosquito eating fish in the pond that helped some.

I CAPTURE THE CASTLE was published in 1948, so when the novel goes into public domain, Peter's family and his collaborators would be able to proceed with the musical.
So we get to wait until 2034 for Grover's Corners and 2044 for I Capture the Castle. Unless someone raises buckets of money to re-license it earlier.
But that's in the USA. In Europe and the rest of the world, it will be 2046 for Grover's Corners and 2061 for I Capture the Castle.
-
We will also be driving past The Goonies house ;D

English muffin eaten, pill one taken.

Am I completely misremembering or did they not do Grover's Corners in Chicago at the Marriott with Tom playing the stage manager?
-
Were orchestrations ever done for the show?
-
No galley, no covers to approve. If they're not here before noon, they're not coming today.

Thanks DR LAURA very interesting.

Yes, you're right. Here's the page on the ovrtur site for that production

-
Am I completely misremembering or did they not do Grover's Corners in Chicago at the Marriott with Tom playing the stage manager?
I mistakenly referred to it as a dinner theater. Theey still needed a major production to keep the rights. Doug Hughes - I think he was with the Long Wharf - was trying to mount a co-production with another regional theater, and that fell through. Goodspeed was their last chance. Having worked on Mirette, I think Michael Price made the wrong decision to ignore Grovers Corners.
-
Were orchestrations ever done for the show?
I think the Chicago production may have just been Harvey at the piano. Dan Shaheen would know.
-
I think we really must get to page 4 before 3 pm (Eastern).
We must!
-
It's so close
-
it would be shame not to

Page Four!
-
Sight unseen, I'd love to be able to do a production of that when possible. I'd even be up for playing it on piano if that's what's available. When Tom Jones was here doing his talkback with us in - when was it? 2017! - he mentioned Grover's Corners and both my director and I wished it were possible to nab it.

2034 is just around the corner.
But who knows - maybe like the versions of Great Gatsby, there are other versions of Our Town waiting patiently for public domain time.
-
Harvey did play the piano but an orchestrator is listed and it's David Siegel - who worked for us many times. I can ask him if he still has whatever he did. Because if Dan has all the materials, I should think I'd be able to record the songs from the show with no problem - not the entirety because that would involve grand rights. But the songs are fair game and I think they've recorded a few of them. I'll also get a copy of the demo and see if that's useable.

MR BK that would be a must have!

Today’s book was The Soul of an Octopus. I have mixed feelings on it, but the ending was excellent.
-
The test takers have less than one hour left.
-
I've been guaranteed galley and covers by tomorrow or Friday at the latest. I'm hoping tomorrow - the sooner the better so it can go up on Amazon and we can get my test books on the way to me.

Can someone who bought A Boy Named Charlie Brown CD send me WAV or AIFF files for all the tracks - I don't have a copy here, at least that I can find.
-
I came across this vile recipe.
-
It’s almost Shakespearean in its ugliness. Like the pie served in Titus Andronicus.
-
And the Miracle Whip completes it specialness.
-
LOL, John G. Pretty sure my MIL made that. She loved to put any and everything in Jello.
-
She would have used a fruit flavor, though.

I still laugh when remembering how my sister-in-law once said, "Now you sit down, Mom." Us girls will do the cooking, and you won't have to do a thing."

God bless her.

Peacemaker Season Two upcoming on HBO MAX

And?

Waiting for an answer to the all important question.

I had no time today to read. Maybe tomorrow...hopefully.

And no answer is forthcoming.

But you said you DID have time. I read it with my own eyeballs.

Send me those to hear, but hopefully JohnG can send the WAVs.
I'll send you a link in a PM. I didn't create these, I was only able to procure them.

It's a pretty short book.
-
A procurer.

I do think we've achieved a new low, at least for the last few years.

Weird.

Where in tarnation IS everyone?

PM has been sent. :)

Oh well.

It is what it is.

Nothing to be done about it.

I had to go to my mom's today to help her with some yardwork.

My cousin and his wife from Oregon are supposed to visit tomorrow, so she wanted to get some things ready.
