Indeed DRMATTH his recording of the Tchaik sold a million on the RCA Red label! I love my EP on the RCA Black label, but the concerto isn't complete.

Van was also on Ed Sullivan many times. And there was a biography a few years ago - I don't know if he still plays....I think he has arthritis or something....but I am glad he is getting his Lifetime Achievement Award! I will be watching! It was a shock to see his blonde/red hair the first time on tv!

LOL - I can just hear the kids now.....

JUST CHECKED and Van Cliburn still maintains a heavy concert schedule! He is still out there banging on the Steinway. He also sponsors the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition.

I think Benjamin Kritzter should be in that competition. I don't know why, I just do.

A question for Dear Readers who do NOT celebrate Christmas: How will you be spending December 25th? Are there things you do traditionally? In my case, December 25th is usually a day at the movies followed by dinner at a Chinese restaurant.

Hello, DR's. It's Christmas Eve and I'm VERY thankful that the food poisoning that invaded my body later Monday eve has finally left and I am feeling quite better now. Anyhow, Merry Christmas to all. I will be quite E&T the next week or so as I will be flying off to NYC tomorrow eve for 5 days of fun and shows. I will post if I can find a place to do so. However, I will definately post when I get home before I go to Disneyland. Cheers!

There don't seem to be any editors here, so unless I'm made to do some busy work or help David with notes on a show that isn't mine, I might actually get out of here before four, maybe by one or two. That would be splendidly splendid, as it would give me enough time to do everything without rushing.

I don't really know Something's Afoot. But I thought there was an album done of it.

I was having trouble finding a hat - one that offered ear protection. But yesterday I stumbled upon a makeshift Nepalese shop downtown that sold colorful knit caps with flaps. I bought one for $15, and when I plopped it on my head before taking Archie the spaniel for his walk last night, Gord had to tell me that I looked just like John Gielgud in Lost Horizon.

Regardless, I really like the new hat - much the way Steve Lawrence liked his "New Pair of Shoes" (A What Makes Sammy Run reference.) I was trying to think of other songs about new clothes or accessories. Anybody?

I watched Whoopi Goldberg's new show on TV last night. I was not impressed. I have always thought she was a very funny lady, but this show stank! Some of the actors were horrible and the writing was just not funny.

I agree with DR MBarnum on Whoopi (very funny) and her TV show (dud). I've seen a few episodes, including one in which President Bush (a not-great lookalike) had to use the WC in Whoopi's hotel. Things soon became preachy. One show that always gets laughs out of me is the never-preachy King of Queens.

MBarnum: Gumnaam is the only full-length film I've seen - otherwise just excerpts.

I did write a Christmas song about fifteen years ago - I can sort of recall the music and the intent of the lyric, but I'd have to dig it out. Never recorded or even sung in public, though.

Best news: I'm done for the day (although I'll put in three hours on Saturday as a favor).

bk - "The straw that broke the Kimmel's back" - My hat is off to you. I was villed with a vague ennui myself until I read that and laughed out loud.

DR Jrand53 - I'm trying not to drive to too many places today because it will be MADNESS out there. Tonight I'll drive to bk's partay and sample all the delicious food he's made. Maybe the shtupping geese will still be in the tub. I've seen all sorts of animals shtupping - but never geese.
I like the look of that Edsel. It's too late to get it in time for the partay, though. Shame. What a sensation I would've made, pulling in front of chez Kimmel in that gorgeous thing.

For anyone who missed my late night post - I highly recommend IN AMERICA.

Very soon I'm going to be leaving to go to my parent's house. We do most of our Christmas celebrating and present-opening on Christmas eve (tonight!) because of my niece and her "other" (father's) family. Don't worry, both sides of the family are all actually quite close, even after my sister's divorce.

I hope everyone has a great day and evening today and great day tomorrow! And that we all have a good time during this late December time of year.

BK--Lately, I've been experimenting with recording myself doing songs, and I was wondering what is the average amount of takes it takes one of your repertory singers to nail the song?

I can't wait to open my Christmas presents...I know one of them is the Wicked OCR!!
