Well, you've read the notes, the notes had no thrills, and now it is time for you to post until the non-thrilling cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: GUSTO!

From yesterday:
Congrats for Keith's Wordle-in-three!
Congrats for Kevin's Wordle-in-two!
Welcome home, John!
Welcome home, Rodzinski!
-
Good morning, all!
-
I slept very well, which was nice. I will soon begin the laundry.
-
DR Dakota Celt, thank you for the lovely Amazon review. I'm happy that you enjoyed the book.
-
DR Rodzinski, welcome back!
-
Last night I watched on Netflix The Thursday Murder Club, which I thoroughly enjoyed. It was a nice tonic, after my aches, pains, pissing and moaning about my health, to watch a wonderful group of actors in my age group, led by Helen Mirren and Ben Kingsley, solving a mystery. I'll be watching it again.
-
So, today is laundry day, which should take up most of the morning. Then my friend Jim Vivyan is coming by. Now retired, he used to work for Random House, and he was one of the first friends to urge me to get a publisher for Anabelle & Thatch. I haven't seem him in years, so I'm looking forward to a nice visit.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Those "thrillers" sound dreadful.
-
Good morning, friends.
-
And others.
-
I'm makin' with the posts.
-
Like a good DR.
-
Unlike the "thrillers", Truffaut's The Soft Skin certainly wasn't dreadful. I had no idea what this one was, and what a wonderful discovery. After seeing it, I watched the supplemental features (there's also a commentary which I'll listen to another time), which all relate to Hitchcock and his influence on Truffaut. I'd identified a couple of direct influences in the film, but there's more than I saw the first time, and of course he has a whole history relating to Hitchcock. What I really really wish is that they had filmed at least a few bits of their actual interviews for the Hitchcock/Truffaut book. Hearing excerpts of the tape recordings is wonderful, but a little bit of film there would have been icing on the cake.
-
Thank you for the heads up on that, DR MichaelG.
-
Tuesday.....but I think it's Monday.
My DVD of THE ACCUSED is out for delivery....this is the 1949 thriller starring Loretta Young and Douglas Dick.....not the Jodi Foster movie.
-
TOD: NONE
-
Totally a Monday. Even my trash takeout night which is usually Monday night, is tonight.
-
TOD:
I couldn't name a single one of these writers, like 'em or not. I might recognize a name that someone else posts, but no guarantees.
-
Hello!
-
TOD: I rarely have the me time to read books, but when I do, they’re rarely modern.
-
I rarely see movies but when I do, it’s on an airplane.
-
I recently read The Woman in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware. It was OK; not great.
-
Mickey 17 was a disaster on the way out, so I watched a documentary on The Beach Boys on the way back. Starts off great with archival and modern interview footage from actual Beach Boys and their family members. I was admiring that fact when midway through we start getting the opinions of a few 30-something random people. Was downhill from there.
-
Ron P, if you stop by here today: Sending birthday wishes!
-
I'm makin' with the posts.
Do I feel a Dancin' in the Streets parody coming on?
Oh good, the feeling has passed.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Two!
-
Tuesday morning greetings! My sister and niece arrived last Wednesday and we had a delightful time. We went on a craft shop hop in the Dayton area on Thursday and spent all day Friday playing together in my craft room. They headed back to Michigan after we joined them for breakfast Saturday morning.
-
Had a good sleep. Dreamt I was running a rickshaw taxi for a woman and her daughter to a party. Once there I was assigned to her for the entire evening. It wasn’t fun.
-
Happy birthday, Ron!

It sure sounds like a terrific time!

Yesterday I was playing my CD copy of "Rare Tracks", and we weren't sure which event or which book it was for. I did a little searching in BK's notes, and I'm wondering if it was issued in conjunction with There's Mel... in 2010, which was a couple of years before I was here. It's the one that begins with:
We've got the shows, we've got the stars you want to see... NBC.
The notes also indicated that BK printed a booklet for it (?) - like, a track listing? That would be great to have if anyone has a copy.
-
On the plane I also watched the first 4 episodes of Schitt’s Creek. And the first 2 episodes of season 3 of The Only Murders in the Building.
-
Wait, that's it! I was just seeing track numbers on my screen, but the titles are there on what I was originally sent. And it is indeed identified as being from There's Mel...
I think it was DR George who sent me the tracks for 5 CDs, and I do have the book titles for the others. Excellent, and thank you again, George!
I would still love to know who's on all of these, if that information is out there.
-
HAPPIEST OF HHW BIRTHDAYS to dear DR Ron Pulliam!!!
-
I'm up, I'm up - four and a half hours of sleep.
-
I'll add Ron to the notes - I forgot to look. But - where IS he?
-
Regarding The Soft Skin - it remains one of my favorite Truffaut films, top five. I saw it the day it opened here. I was already loving Francoise Dorleac from That Man from Rio, and I just loved the whole feel of the film and a great performance by the leading man. Also, one of my favorite Delerue scores.
-
Everything is in the dryers. While I was in the basement, I had a nice telephonic conversation with my brother Randy.
-
Yes, I am loving these Delerue scores. I think I can say that in the films I've watched this week, they don't blanket the entire movie, they're just there when needed, and the music is wonderful.
-
Happy Birthday DR Ron!

Will you continue watching Schitt's Creek? We loved that show.

I love it when Onna White was able to let loose with a great chorus of dancers and a lively song. From Mame. I’ve never seen this before with Angela Lansbury.

I disliked Gone Girl so much that I haven't read anything else by the author.

My God, the positive energy Broadway shows used to have. Well, I guess you have to say that by definition they still do. But it's different. Because you also need the wonderful music, real orchestras, and ... you know. It's just different.
-
I am now listening to the A Boy Named Charlie Brown CD, and this has incredible music, too. And playing. Holy moly.
-
Tried to upload a picture. Anyone else getting this? The attachment is 164 kb.
Your attachment couldn't be saved. This might happen because it took too long to upload or the file is bigger than the server will allow.

I have gotten them in the past though I have no idea what the size was.

My friend Jim just left. We had a nice lunch. I had for the first time in years a BLT on whole wheat toast and it was to die for. I want another!

I don't want to have to manually type out all that. ::)
-
Just reported our recurring photo issue - he'll get it fixed shortly.
-
Gone Girl was also a terrible movie. But just reading the first ten pages was enough for me. Just hated the "style" - so trying to be now and hip.

Just about to finalize the new manuscript but am waiting on clarification for one thing that needed it.

Doug Haverty sent me five choices for the girl's cover design - basically the only difference between them was the title font and colors. I liked 1 and 4 out of the five - they loved number one so that's done and Doug can send me the font and we can get the manuscript to the interior designers by the end of the week. She has her PDF for the blurbers, and her hubby has a Word doc so he can now just read the book and make sure we've caught everything.
-
Good work MR BK.
-
I enjoyed my lunch. We went to El Rodeo and I had the Pollo Rodeo - a chicken breast topped with onions, tomatoes, and shrimp along with some rice and pinto bean smash.
And I brought a LOT home.

Three more Wawa stores are opening in Indiana in September.

Have they given you the other gift cards yet?

Jane Krakowski is headed back to Broadway in Oh, Mary!
-
BK, glad your book drama is ending.
-
Back to Ingrid Bergman. The drama here is getting knotty. The politician is implicated in the killing of the extortionist over the abortion. Ingrid is suffering on the sidelines.
-
Thanks for the link to the BK booklet download, DR George.
-
I have been posting for several days now that the photo uploader here at HHW is broken. Vociferously.

Glad it is being addressed.

Watching the 2011 update of Three Musketeers. It’s pretty dreadful.

When I'm feeling better.

Trying to find some common ground on Osgood Pie recipes. Beat the eggs together or separately?

Also, books I purchase are read when I have a lull in the books available from the library. It is easier for me to read those books, even B&N which is easier than Kindle.

If the uploads are working, here's the 60-year-old KLH Model Twenty that's responsible for some beautiful sounds for me in the bedroom. I was very lucky to find this particular one, because it is: excellent cosmetically, has both the AM & FM radios (many of these had only FM but I think they were still called Model Twenty - go figure, KLH stuff is confusing that way), it has its original owners manual, the cartridge for playing 78s, and the speakers are in equally wonderful condition.
-
I met Graham Greene during a press conference for a play that also starred Bill Murray, Stockard Channing, Brian Doyle Murray and the original Rodzinski, Gerrit Graham. It was Brecht’s Mann ist Mann.
-
Yes, they're working!
And here's one of the speakers, temporarily standing next to a Large Advent, and those need to have their woofers refoamed. Woof!
-
I keep having to remind myself that it's not the first Graham Greene.
-
eBook is also on Barnes and Noble.

Back in the 1990s, I bought a Bang & Olufsen (https://www.bang-olufsen.com) turntable from a friend of mine. It eventually stopped working and I never got it fixed, but I still have it. I wonder if it's worth getting fixed. I don't know what model it is.
-
I suppose I should do a little research. ;)
-
I found on B&O's website the Beogram 4000C (https://www.bang-olufsen.com/en/us/speakers/beogram-4000c). I don't (yet) know if I have the 4000 or 4002 or 4004, etc., but I'll look. It's up in my bedroom in the original box under a couple of other storage boxes.
-
I checked eBay and they show numbers of 1602, 1700, 3404, 5000+, etc., so there are many models out there.

Not here :(
He will be missed.
-
I had a B&O for several years, and eventually sold it when I went to the AR issued in the late '80s. It wasn't one of the big fancy models, 1700 or 17-something sounds right but I'd have to research it. It was a very good sounding turntable, though.
-
95-degrees and muggy out - eighty-two in the house. Air is on.
-
Bruce, are you going to your high school reunion?
-
I think I'm losing my sanity with these damn pills. I have the two I take daily next to each other. And when I do pill two and the Prednisone, I usually do pill two first, then the Prednisone. And that's what I thought I was doing, only pill two was bitter, which means it was the Prednisone, which means I had to have picked up the wrong bottle - they look identical - so I took pill two, but I suppose it's possible that I took two pill twos. I know I didn't take two Prednisones, at least I hope I didn't. I'm ready to stop all this, frankly. And to think tomorrow I pick up the fourth thing of pills that I haven't even started yet and won't start until I have a conversation. The fact is, when I was just doing the one pill I was actually feeling better.
-
Haven't decided about the reunion. If you'll be my "date", I'll go :)
-
Four hours of sleep isn't helping, either.
-
Has Ron Pulliam been around here today?
-
Marshall Harvey wrote a short but lovely review of the new book.
-
Muse Margaret called - got her two books from this year - and loves the way they look.
-
Sweet turntable, Chas!
-
Gone Girl was a loathsome film.
-
Once I was in Brooklyn helping my cousin move, and I was sitting in the back of a pickup truck and Jane Krakowski walked by and we made eye contact. Be still my heart.
-
Haven't decided about the reunion. If you'll be my "date", I'll go :)

MBC… we’ve got the shows!
In a brief and rare look at broadcast tv the other day I saw an ad for a show called DMV, which takes place at, you know, a DMV. We’ve basically entered MBC programming.
-
Bruce, I suggest wrapping a rubberband around your prednisone bottle so you do not make that mistake again.
-
I scoured the posts and saw no Ron P. Yet he did acknowledge a birthday wish on rival site, Facebook. So he is partially social … or socially partial.
-
What I’ve heard is that B&O turntables sound luxe, but when they break, they are difficult to get repaired.
-
Jane, I would like to watch more Schitt’s Creek, yes.
-
:)
-
I have an Osgood pie in the oven.
-
In honor of Ron’s birthday, of course.
-
I’m tired of this heat.
-
In case I haven’t said that yet.
-
The new Robert Galbraith/J.K. Rowling book is out.
-
I have to finish the Carl Hiaason I’m in the middle of first.
-
I'm writing a big 1 and 2 on the pill bottles.

In honor of Ron’s birthday, of course.
Not in honor of Charles Osgood?

-
We have our hot stretches here but overall our summers are nice.
-
In honor of Ron’s birthday, of course.
Not in honor of Charles Osgood?
Nope. It used to be oh so good pie, but Texans like to shorten things.
-
Watching BookWars, documentary about the guys who sell books on the sidewalks of New York.
-
The new Robert Galbraith/J.K. Rowling book is out.
Thank you. I only read the first one. I think my brother is reading these so I will let him know.
-
I'm writing a big 1 and 2 on the pill bottles.
Good idea. In different colors? I would still put a rubber band around the Prednisone. I have pills I take occassionally that I need to be careful with. I always keep a rubberband on them. I also do the same with eyedrops that I need to be careful not to confuse.
-

There are too many boxes on top of it, so I can't even see what the model number is. Someday, I'll clean up the area. ::)

The new Robert Galbraith/J.K. Rowling book is out.
I didn't know that there was another one. My library has the epub book (no Kindle...yet?) with a 10-week wait. The Pierce County library has it with a 17-week wait! :P

I've soured on her since she has become such an anti-trans wraith.
-
Thank you for the heads up on that, DR MichaelG.
So glad that you enjoyed it, and that it's a bk favorite too.

There is that. :P I don't think I read the previous book, The Running Grave.

Yes, I am loving these Delerue scores. I think I can say that in the films I've watched this week, they don't blanket the entire movie, they're just there when needed, and the music is wonderful.
I think 3 of the 7 films in our class had Delerue scores. I enjoyed all of them, but my favorite was La monte-charge, which has some wonderfully evocative sax music in some key scenes. Your description is spot-on.

The new Robert Galbraith/J.K. Rowling book is out.
We've been watching the British series C.B. Strike, based on the book series "Cormoran Strike" by J. K. Rowling/Robert Galbraith. Very compelling characters.
We're almost near the end of the second season.

Gratuitous Post #203!!

So that song that was added to the Mame revival - it is by Herman? I've never heard it before. Nice clip!

And finally, page four:

I love it.

Woo hoo - Hannah Cruz is playing Svetlana in the upcoming Broadway revival of Chess. I loved her singing of Inez on the Suffs album so now I'll get to hear her in person. There's also a nice big ensemble for all the juicy chorus music in the score.
-
So that song that was added to the Mame revival - it is by Herman? I've never heard it before. Nice clip!
The song is called "That's How Young I Feel," and was in the original Broadway production. It was cut from the movie with Lucy.

Can you imagine how Lucy would have handled the choreography while she belched out “feel” every once in a while?

Well... that shows how often I've listened to the full OBC! :P

Fred, you used that as an inspiration for one of your pieces.

Osgood pie

The combination of ingredients smells incredible.
-
DR CHAS SMITH you are correct - it was the clip posted by DR JOHN G and now being discussed by DR singdaw and DR GEORGE
-
Pie.

I am watching a very entertaining tennis match from the US Open.....Djokovic vs Fritz.

Fred, you used that as an inspiration for one of your pieces.
Thanks for remembering! The Susan Boyle parody in volume 1. There's a celebrity name that was so incredibly hot for a while; at the time, I'd have thought she'd never cool down.

Not only do I have a few screws loose, but... I have lost the screwdriver.

Good night, friends.

And others.

I do, too. I still have my original vinyl album to the 1984 studio cast recording, which, in my humble opinion, is probably the best version.

Lucy, you got some homework to do! (almost a Ricky Ricardo quote)
-
Google's AI does some explainin' of the Ricky Ricardo quote:
The line "Lucy, you've got some 'splainin' to do!" is a famous Mandela Effect, as it was never actually said by Ricky Ricardo in I Love Lucy. While he often told Lucy she had "some 'splain" to do, or "you got some 'splaining" to do, the exact phrase became popular through misquotes and parodies, with impressionists and comedians altering the line slightly for comedic effect.
Essentially, the misquote became more famous than the actual lines from the show, leading to the widespread belief that the exact phrase "Lucy, you've got some 'splainin' to do!" was a part of I Love Lucy.

Musically it may be the best, but I refer the original Broadway for the cast. Judy Kuhn was never better.

Starting another movie. This time it’s Bette Davis in Dangerous. She won an Oscar for it. Never seen it before.
-
DR CHAS SMITH you are correct - it was the clip posted by DR JOHN G and now being discussed by DR singdaw and DR GEORGE
As long as you enjoyed it, I don’t mind.

We did a whole booklet for Rare Tracks? So it was a proper pressed CD. Why don't I remember this and why don't we have any - or maybe we do?
-
Yes, forgot to mention the uploads are working again.
-
Just had a Zoom with a set designer - liked him very much and we hired him.
-
Guess I'll try to find something to watch.
-
A good movie day.

Problem for a moment in posting.

Good night, all.

Couldn't really find a movie to watch.

That Mame OBC LP got wore out on our family turntable.

New notes are written.
-
Why shouldn't they be?
-
It's only right.

After all, it's night.

Time is tight.

The bulb burns bright.

Let there be light.

Notes are in sight.

They're not slight.

Or trite.

Let's go fly a kite.

Let's reach the highest height.

Where's George?
-
Not here.
-
He could be, I suppose, dancing in his pantaloons.
-
Of course, we'd need video proof.

The midnight hour hath arriveth.

I need to get the Suffs CD. I've never heard it. :-\
-
Yeth, it hath.

The prodigal George arrives.
-
New notes are up.
-
Up are new notes.
-
I've seen them.
-
Where's George?
I literally just got home from watching a few friends do karaoke at a local pub/bar.
-
I've read them.
-
I didn't participate, but enjoyed the singing (with talent) and endured the "singing" (without talent). ;)
-
O wrote them. But I wasn't happy with O's version, so I wrote them instead.
-
All that, and page ten.
-
PAGE TEN KARAOKE DANCE!!
-
O wrote them.
Oh? Who's O?
;D
-
That's a net ten pages - of course, net is ten spelled backwards.

O is AI.

Ah. Makes perfect sense. :)
