Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of les deux mouches set morte, and now it is time for you to post until les deux cows come home.

Good morning, all!

I'm still feeling puny. If I didn't have three demanding felines, I'd spend a day staying in bed as long as I liked. Some of it's old age, some might be pre-birthday depression which I've had regularly for years, and the combo of diabetes and degenerative arthritis.
-
Where is our DR vixmom these days?
-
DR John G, your book arrived on Saturday. It's so tiny!
-
Today I really need to tidy up this dump, bathe, and get to work on one f my two projects with Doug Fullington. We're looking at a ballet by George Gershwin's girlfriend Kay Swift, whom I met around 1986 when we recorded the Kiri te Kanawa sings Gershwin album.

What a mess that was. And the smoke!

I’m glad it arrived. Does size matter?

Perfect stocking stuffer size, or to carry in your bag.

I also had one Michael Parks LP....well I still have it....somewhere.
I liked the opening credits for his show especially when they did an airplane shot pull back as he drove over a bridge over a deep canyon.

TOD: I don't recall fire ever, but yes some unwanted smoke, like when I used to make homemade pizza on English muffins or bread in the broiler; and then pulling out the plug seemed to do the trick.
-
My mom was frying chicken once and the grease caught fire - she dumped a bag of flour on it to put the fire out.
We didn't have fried chicken for dinner that night.
-
TOD
I don't think I ever set anything on fire, but I'll never forget the pot of dirty rice I kept on the burner too long. It was a prepared packet I'd brought back from New Orleans in the mid-1990s, absolutely delicious except for the burned taste that, even though the burned part was just in the bottom of the pot, sadly permeated even the unburned parts I rescued. Not badly enough to throw out, mind you, because - like DR Rodzinski and the tuna pouches - I was not going to be denied. I got to eat probably 90% of the contents, but I'm thinking it took a couple of DAYS of soaking to get that pot cleaned.

Thanks for that link!
Even though it says so on the screen, I hadn't noticed before that it was Michael Parks himself singing the closing credits theme song.

TOD - part two:
For actual smoke (but not fire), we had a turkey in the oven that we might not have basted enough (we are nuts about basting, so that would have been a lapse), or the oven was just too hot for that stage of the roasting, and the top got singed and caused smoke. It was unpleasant getting that cleared out, but to my recollection no turkey has ever been ruined here.

I was cooking peasant on a tiny stove in a tiny apartment. I didn’t realize that dish was a flambé. It never said anything like that in the instructions. I added the alcohol and whoosh!! The dish went up in flames. Right next to the apartment wall. I had the lid handy, but the fire, which had been more than 2 feet high, burned out almost in an instant.

This morning turned into hell. The only thing worse would be if I slipped and fell in the bathtub. I have to ask the building management to send in a tile se set the towel rack back in position, look for a pretty new porcelain water dish for the cats to replace the one that was fractured when the towel rack holder fell onto it and broke it, I have to mop the bathroom mess up, and then get to the mess I was planning to tidy up today. Shit.

Sorry, Elmore :(

The hit songwriting duo he and Tommy Boyce formed in the 1960s was best known for the unexpectedly popular tunes of a made-for-TV band."

This double vision thing is interesting. Two days ago, it was pretty much gone. Today, on the other hand, it's gone straight ahead, up, and to the right. Go down or to the left and it's back. Hopefully, it will just keep getting better. Maybe it has to do with not taking any pills over night or until I have food in the morning. Who knows?

Years ago DR ELMORE sent me a DVD of a production of Im Weissen Rossl.
I found it today while cleaning a shelf and had to sit down and watch it again.
A joy.
A song NOT from that production featuring obviously, the director's girlfriend.

And one of my favorite songs from the show turned into a showcase for a "dance" group. I especially like the guy in the front row who is INTO IT, man! Lederhosen! ;D

The only thing I have ever flambéed is a bag of pretzels that I forgot was stored in my oven when I went to preheat it.
What a mess that was. And the smoke!
One Easter when I was a kid, our parents made Easter "baskets" for us (actually, everything was just put in big bowls, but we didn't care :) ), but we couldn't find mine, and my mom couldn't remember where she hid it! Well, after a while we gave up looking and she started making breakfast and heated up the oven to keep food warm as she made more, and then shortly thereafter, we started smelling melting chocolate and plastic! THAT is where she hid my bowl (which was a big plastic mixing bowl), in the oven, and which also had plastic "grass," and of course all my chocolate. :))
To this day, I still check the oven to make sure it's empty before I turn it on!
-
I was so tired from yesterday I slept in until 6 a.m. I didn't get started on my walk until almost 7 a.m. It was still nice out but warming up. I walked 2.5 miles to Starbucks to buy a gift card, then the bus that would take me to within a half mile of my house pulled up, so I got on.
-
TOD: Not food, but I set the air fryer on fire a while ago.

Aw, man. I hope your day goes better, Elmore. Hugs.

Back from an omelet and small Caesar as a side.

Think I'll make some tuna pasta salad, since I have all the stuff for it and it will last two days AND that can be my snack later.

That was a clever way to put the fire out, except you aren't supposed to use flour-lol.

Bruce I was horrified to read that you used WATER to put the fire out.
Water can cause the fire to flame up, it doesn't usually put it out.
On a stove you are supposed to put a lid on it.
In the broiler, turn the heat off and keep the lid shut.
-
Water worked quickly and fine - instantly actually but I didn't use it until the heat was completely off. It would have burned itself out, but it was starting to smoke and I didn't want that.
-
Tuna pasta salad is made, and I put it in the freezer to chill it a bit faster - in thirty minutes, I'll move it to the fridge.
-
I have had a mostly lazy day. Got the oil changed on the car. Got my shot. That’s about it.
-
No, you should never use flour to put out a fire; it is a combustible material and can cause flour dust explosions or intensify existing fires, making them worse…
So sayeth our AI overlords. But I had heard that elsewhere.

I remember lots of broiler fires growing up. I think the fact that we lined the broiler pan with tin foiler helped the fires. My mother always turned the fire off. We either put something on top of the pan or just shut the door.

I also had a few broiler fires as an adult under we stopped eating meat,

What I don't remember is what my mother was doing when she set the kitchen curtains on fire. They weren't near the stove. I remember walking home and seeing the fire truck race past me with the sirens on. To my surprise the truck was at my house when I arrived. All was good before they even got there so I missed all the excitement ;D

The Barnes and Noble page for "Richard and Me" is pretty easy to navigate to put reviews up over there. I just had gotten confused about clicking on the star rating, and maybe had done that a little too quickly, but it's really quite simple.
So that looks fixed.

Not sure whether “Hard to Say Goodbye, My Love” from DREAMGIRLS is a well-known enough song, but maybe some here or some of the Guests will know it well enough to sing along? :)
All you have to have is names, and - we'll be there!
Considering the Global Star Search promised by the new DREAMGIRLS - Do they really intend to do a revival without some really really big names in this current box office climate?
“It Takes Stars to Make Us Buy, My Love”
Tune of “Hard to Say Goodbye, My Love” from DREAMGIRLS
Folks claim that shows are too pricy. /
Something the facts will not allow. /
When a show had George or Daniel /
We all found money somehow.
Eight hundred or nine hundred /
Money from who knows where /
But no matter how high it may go /
You’ve got stars, we'll always be there!
It takes stars to make us buy, my love. /
Who would even try, my love. /
Broadway biz can be unsure /
Without that name that they call the lure!
It’s such a shame, it ain’t no lie /
That you need big names, it’s stars that make us buy!
