Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke on how to sell a movie, and now it is time for you to post until the selling cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: ESEMPLASTIC!

Good morning, all!

Speaking of Morton Gould and speaking of Windjammer… I can’t find that that soundtrack LP was ever released in a digital format in these here United States. Only a 2-CD deluxe set in the UK and Austria.
-
Who knows where the time goes? The alarm rang at 5:45, and I got up and dressed. I then decided I was too tired to move, so I lay back down with Stella and fell asleep. When I did get up, I had to rush to the bathroom instead of my usual turning on the TV and logging on to the computer. I then got breakfast for me and the cats, sat down at the c and saw the tie was 7:50, a full hour later than usual.
-
Wonder what it was like to see Windjammer in the Cinemiracle process.
-
Good morning, Elmore! It is 5:30 here so maybe my next two hours will disappear as yours did.
-
I have much to accomplish today: basement and mail boxes, a cleanup of Stella vomit, and a letter regarding Moonshine & Mistletoe arrangements.

Ushering tonight for the Philharmonic. Brahms First Symphony on the program.
I don't know how in the HELL I first read that as "Brahms First Symphony on the organ" - but I'm glad to see I was wrong.
-
I don’t think there’s an organ.
-
Never saw Windjammer at the theeder, but I should take out the Blu-ray and watch it again in "SmileBox" format.
I bought every one of those Cinerama releases. Some parts of the films can be rather 'eh', but I love the presentations and extensive documentation. David Strohmaier is a miracle worker.

Wow DR FREDDIE those bows take a LONG time.

It is 65 degrees here headed for 75 degrees.

I watched the EXTRAS disc for That Thing You Do which was fun.....

Yes I was just watching a little YouTube video about the lengths he had to go to to restore Windjammer. Dedication!

I only saw MACABRE for the first time a few years ago.
Everything MR BK says about it is true!

TOD
TV -- Well, let's see. Last night on TCM (it was Angela Lansbury night) I got through both Gaslight and The Picture of Dorian Gray before conking out. And the first couple of scenes of The Manchurian Candidate. (I fought bravely, but Mr. Sandman won out.)
Blu-ray -- A few nights ago in my Twilight Time travels, I watched The Sound and the Fury (1959). (Did I already post this? I hope not.) I thought I hadn't watched this one, but I recognized one thread running through it, so I guess I'd simply forgotten much of it. But what a movie, and what a story. And the cast -- I'd never appreciated the young Joanne Woodward like I did in this. Confession: To the best of my recollection, I've never read any Faulkner. This makes me want to begin.
CD -- I've been listening to some of the Kritzerland / Ben Bagley albums in the car, and have been hugely enjoying a few that I hadn't previously heard. This week's pleasure was George Gershwin Revisited, but it contained a real surprise for me, which brings us to: Confession #2. I somehow never knew about the 1928 Paul Whiteman version of the Concerto in F, so when it started playing, I was stunned ... at the arrangement, the orchestration, the playing style, the recorded sound ... all of it. This will require further study on the Big Speakers.
-
I know I've watched Macabre. But I literally never remember it. The couple or few times I've watched, I always hoped it was something really great that I'd forgotten. It's too bad it's his worst, with such a perfect title.
-
The first time I saw Gaslight - I believe it was my first year living in L.A. (1972) - it was run as a double feature with North by Northwest at either the Fine Arts or Music Hall. I'm thinking the latter, but I'll have to look it up. I just always remember it being on Wilshire. Anyway, I thrilled to it, and I thought that seeing NxNW after it made it one of the best revival double features ever. You got a magnificent 1940s b&w thriller followed by the most magnificent 1959 color thriller, and life didn't get much better than that.
-
What's funny is that a few weeks (or a couple of months?) later, this little storefront place a block west of the Chinese showed the same double feature ... in 16mm! I was still learning the theeders around town, and went to that address not knowing what I'd find. I believe we sat on chairs set up in the room (not an auditorium, a "room"), and the projector was just behind a partition of sorts. Crazy. But you know what? I enjoyed the two films together all over again. I'd told a friend about that pairing. He went to it there and agreed it was a winner.
EDIT: According to Cinema Treasures where I'd researched this once, it was called the Bijou from August 1971 to August 1973, showing mainstream films. For years before and after that period, it showed all-male adult movies under various names.
-
Wonder what it was like to see Windjammer in the Cinemiracle process.
Wish I'd been around to see it there!

It is 65 degrees here headed for 75 degrees.
A few clouds but mostly clear.
That's something that depresses me around this time of year - the difference between the glorious Midwest and the damned Northeast. My family in Ohio and DRs Ginny and Jrand75 enjoy an extended warm season. We're barely scraping 60 degrees these past few days, and DR Jrand75 is looking at 75. You have some cool weather, but then it bounces back.
Along with that, y'all get extended evening hours! The difference between the eastern and western edges of a given time zone makes the Ohio-Indiana daylight hours an hour or so longer than ours in the evening.
DR Jrand75, Indiana is split between eastern and central, is it not? And you're just inside the eastern portion?
-
I sure have taken up a lot of space here this morning. It's time to get offen
the bush my ASS and do something.
-
Keep going, Chas. That nice round 39,000 Millstone could be here by the weekend if not sooner.
-
Good morning.
-
Went to another plant sale. I only had cash to buy two plants, which is almost a shame, because these are two non-commercially available native plants. I would have loved to have bought more.
-
Yes DR CHAS SMITH I am in the Eastern Time Zone.
Central Time is observed in the northwest and southwest counties of the state.
Every year during the legislative term, someone starts arguing that the state should be in ONE zone and the idiots spend a couple of days talking about it but NEVER reach a conclusion.

I did like that it stayed lighter later when we lived in Michigan. Other than that I don't recall preferring the weather to the East Coast-lol

It was a shock for us to leave at 7:00am IN THE DARK!

We went to my new rheumatologist who created an early appointment time in order to see me quickly.

I could cry with relief she is so wonderful.

Break a leg, DR George!
-
Last night in film class we watched I'll See You in My Dreams, a 2015 film starring Blythe Danner. It was an example of the "timeless" theme for great movies - dealing with timeless themes in a real way. It sure delivered - highly recommended.
-
Originally he was going to screen Before Sunrise, but someone reminded him of this movie and he correctly surmised that lots of us had already seen Before Sunrise, but few if any of us would have seen I'll See You in My Dreams. I'm very happy he made that switch.
-
As an example of how it's not enough to have timeless themes, you have to make them real, he showed three examples of the scene where Romeo and Juliet meet: Petrie's 2017 version, Cukor's 1936 version, and Zeffirelli's 1968 version. Only one of those three scenes really work.
-
Oy! Dare I confess to not having seen any of those? The Before... movies or I'll See You In My Dreams?
(Confession #3. That's about enough confessin' for one day.)
-
We went to my new rheumatologist who created an early appointment time in order to see me quickly.
Fabulous!
-
I confess I have never seen the film of The Sound and the Fury before.
I have read the book several times and loved it. Even wanted to make an opera out of it, with the overture being Benjy’s story. I saw a stage full of clocks for Quentin’s story since he’s running out of time.
-
I'm still alive but the morning has been one hell followed by another. The HRA has denied my food stamps since my monthly income is more than the $1,300/month it has decided is the limit for their clients. At the moment I need groceries, cat food, and kitty litter, none of which I can purchase.
-

That's an awfully low threshold for New York City! Do they count social security when adding up to that $1,300 per month limit?
-
The next Faulkner I will read is The Reivers. I enjoyed the movie but haven’t read the book
-
I confess I have never seen the film of The Sound and the Fury before.

In what capacity? Would you have produced the opera, or co-written it, or stage it, etc?
-
I blow hot and cold with Faulkner. I love some of his works, really dislike others. On the plus side are As I Lay Dying, Sound/Fury, Mosquitoes and the short stories. Dislike Absolom, Absolom and Intruder in the Dust.
-
Vibes and hugs for Larry. That just doesn’t sound right.
-
I'm up, I'm up - eight and a half hours of very good sleep.
-
Re Windjammer - it sounded great from the ads. My father took me as a surprise during summer vacation. It was certainly huge and impressive, but by the halfway point we were both really bored and I think we left at intermission, which, for me, would have been VERY unusual. My father told me it was also not as impressive as Cinerama but I wouldn't see THAT until the 1960 reissue.
-
Break legs for George.
-
Zeffirelli will always be my favorite R/J.

Good news DR JANE!

Yep! My monthly income without help from outside work, royalties, etc., is $2200/month from Social Security and union pension. I need $200/month at least from other sources, which isn't coming down the pike at the moment. I'm still hoping I will make money from the ballet, the book or Moonshine & Mistletoe.

It does seem like great fodder for an opera.
That "several times" is certainly impressive! I just looked, and I don't have it. I only have Go Down, Moses and the Viking Portable Library which I believe is short stories and maybe some miscellaneous writings.

Oh, no. :(
-
I best know her from The Collector which I've seen and loved multiple times over the years, and Dr. Dolittle which I only saw once back in the day.
-
A question for anyone who frequents the IMDb:
Does that site take way longer to load for you than it used to? Fairly recently, I mean. I'm seeing this on all my devices, so I'm pretty sure it's not just me. It's ridiculous, especially when the site first loads, the amount of lag before you can even type in your search word(s). But does anyone else notice that as well?
I know they've never stopped whoring it up over the years, but whatever they've done recently (probably adding more fancy ads 'n shit) is bogging it down something horrible.

Sure, it's not like these were blockbusters or anything. More to look forward to!
I haven't seen the last Before movie as it didn't sound like a continuation of the story that I wanted to see.
-
Zeffirelli will always be my favorite R/J.
Amazing how everybody knew what the great one was of those three. :)
-

Mine, too. The MGM film is really bad.
The one with the ancient Norma Shearer as a 14-year-old? Ludicrous.
Leslie Howard as Romeo was even older and just as ludicrous.
But at least they could speak the text, which is more than could be said for the Juliet in the 2017 version.
-
Now we have to watch (or rewatch) movies at home this week so that we're prepared to discuss great scenes at next week's class. We have a list of 21 to choose from. Normally we'd just have to see one, but since my wife and I are both taking the class we'll need to see two if we watch them together.
-
That doesn't sound like a hardship for you ;)

Keith got Wordle in four.

Anyone familiar with the 1954 Laurence Harvey Romeo?
I think that was the first one I ever saw, on TV in the early 1960s. I recorded scenes from it on my "Crowncorder" 5"-reel portable tape recorder (the main memory I associate with that recorder).

Very nice. I'll listen to the whole piece after I get home. :)
-
Finished with my viewing but not with WHAT I'm viewing. Which is LONG.
-
And opening night has ended! We had a great crowd and no major mistakes that I noticed...except that I was distracted and forgot to move a set piece off. ::)
-
Most fortunately, the other person was able to move it without too much trouble. It's just easier with two.
-
Now, I'm heading home.
Be back later.
-
Another opening of another show! Great work.
-
Let’s get this Windjammer headed seaward towards the next page
-
I found a 45 last week, a Sherman Brothers song called “The Truth About Youth” by Annette Funicello.
-
B-side is “I Can’t do the Sum” from Toyland.
-
Produced by Camarata.
-
Bills, bills, bills…
The price of milk and eggs and bread is rising every day.
Now with our bank book in the red, these bills are hard to pay.

-
Oh, and I'm home.
-
A few audience members stood during the bows, but I think they mainly were family members.
-
I don't think the entire audience gave a standing O.
-
Now that opening night is out of the way, we can settle in for the rest of the run and enjoy it all.
-
And maybe I can a actially learn a couple of lyrics that I haven't solidified yet. ::)
-
SSHHHHHH!!! Don't tell the music director (who is also the director...and the lighting designer)!
-
Tomorrow is the all-across-America No Kings Protest (https://www.nokings.org/).
-
It could end up being the largest protest in the country ever!
-
I'm going to Olympia's protest up by the state capitol buildings on Capitol Way.
-
So earlier tonight, I was on Twitter (currently known as X) and there was a trending subject about the difficulty of the Wordle Word that was released on October 18...which is tomorrow!
-
AND, they showed the word! :o
-
This was before the show started, but I had to set down my phone for a bit and when I came back to it, that link/trending topic was no longer there (that I could find).
-
And now, for something completely different:
-
:))
-
Did Singdaw ever get back online?
-
I'm here.
-
New notes are up.
-
Up are new notes.
-
I've seen them.
-
I've read them.
-
I wrote them.
-
Glad George's show went well.
-
On with the show.
-
For those in the know.
-
Let's tie a bow.
-
I've Gotta Crow.
-
Where's the dough?
-
Go with the flow.
-
Let's grow.
-
Even though.
-
Larry, Curly, and Moe.
-
A cup of Joe.
-
At least we got past page six.
-
That's a step in the right direction.
-
That's a move forward.
-
Every little bit helps.
