We went to my new rheumatologist who created an early appointment time in order to see me quickly.

I confess I have never seen the film of The Sound and the Fury before.
I have read the book several times and loved it. Even wanted to make an opera out of it, with the overture being Benjy’s story. I saw a stage full of clocks for Quentin’s story since he’s running out of time.

I'm still alive but the morning has been one hell followed by another. The HRA has denied my food stamps since my monthly income is more than the $1,300/month it has decided is the limit for their clients. At the moment I need groceries, cat food, and kitty litter, none of which I can purchase.

That's an awfully low threshold for New York City!  Do they count social security when adding up to that $1,300 per month limit?

The next Faulkner I will read is The Reivers. I enjoyed the movie but haven’t read the book

In what capacity?  Would you have produced the opera, or co-written it, or stage it, etc?

I blow hot and cold with Faulkner. I love some of his works, really dislike others. On the plus side are As I Lay Dying, Sound/Fury, Mosquitoes and the short stories. Dislike Absolom, Absolom and Intruder in the Dust.

Re Windjammer - it sounded great from the ads. My father took me as a surprise during summer vacation. It was certainly huge and impressive, but by the halfway point we were both really bored and I think we left at intermission, which, for me, would have been VERY unusual. My father told me it was also not as impressive as Cinerama but I wouldn't see THAT until the 1960 reissue.

Yep! My monthly income without help from outside work, royalties, etc., is $2200/month from Social Security and union pension. I need $200/month at least from other sources, which isn't coming down the pike at the moment. I'm still hoping I will make money from the ballet, the book or Moonshine & Mistletoe.

The one with the ancient Norma Shearer as a 14-year-old? Ludicrous.

Last night in film class we watched I'll See You in My Dreams, a 2015 film starring Blythe Danner. It was an example of the "timeless" theme for great movies - dealing with timeless themes in a real way. It sure delivered - highly recommended.

Blythe Danner is always wonderful.  I know I saw the film when it was released, still I enjoyed watching the trailer just now.

It does seem like great fodder for an opera.

That "several times" is certainly impressive! I just looked, and I don't have it. I only have Go Down, Moses and the Viking Portable Library which I believe is short stories and maybe some miscellaneous writings.
