-And I'm actually fond of the stage works A Night in the Ukraine (preceded by A Day In Hollywood) as well as The Cocoanuts.

RE: The Tony Noms - No real surprises. Really, I don't think were any surprises. -Unless some idiot thinks Sean "Puffy" Combs should have gotten a Best Leading Actor nomination... ugh! As far as Joe Manello not getting nommed for Wicked, no real surprise there either - imho.

For me, the one race I'm most excited about is the Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical. I'm so happy that Anika Noni Rose got nominated. It's a pretty solid category - imho.

The only confusing thing to me is in Caroline, or Change's nomination for Best Original Score. Jeanine Tesori and Tony Kushner are listed... and not just Jeanine. Hmm... I shall have to investigate further...

On a related note - and I've hinted at this in previous posts... I've been talking with a bunch of friends and professional acquaintances in New York over the past couple of weeks, and to them - and to others - there seems to be sense that Caroline, or Change should win in the proverbial air. -No matter how much you liked it - or didn't like it. It's the classic case of "Who will win?" and "Who should win?" Again, I liked Caroline, but I thought it was more interesting than good. Maybe some of the tweaks they made for the move uptown have "improved" the show, but since I won't be able to see the show again until after the Tonys... We shall see. -And, again, I'm really pulling for Avenue Q... But I guess we can save our Tony picks for a few weeks from now.

And on another related note - The Washington, DC "Tonys" are being held tonight - The Helen Hayes Awards. Alas, I shall be taking it easy at home tonight, but I just wanted to put out a collective "Congratulations!" to all my friends who got nominated! -You better thank me in your acceptance speeches!!

I'm disappointed I missed them announcing the Tony nominations. I was watching Amber get her $1 million dollars for Survivor.

Btw, will they do "Popular" from WICKED? It is such a catchy tune, although it definitely showcases Kristin more than Idina. Could they do a medley?

Someone working at CBS knew who the final two were, and lists have been circulating for months that the final two were Rob and Amber. So that was no surprise. (I didn't watch SURVIVOR All-Stars at all). But remembering the hatred Rob generated his first time around, and reading the synopses each week of the episodes, I had a hard time believing it wasn't going to be Amber. However, I saw that the vote was VERY close. Some people obviously appreciated Rob's manipulations.

The vote was actually 4-3. It was very close and I think Rob should have won. He was my choice. He has been my favorite since the first episode.

He did get $250K though. And he proposed to Amber on live tv.

Yes I enjoyed that CANDIDE very much. It's the NYCO production which I saw about 12 years ago and which is being done again next Spring.

Unless they tape "Defying Gravity" at the Gershwin I don't think they will do it. If they are smart, the will showcase both leading ladies. I'm just curious as to what they will do for AVENUE Q... much of it is a little to "adult" for broadcast television, and with the wardrobe mishap earlier this season on CBS, I think they will be very careful.
