Well, you've read the notes, the notes had both string quartets and Scorsese, and now it is time for you to post until the stringy cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: MUSE!
-
That was a great review of "the little upstart movie." ;)

Wordle 1,582 4/6
🟨⬜⬜⬜⬜
⬜⬜🟨🟨⬜
🟨🟩🟩🟩⬜

So, the Wordle Word that was mentioned in the Twitter trendings that I'd read last night really was today's word. But I got distracted and genuinely couldn't remember the word by the time I went to do it until after my third guess. Then, my fourth guess could only be one of two words, and I "guessed" the way I usually do, so that really does represent a genuine attempt.
-
That's my story and I'm sticking to it. ;)
-
Today is going to be a day. I'm going to the No Kings Protest in Olympia, then I might go to a TAO Board meeting (depending on the ending time of the protest), then tonight's J&H performance.
But first, to bed. Have a good day, all!
-
George, congratulations on a successful opening night!
-
That was a great review of "the little upstart movie." ;)
Yes, lovely to read that New York Post review by Judith Crist!
-
Since "The Act" is mentioned in the notes -
Liza Minnelli, "City Lights" from "The Act," Tony Awards show
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uz0NoqT90Do
-
The caption says it was the 1975 Tony Awards, but it was 1978.
-
Good morning, all!
-
I am still seething over the Fat Orange Felon's pardoning of that scumbag "just a rogue, my ass" George Santos. The Fat Orange Slug is the patron saint of Rethuglican criminals. If Jeffrey Dahmer had sent Tramp a fawning "how do I love you let me count the ways" letter, he'd be a free man now.
-
DR George, I'm so happy you had a successful opening night!
-

To one and all participatng in today's "No Kings" protest, please be careful. The Rethuglicans are lying their fat heads off to incite violence or reaction from their idiot followers.
-
Since my standing and protesting days are past events, I'm not sure how I will be spending the day. I do have much tidying up to accomplish.
-
Last night I watched the first two episodes of season 2 of The Marlow Murder Club, which seems to be two different murder mysteries. The first two episodes are based on Robert Thorogood's second Marlow book, Death Comes to Marlow. Episode 3, which I began and will finish today, is another murder case.
While I loved the first series, this second ne isn't as much fun; the ladies are still wonderful, but the charm is off.
-
Good morning, all.
-
It's a Saturday (right?), but a hugely busy one with things that must get done.
-
I don't think I ever had any of those Hollywood String Quartet recordings. Not a one!
Will have to ketchup on hearing some of those.
-
Must run, for now. Later!!
-
Good morning, all.

I sorta felt the same. Some of the charm of the first season evaporated. But I watched the whole season.

TOD:
Francie and Johnny are not likable people in New York, New York, but the music they make is what I love about the movie.
The King of Comedy
Taxi Driver
The Departed
After Hours
There are quite a few Scorsese movies I actively dislike:
The Wolf of Wall Street
Gangs of New York
The Age of Innocence (only Joanne Woodward’s narration understands that it’s all a comedy, the bleakest of comedies, but I laughed on every page of the book)
The Aviator
-
Nice day.
Thunderstorms are predicted for this afternoon.
-
All of the Repooplicans are calling today's protests the I Hate America rallies.
It is sickening to hear them all saying the same thing trying to get their base riled up - which they are doing.
A short film on Facebook yesterday had a couple wearing the usual hat and telling them man making the video: "Our kids stopped speaking to us and we don't care - and you really think anything you say is going to change our minds about Trump?"
-
I admire more than like Raging Bull. I’m fairly neutral about GoodFellas, The Irishman, Cape Fear and Mean Streets. Don’t remember much about The Silence. I want to see the latest because I read the book.
-
Hateful but not unexpected news about Santos.
-
DR RODZINSKI is your latest 45 rpm find on the Disneyland label or the Vista label?
-
Sun is shining.
-
Page Two
-
DR CHAS SMITH the Laurence Harvey R/J is on Screenpix now and then.
It's okay.....but all of the tights the men wear are so baggy.
-
DR RODZINSKI is your latest 45 rpm find on the Disneyland label or the Vista label?
It was actually on the Sparton label, which was a Canadian label that licensed US stuff.
-
I would think BK would find things to enjoy in After Hours, maybe my fave. I remember liking Mean Streets, but would I still? I remember disliking Goodfellas, but would I still?
I loathed Cape Fear and would still.
Raging Bull and Taxi Driver are objectively good, but do I need to see them again?
I like Scorsese’s film appreciation but am not that wild about his aesthetic, I suppose.
-
I like King of Comedy, but man, do my hands sweat watching that.
-
DR Kevin, good on your Wordle score yesterday.
-
George, thanks from Keith.
-
Thank you DR Freddie.
-
DR George, I'm glad you had a great evening.
-
DR George, good for you going to the protest today. I hope it goes well.
-
We discussed going to our local protest, however, we are staying home. I feel guilty about that. With my big test on Monday we don't feel comfortable going.
-
From George:
So earlier tonight, I was on Twitter (currently known as X) and there was a trending subject about the difficulty of the Wordle Word that was released on October 18...which is tomorrow!
:o
-
AND, they showed the word! :o
>:(

Yes, it was expected.

An orange lemon chess pie is in the oven.
-
The recipe doesn’t tell me how long to bake it.

Guesswork.
-
Interesting label news DR RODZINSKI.
-
TOD:
I would guess The King Of Comedy

It was a very good event the first time.
-
Not too many people here yet.

The worst thing (so far?) is that I forgot my sunglasses in my car. Dopey me!

George, thanks from Keith.
Keith is welcome!

My friend Shelly doesn't feel up to standing for up to five hours, so she isn't here, either. :-\

I'm up, I'm up - seven hours of sleep, I think. Was up at ten.

Good luck though I expect you will be ok.

I didn't realize how long people will be standing. I have a friend in NY with MS who needs leg braces to walk and hike. She really is amazing, and she is at the protest.

Today's Wordle: 3/6
-
TOD: I haven't seen that many Scorsese films, but my my favorites include
Taxi Driver
The Wolf of Wall Street
The Departed
Ones I'm glad to have seen once but don't need to see again:
Goodfellas
Raging Bull
The Irishman
One I liked but don't remember well:
The Last Waltz
One I really disliked:
King of Comedy
-
I'm curious as to why bk found The Wolf of Wall Street reprehensible.
-
Today's Wordle: 3/6
Congrats!
-
I'm curious as to why bk found The Wolf of Wall Street reprehensible.
I can offer my reasons why I hated it: In attempting to show the dangers of capitalism, he manages to make it far too appealing to many people. He managed to do the exact opposite of what he wanted. And the characters are all deplorable. The meme of DiCaprio peeling off endless dollars for extra guacamole sorta sums it up.
-
https://share.google/LWgCXf6kKGV80xjc8
Here it is.
-
It’s like the people who watched Wall Street and wanted to be Gordon Gecko.
-
Mr. Scorsese gets mixed reviews. I, too, like a couple of them that BK doesn't, or doesn't want to watch. Just last year I came to really like Goodfellas, for instance. And I've loved After Hours from the get go. But there are a bunch I've never seen, some because I just haven't gotten around to it, some wholly intentional.
-
Does anyone still want my high-res copy of the missing front page in DR Elmore's book? They're large files, so if you do, tell me whether you want a JPG or PDF, send me your email address, and it shall be done. (I was just cleaning up my desktop a little bit and saw that I have three (3) copies of it sitting there.) :) Or if this one's good enough, just grab it from here.
-
I just looked up a complete list of Scorsese movies. I haven’t seen many of his documentaries. I phased out Shutter Island, which I found laughable, and Kundun, which had nice images but was otherwise forgettable.
I haven’t seen Bringing Out the Dead. Do I want to?

Soon I'll watch Odds Against Tomorrow.

No Kings!

Remember where the Proud Boys got their name.
A "proud boy" is an equestrian term for a "proud-cut" gelding, a male horse that has undergone incomplete castration, resulting in continued, though reduced, testosterone production. This can cause the gelding to exhibit stallion-like behaviors, such as mounting mares or being aggressive.
-
I just watched I Saw What You Did.
It certainly is miles ahead of Macabre......

Yay, JohnG got a nice item - one of the window cards - and someone else grabbed another of the window cards. I think this little eBay thing is fun. I haven't posted anywhere about the Sondheim thing yet.

Watching Odds Against Tomorrow - why I've never seen anything but the main titles of this I have no idea. I love the director, the novelist, the cast, and the score. So, why?
-
I stopped listening to Emma Willis’s memoir when the talk of dementia got a little heavy. So I started Ian McEwan’s latest, What We Can Know, in which a leading character develops dementia. Oh, joy.

I was reading about Robert Ryan recently seems like he was a good dude. He and Belafonte were neighbors and friends.

I think I might drive through Taco Bell before I head home.

There are a couple of local Mexican places (one that's open 24 hours), but the first time I try either of them, I'd like to go in and take the time to peruse their menu before I drive through. :)

Gas the other day was as cheap as I’ve seen it here. $1 a liter, they use Canadian prices since that’s who comes to buy the gas here. I’m not sure the conversion.

3.785 liters to a gallon, so $3.79 a gallon.

Much cheaper than in Canada no matter what.
