Well, you've read the notes, the notes weren't misbehavin', and now it is time for you to post until the ain't misbehavin' cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: OUTSTANDING!
-
And now - Dino at the piano.
-
I was just about to post this in several posts to get us to page seven to finish why I didn't have time to read:
After the yardwork, we played a couple of games of Phase 10 (of course), and my niece and I left. Then she realized that her cat Henry went missing :o so I came back and spent some time driving around the neighborhood looking for him, then my mom spent some time driving around the neighborhood looking for him, then my sister and her daughter came back over spent some time walking around the neighborhood and he FINALLY showed up! He RAN into the house like he was being chased, but nothing was following him, so he got scared at some point...but he's home.
-
Anyway, after Henry came back home, my sister and niece and I all left. They went the back way home because there's some repaving on I-5, but I didn't think that it would be a problem, so I drove home on the freeway. HOWEVER, just after I got on I-5, I (and other people) saw that something was on the road, so we moved out of that lane and slowed down. As I passed it, I realized that it was a body! An actual person was laying on the road not moving (that I could see)! :(
-
I don't know what happened. Fortunately, several cars had already stopped so I didn't, but emergency vehicles had not yet arrived. I have no idea what could've happened. I called my niece and asked if they had gone the back way, and they had so I told them what I saw. When they got home, my niece looked online and found that the guy was found alive but with serious injuries, and had already been airlifted to a hospital. She also said that I got through just in time because by then most lanes were closed and there was a long backup.
-
My first thought when seeing the guy splayed out on the road was to wonder if he was even alive. I'm glad that he is. Hopefully, he's able to recover and that it was an accident and not some suicide attempt.

That must have been scary!

Good morning, all!
-
Last night was a truly lousy night. I cou;dn't get comfortable, my legs and joints ached, Thatch was restless, I was restless. When the alarm rang at 5:30, I dressed and went back to bed. I would still be there if my body hadn't screamed for a bathroom break. Once in the bathroom, I saw (very poorly without my glasses) something floating in the cats' water bowl. The water level was high, so that meant whayever fell in there had happenedearly last night, and the cats had no water. Annabelle clearly wanted water, so I had to empty the dish, rinse it, and refill it. By the time I dumped the water, whatever it was floating there had disintegrated.
-
We've all had our breakfast, and Annabelle now sleeps on the cart next to me. I have things I need to clean up in the apartment, so the laundry is postponed to tomorrow.
-
A recording of Grovers Corners would be a very nice thing. It would be a lovely tribute to Harvey and Tom.
-
Good morning, all.
-
I am in full competition mode for the next three days, so I won’t be able to look for Grover’s Corners until next week.
-
I was not a big Billy Joel fan until I saw him in concert with Elton John. I went to see Elton, I was impressed by Billy, especially when he sang my favorite Elton songs.
-
Good morning, all.

Billy Joel was once sailing up the Hudson to a concert in Glens Falls. He parked his boat in Catskill, and we got word at the newspaper office. He was traveling with Christie and their newborn. She didn’t want her picture taken because she was without makeup. But he was nice and posed for a photo by himself by the boat.
-
Good morning, friends.
-
And others.
-
I don't have anything to say.
-
But I can do so over many posts.

It's just a little talent I have.

I did have time this morning to transfer the files. BK, can you let me know if you received them? I want to delete We Transfer

I just saw that my song list and the list provided do not sync up. The list says there are 20 tracks. The CD has 14.

Kitty Cleanup was particularly gross this morning. One of the cats threw up on the floor at the bathroom door threshold. Then I got into the bathroom to find another (or same) cat had thrown up in the bathtub.
-
We had no hot water Tuesday and we have no hot water this morning. WTF?
-
WTF, indeed. What is usually the reason for these outages? A friend who lives down in the Village has this happen a lot, too.
-
If the hardcovers and paperbacks of books about cats came with a spot of vomit or a piece of hairball stuck to the cover, it would make them a little more authentic.
-
Hey, I'm full of ideas. My cup runneth over. Hit me up for some more!
-
Maybe a joke about the tales of the cats being adapted into a "Pukebox musical?"
Thank you, I'm here all week - make sure to refresh your server on your way out. And watch your step.

I'm not a fan of "Just the Way You Are" because the lyrical sentiment strikes me as creepy. The music is great though.

Cahn and Van Heusen’s songs for the Our Town TV Producer’s Showcase are great. Aside from Love & Marriage, I find Look to Your Heart an underrated ballad and Sinatra performance.

:) An interesting sub-genre, along with
"Loving you is easy 'cause you're beautiful"

Wow, that One Direction video got 1.6-BILLION views!

Something tells me that girlfriend in the One Direction video KNOWS she's beautiful.

Has anyone dared do a parody "I love you just the way you are, now I'll go marry Christie Brinkley" :)
-
I suppose I'm up - I doubt I had more than three hours of sleep and so far this day is not so pleasant. No galley and covers, which means that IF it comes tomorrow anytime after ten, then everything slides to Monday and that's IF they've done everything correctly, which I'm not that confident anymore.
-
Just talked to my gal at the publisher and found out the why of things - because the guy who has overseen the production of every book of mine for the past fifteen years, is no longer overseeing it other than answering emails and phone calls. And apparently, no one was communicating with each other which is why things dragged on. We'll address how, going forward, we'll fix this so it never happens again, but meantime, she's escalating this right to the top, to insure I at least get stuff tomorrow, but since there's been no communication, I have no confidence they even looked at the instruction sheet, which petrifies me. But my gal is tops and hopefully her escalating will do the trick. It's obviously not coming today.
-
And IF there are problems, my gal is working all day tomorrow and will make sure if something's wrong that it gets fixed immediately.
-
If it doesn't happen, wonder what else will be escalating.
-
I just paid the quarterly property taxes.
Somebody! Quick! A priest! I need an exorcism!

Good news at last. Proofs arrived, all is well, I approved everything and am just waiting for the sign-off sheet and as soon as that's done, off it goes to the printer.

Back from the Apple Store. I went for the Mac Mini with 2tb. They don't carry those, of course, so it will be delivered here sometime before the tenth of August.
-
And a 27" monitor.
-
Of course, always unexpected things - I had to get a few adapter cords from USBA (my old computer) to USBC (the new ports). A new wireless keyboard because to charge you need the USB C cord, and a new trackpad for the same reason. Can't wait for the thing to arrive and then the guy in the back house will help me set it up. He'll come before that and get everything on the computer into the cloud - I now have 2tb of storage there and the computer has a bit less than 1tb. That way, everything can be ported quickly from the cloud. In case something goes awry we can always wipe it and do computer to computer and I have THAT cord, too.

Hello, everyone.

After a week off we're back to French cinema class tonight. This is one I've really been looking forward to: Buñuel's The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie. I know of it from Sondheim's Here We Are but I've never seen the original film (or The Exterminating Angel). Should be fun!
-
I just got caught in a weird time warp. I was on page two of today’s notes when I received a text from Bruce that he’d bought the new computer. You’re not going to post about it, but wait for the notes? He’d posted, but that was one page 3 and I hadn’t seen it yet. Oy! It’s easy to forget that the posts aren’t in real time!
I’m looking forward to him having the whole package and be fully up and running.

My first thought when seeing the guy splayed out on the road was to wonder if he was even alive. I'm glad that his is. Hopefully, he's able to recover and that it was an accident and not some suicide attempt.

Sadly, it turns out that he died on the way to the hospital:

Miracles of Modern Technology! ;D
-
Have started to back up the entire computer, all 785 GB of it. After five minutes it's done 4 GB. It seems to be having difficulty even calculating how long this will take, but I'd guess about six hours. If we end up transferring to the new computer from this backup disc, which we will, I believe we'll be able to use a thunderbolt cord to do that and it will go MUCH faster.
-
Discreet charm is great. Don’t go hungry.
;D
-
As it turn out, you can't actually back up the entire computer to the cloud - so I'll cancel the 2 TB and go back to what I had.

Had Panda Express for food.

Pill two taken.
-
Still calculating time remaining. Now that I'm actually looking at it, it could potentially take all night.
-
For the keyboard, I got the big boy one - everything is easier to see on it, which is good, it has touch ID, and the keys are black instead of white - white shows every bit of dirt and this new one won't. For the trackpad, I got the black version.
-
Congratulations on the book progress and the new computer, BK.
-
Time has finally been calculated - 13 hours remaining. That should put as at three in the morning.
-
:)
-
But it just went down to twelve hours so it could be sooner than that.
-
I assume if the computer goes into sleep mode it will still keep doing the backup. I think I'll Google that to make sure.
-
Just went down to eleven hours - much better.
-
Is your backup disk mechanical or a newer SSD disk. SSD is way faster. If it’s mechanical, that’s probably where the slowdown is. The latest USB-C cables are very fast.
-
A bunch of small files also takes longer than a few large files for the same amount of disk space.
-
:)
LOL!
-
What about a bunch of small fries?

Oh wait, it’s probably your old computer that’s the slow point. 7 hours for that disk size sounds about right. I’ve been cleaning u some old disks lately.

What about a bunch of small fries?
We don't have small fries. How about tater tots?

I got that one off of the internet. Keith took a bad photo of me in front of the door. If I can downsize it I will post it as I like the front door sign.
-
I have to believe it's an SSD drive. I don't know where to look to see, but the remaining time is down to six hours and we're currently over 100 gigs.
Yay, making good progress. And the time is going down, which is always nice.
-
Bruce's Candy Shop.
-
Keith is also in the photo :)
-
My candy shop!
-
My dirty little secret revealed.
-
About five hours remaining and now over 200 gigs.
-
Nice photos DR JANE....especially the second one.
-
My first thought when seeing the guy splayed out on the road was to wonder if he was even alive. I'm glad that his is. Hopefully, he's able to recover and that it was an accident and not some suicide attempt.
Hoping he has a full recovery.
Sadly, it turns out that he died on the way to the hospital:
Pedestrian dies after being struck by a vehicle on I-5 Wednesday night (https://www.theolympian.com/news/local/article311538320.html)
I don't think you have to log in to read this. Let me know if it doesn't work. :-\
Sad. After reading this I wonder if the person knew they hit someone.
I really would wonder how could they not know?? At least, that's my take.

Very cool!

That's a great picture!

And now, I'm off. My friends from high school that have been dining together each month for almost a year now will be going to Centralia (about a half hour south of where I live) to surprise another classmate (I think). She hosts karaoke down there, so some may sing. I doubt I will...not really a fan.
SPOIKER ALERT!! BK, I'll be gone the rest of the evening and most likely won't be back before the day ends!
But before I go...
-
PAGE SEVEN DANCE OF THE RUPERTS!!
-
DR Rodz, were you all OK during the tsunami? Here in LA it was a big nothing, but was it nothing for you?
Thank you. Nothing here too, happily.
-
Iris, yeah, haven’t seen her in ages.
-
Bruce's Candy Shop.
Great one!
-
The thing has slowed to a crawl - still showing five hours. Unless it picks up after what must be large files, it could be more than five hours. We're not halfway done yet - only at 328 gigs.
-
Like, Noel Coward once said, the last 300 gigs are the hardest.
-
He did say that, didn't he? 8)
-
BK, congratulations on your new confectionary business.
-
Howdy, Rupert!
-
I've gotten to the episode of Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman where the coach dies in the bowl of chicken soup. It's still one of the weirdest episodes of TV ever.
-
The website is fun. You can even sort on candies by color!

-
Over halfway by 100 gigs - another four hours it says, but I suppose could be sooner.
-
Cooling off the house now - it was eighty - too darn hot.
-
Having some crackers and cheese and then pill three.
-
Three hours remaining.
-
What say you, DR John G.?
-
Maybe DR Laura can whip these up and stun the coffee hour crowd.
-
Stun being the operative word.
-
Well, way past my bedtime.
-
Good night, friends.
-
LUCKY #200
-
And others.
-
Oh, one question, BK:
-
Was The Sherman Brothers Album (on the label that shall not be named) ever broadly released?
-
I see most of the other titles from that period available secondhand online here and there, but not that one.
-
What say you, DR John G.?
I’ll plead the fifth.
-
Good night, all.
-
It was "released" and did poorly.
-
One hour remaining - only 120 gigs left.
-
Twenty-five minutes remaining, and just another forty gigs to go. So, it will have taken exactly eight hours - very slow, but that's because I'm using the ports on this ancient computer. We'll use the Thuderbolt cord when we port over to the new computer and that shouldn't take more than an hour.
-
I only wish we didn't have to wait eleven days to get it, although I'm hoping it's sooner - they estimate between seven and eleven days.
-
Any port in a storm.
-
New notes are written.
-
It did a short backup just now - took two minutes.
-
Just took a Claritin-D - lots of pollen in this heat.
-
I shaved so I won't look like a derelict tomorrow when I bank.
-
I'll shower before bed.
-
I'll try to be in bed by one-thirty at the latest.
-
Wrote about many things in the notes.
-
Of cabbages and kings.
-
Butterfly wings.
-
The vine that clings.
-
The Bing that sings.
-
The bee that stings.
-
The Lord and his rings.
-
The reprobate who has flings.
-
The Flying Lings.
-
The vases known as Mings.
-
The cell tower that pings.
-
The arrows and the slings.
-
No strings.
-
The speed that zings.
-
I think that covers that.
-
No one here.
-
But us chickens.
-
And we're the dickens.
-
At least we got to page eight today.
-
Any time now.
-
But I have this feeling.
-
That page nine is ready to burst on the scene.
-
See?
-
Not bad.
-
Not bad at all.
-
New notes are up.
-
Up are new notes.
-
I've seen them.
-
I've read them.
-
I wrote them.
-
Notes!
