Well, you've read the notes, the notes celebrated Mr. Dick Van Dyke, and now it is time for you to post until the celebrating cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: STALWART!

I can't believe I got Wordle in only four guesses! As soon as I got the third word, I realized that there were at least four other words that had the same last four letters (with only three more possible guesses), and literally just happened to guess the right one!

TOD:
The Dick Van Dyke Show is probably my all-time favorite show.
Movies: The Comic, Divorce American Style, What a Way to Go!
-
Topic of the Day (in alphabetical order):
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
The Dick Van Dyke Show
Mary Poppins
And I remember seeing Divorce American Style on TV many years ago...but I barely remember it.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Bad batch of insomnia tonight. Very tired, but no sleep. Wish I could give up this decongestant. It always does this to me.
-
It's not going to be fun when I go back to subbing.
-
Some of those school days start at 7 am
-
Dick Van Dyke has always had great charisma and charm. My favorites of his are The Dick Van Dyke Show and Mary Poppins.
-
Such a fun movie clip in yesterday's notes, John G!
-
And some really nice rhyming by which to turn a page!
-
George, such lovely photos and story of your Christmas Day and the Day After. Even more enjoyable told vixmom-style.
And so nice that your friend David comes from Seattle to be with your family!
-
Good morning, all!

It got really cold last night, and I slept very well. How cold was it? It was so colds that Annabelle was impatient to cuddle under all those blankets. I think Thatch and Stella are tag-teaming me. I'll wake up to find Stella next to me, then wake up later to find Thatch with me. Ar some point around 5:00, I could hear the snow shovels scraping the sidewalks, and i remembered that we had snow last night. I had no reason to climb out of bed so I slept until 6:00, at which point I sat on the edge of the bed pondering my day, my life, mistakes I'd made in the past, failed romances, and death. Then I got chilly and dressed.
-
I have no plans for today; I'm in no mood to sit in a cold basement for 2 hours, so I'm postponing laundry to tomorrow.
-
BK, that Dick van Dyke production of The Music Man played at City Center, I think, in the second year I lived in NYC. I couldn't afford to see anything in those days, so I missed it. Ticket sales were so poor that it closed early, as I recall. I really wanted to see it. Since no one ever talks about it, and you did, please tell us about it.
-
Good morning.
-
Good morning, all.

I am looking out at a winter wonderland. It's not that I feel full of wonder at the spectacle, but more like I wonder how I'm going to get through the cleanup work I have ahead of me. Our plowing neighbor just did the Lord's work, so at least we have a good early start on things. I do NOT look forward to going out in 20-degree (give or take) temperatures when I'm coming out of a lousy cold (I feel much better today, thank you), but much must still be done with the snowblower and all.
-
Looking at the very neat pileup on the rail of the deck, I'll say we got a good seven to eight inches, and that probably means it's deeper out in some areas.
-

Sounds like good promo copy for the much-hoped-for memoirs.

I talk about it, mostly about Meg Bussert's performance, which all by itself made the production worthwhile viewing.. And fun knowing years later that Christian Slater was the Winthrop in that production. (At the time, Christian Slater was growing up in Manhattan Plaza.)
This is the answer to my Google AI query.
"The query points to the 1980 Broadway [actually City Center, as Larry said]
revival of Meredith Willson's musical The Music Man, where Dick Van Dyke starred as Professor Harold Hill, Meg Bussert played Marian Paroo, and a young Christian Slater played the shy Winthrop Paroo, a performance that marked Slater's Broadway debut and earned Bussert a Theatre World Award. "

I didn 't know that! Iggie Wolfington, the original Marcellus, played Mayor Shinn. Meg Bussert is always wonderful. I just love her.

Since BK mentioned Cher in the notes -
It's never a bad time to revisit the "Streetcar Named Desire" Vamp section from the Sonny and Cher Show, with Cher as Blanche, Burt Reynolds as Stanley and Sonny as the trolleyman on that streetcar named Desire.

From DR John,
This movie has it all. Soccer, fights, romance. The best nonsinging moment was when the champion takes a machine gun to the bad guys and his stunning hair seems to flow with his movements. Brilliant.

Welcome home DR MichaelG. I hope the detractions on your flight didn't take away from the excellent film you watched.
Thanks! The flight was great so no problems focusing on the movie. I probably wouldn't have liked it when it came out, but I sure did now.
-
I also finally finished up season one of A Man on the Inside so I can get ready for season two. The combination of Ted Danson and Michael Schur is so consistently great.
-
Saturday afternoon greetings! You probably figured out that Richard and I were away for Christmas week. Last Monday we drove to Wheaton, IL, to spend the holiday with our grandchildren (and their parents, of course). After 3 glorious days, yesterday morning we packed our car and supervised the kiddos while the parents packed their car. We departed for Ohio and they were right behind us on their way to visit the other grandparents in Michigan.
-
The meter was a half a tank. It took less than $20 to fill it up.
That's great!
-
This morning we did some errands and I took an early afternoon nap. I’m about to make a batch of caramel corn to take to a family gathering tomorrow at our niece’s house. She and her sisters are the daughters of Richard’s late older brother. As the elders on that side of their family, we are pleased to have been invited.

Mariah Carey - All I Want for Christmas Is You
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aAkMkVFwAoo

I'd like to know when a turkey sandwich rose to 21.50? And if you add cheese? 23.50. And if you get it at Art's Deli? 29.00. And if you add cheese? 31.50. The world has gone mad.

Re The Music Man - Meg was fine. Dick Van Dyke should have been perfect but he wasn't. He was mush-mouthed (I think it was during his drinking days), hard to understand, and just didn't have his sparkle. I blame a lot of the stuff that didn't work on Michael Kidd, who directed and choreographed. He had, by that time, lost whatever he'd had and he had plenty. That same year or a year later he did Irma la Douce with Priscilla Lopez at the Music Center and that was the worst thing I've ever seen on the stage. He didn't seem to trust the material in either show, frankly. But Van Dyke should have been a natural and he just wasn't.
-
Turkey sandwich has arrived. I get it with American cheese and lettuce. There is literally one tiny leaf of lettuce. Cheapskates.

And here's Darlene's final performance of the song on December 18, 2014:

I'm happy we missed our Christmas storms by being on the east coast. Lick Observatory near us was significantly damaged when one of the telescope shutters tore off and crashed onto the roof of the great hall. We have a singer friend who works up there so her Christmas didn't go quite as planned.

The real problem is that even though there were only five people in our group, and the place was busy but certainly not packed, it took about 50, count 'em, FIFTY minutes to get our food! :o
-
We weren't too concerned because we had no time restrictions/limitations and they were going to be open for many more hours, but still that was much too long to bring any group their food. :P
-
So, we waited and chatted (the real reason we get together), and then eventually got and ate our food.
-
I don't remember what everyone had, but one woman who ordered a steak thought that hers was really good.

I think that everyone else's food was not too bad, but not really special...so, not a bust, but not a new delicious discovery to be revisited anytime soon.
