Well, you've read the notes, the notes refilled the notes, and now it is time for you to post until the refilled cows come home.

And the word of the day is: VOCIFEROUS!

Guess I'll try and get some sleep. How about you?

I like New York and Jews - how about you? I mean, New York in June.

Good moorning, all!

I do, too!
-
I slept very well. Since my vaccinastion attempt failed yesterday, I need to rebook that, so I must ponder a good time in the next week
-
After all the madness of yesterday morning, the remainder of my day was quiet and event-free. I have no plans for today, so I will try to rest my legs, which are killng me, and spend the day off my feet as much as possible.

A new Lynley mystery series? I have the original series that ran from 2001-2007. I liked it very much.
I tried to post a photo of the original but the site will not let me.

DR John G, the author of the book you're reading mayhD, but he doesn't have an editor with a brain. Unless it's self-published.
-
I'll let them know about the photo thing - once they get everything rebooted, fixed, and on another server, all of these issues will disappear.
-
Thank goodness.

I got in bed at two but could not fall asleep - or maybe I slept for thirty minutes. I got up at three, took a Pepcid, and at four I got in the motor car and went to CVS and picked up my refills. As it turns out, the eye doctor didn't need to do the Prednisone one - I have enough to last until it auto renews in early November. But glad I got that out of the way so I reset my alarm for ten-thirty. The Darling Daughter and friend won't be here before then.
-
Thanks for the recommendation for the new detective procedural series, singdaw!
-
We're going through the early seasons of THE MORNING SHOW, and trying to not binge or move thorough the episodes too quickly (we're in season 3 now), in part because there have been no promising prospects for what to watch once we're caught up.
LYNLEY seems like a good possibility.
-
We enjoy a good detective procedural, so appreciate the suggestion - and we're not that picky as to the age or looks of the lead detectives - THE MADAME BLANC MYSTERIES' two leading detectives were closer to my own age (yes, THAT old!) and we really liked that series, preposterous plot twists and all. We will get the Acorn station again when the new season of THE MADAME BLANC MYSTERIES is on.
-
Good morning.

Thanks for the alert that there's a 2001-2007 version, Larry.
-
Skip really enjoys the British baking show. For me, it's a fun show to have on in the background while doing other things, but watching that yesterday helped make season 3 of THE MORNING SHOW easier to stretch out and savor.
-
The main characters in THE MORNING SHOW in the TV/news business seem as ruthless and backbiting as the characters on SUCCESSION, but THE MORNING SHOW somehow has more humanity and the whole show feels more relatable, less distancing.
-
My sister likes The Morning Show.
But it is on a service I don't have.
-
Good morning, all.

Last night I pulled out a John Carpenter film I bought long ago but had never watched: Prince of Darkness (1987). It was interesting enough, and another sort of Lovecraftian story from him. In the Mouth of Madness (1994) is even more so.
I have a love/like relationship with Carpenter's films. I totally admire him and his style, I like his locations, he uses scope to great advantage, he's creative with old themes that have been done to death, and the films are never boring. I just don't love every one of them. But I love a few of them, and I've enjoyed every one I've seen to greater or lesser degrees.

Question for the class:
Are your primary doctors' offices open on Saturdays, at least for limited services? I don't know if I'm remembering wrong, but I just found out mine is completely closed weekends. All I wanted was to ask them to send through a prescription refill for one that he hadn't made automatic yet, but I can't even do that till Monday. Fortunately, I have enough.
Maybe I'm remembering wrong, but it just seems like I've been able to call them on Saturday mornings. They're part of a large regional network that includes the major local hospitals, etc. I'll have to ask when I'm talking to them.

Or should I say, No, Teacher?

As the dancer says in Best Little Whitehouse, this is very true. (Not self-published.)

I love most chicken salads, the more old-fashioned, the better. Danny Kaye had a marvelous chicken salad recipe that's simple and wonderful. The lone exception I can think of is chicken salad with curry powder in it. That is a trend that I wish would pass.
-
Here's the Danny Kaye salad recipe:
https://bradencookbook.com/chicken_salad_a_la_danny_kaye___.htm
To make it easier, use leftover rotisserie chicken.

Good morning, friends.

Thanks for the recipe, DR John G.

On a whim, I went to the website of my local Walgreens this morning, and found I was able to book an appointment this afternoon for both of us to get our flu and COVID vaccines. Huzzah! They even gave a choice of Pfizer or Moderna.
-
I chose Pfizer, since historically we've had a less severe reaction to it.
-
A Walgreen’s website whim? Wonderful!
-
I had a copy of Prince of Darkness that I never did watch! Though maybe I saw it on cable prior. But yeah, I like Carpenter. He has an intriguing body of work with a strong point of view. There’s usually what William Goldman would call “moments” in his films that stand outside the norm, technically, humorously, or by having unexpected heart. It’s not all great, but it’s all at least interesting. And some are great. Like Big Trouble in Little China.
-
I should watch that one. I wish I'd gone to see it in theeders, but I've only ever seen it on home video.
-
My doctor's office is closed for the weekend.
-
I like chicken salad and fried chicken and chicken nuggets sometimes.
And I especially like chicken and noodles.
-
My doctors place has shortened Saturday hours, but only on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month.
MONDAY, TUESDAY, THURSDAY
8:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
WEDNESDAY AND FRIDAY
8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
SATURDAY
9:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Open the 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month.

Just came back from cleaning up debris from the neighboring property that was washed onto the church parking lot. It must have been quite a river yesterday; some heavy things got washed quite a ways. Mostly from their scrap wood pile.
-
Our PCP's office is part of a huge hospital system group. They are closed on weekends, but there's someone on call in case of an emergency. Which we have found is not usually very helpful.
-
I enjoyed the first two episodes of Lynley. I'm not sure Keith did or that we will be watching it again.

OK then, I'm probably wrong in thinking we had Saturday morning hours before. I'm also no doubt conflating it with the vet's office which is open in the morning but the doctor isn't there. I'm glad to hear I'm not exactly deprived here (for then I would be depraved, as we all know).

Wow, some doctors even take Fridays off now.
It is my pharmacy that gives me the option to make prescriptions automatic. Of course that is only for standard prescriptions that are always renewed at the same amount.
-

Same here though I haven't booked ours yet. Covid doesn't seem high here yet so we might wait until after my doctor's appointment on the 1st.

You are always there doing extra work for your church.

When I went to Urgent Care we chose one that was part of the hospital system my primary is with. That was a good choice.

The place I go to now does have Saturday hours, but my primary care provider (he's a physician assistant) doesn't work weekends.

I just realized that I posted about doctors' hours and refilling prescriptions on the day that the topic is: REFILLING THE PRESCRIPTIONS.
Seriously. That was not deliberate. It was due to the pill bottle sitting on my desk as a reminder.

I got my 2025 MEDICARE AND YOU booklet.

And my 2026 Humana Update.....
Lots of interesting reading.
Because I also got my September Humana statement...
-
How long, Oh Lord, how long will we have to put up with stupid idiot DJT.....just die already.
-
This is the first year Skip and I each got our own copies of MEDICARE AND YOU.
A kind of milestone.
-
They came on separate days. I wonder if it's because both copies of MEDICARE AND YOU couldn't fit in the mailbox at the same time.

During all the Access-a-Ride madness yesterday around 11:30, while I was trying to get AAR to send a damned car, I got a call from the nice neighbor above me. She said an ambulance had pulled up to the building, and she was told they were gong to the third floor. She was afraid they were coming for me. I assured her I was fine. When I got home, we spoke. She said she thinks something might have happened to one of the men working on the roof.

I'll get that when I do the mail place tomorrow.

Debating whether to make tuna pasta salad for tomorrow and Monday, but I think I'll wait until mid-week to do that.

Home from a long evening.

Watching the first mystery from season 11 of Brokenwood.

The pie was good, but it wasn’t as good as a straightforward pecan pie.
-
Had a frozen pizza so I had some of that - I cooked it, of course, and, of course, burned the roof of my mouth. I hate when that happens.

Watched part four and final of the teen hacker documentary. I can't say I care for Finland's justice system. The psychopath was sentenced to six years in jail. His lawyer appealed. Apparently, the appeal will take years, so, they let him out. I don't think there's an ankle monitor either, so what's to prevent the prick from fleeing the country.
-
The final wrapup of the first Brokenwood mystery was disturbing. Very Greek tragedy.
-
But it's time for bed.

Though page five is a young page.

Tomorrow, Shelly and I are going to the Washington Center to see Charlie Chaplin's The Gold Rush (https://www.washingtoncenter.org/event/silent-movie-chaplins-the-gold-rush-2025-09-28/), with live organ music accompaniment by Dennis James on their 1924 Wurlitzer organ!
-
I usually volunteer for this event, but I didn't sign up in time, but I got a voucher for volunteering for 40+ hours which gives two free tickets for one event (from a limited list)!
-
About the show:
Experience silent films the way they were meant to be seen and heard, accompanied by Dennis James on our 1924 Wurlitzer organ! The Gold Rush is one of Charlie Chaplin’s most celebrated films. In the film, a prospector goes to the Klondike during the 1890s gold rush in hopes of making his fortune, and is smitten with a girl he sees in a dance hall.
-
Just off the phone from a very long forty-five minute call. Must write some damn notes in a damn hurry.
-
And go.
-
And get me off this damn page.
-
Put me on another stage.
-
Dennis James, the organist, always talks about the movies and the music that he plays. He also talks about historical perspective, and a couple of times, he even had live singers performing songs related to the movies!
-
Our seats are in the loge, which is the lowest of the three balconies, and they're great seats.
-
I know all the volunteers and will visit.
-
My friend Margo is also going as a patron, so that'll be fun, too.
-
It's always fun when we come as patrons and are able to just enjoy the show.
-
...and get items from concessions, since I volunteer there, too.
-
;D
-
After the silent movie, we have to pick up some stuff at Home Depot that I had ordered.
-
I need to finish some home projects that were started but not finished. ::)
-
Margo knows this handyman and he's going to work on stuff on Monday and Tuesday.
-
He sent me a list of what he doesn't have but will need, and I was able to get most of the items.
-
I will also buy the two new toilets that I need...and have needed for a while.
-
Those will FINALLY be replaced! ;D
-
I can't wait...but I must.
-
And now...
