I was saying I would keep most of my donations local.  I would give to the Wildlife Lodge and clinic,that rescues orphaned animals and injured animals, brings them back to health and then released them back into the wild.   I would donate to a nonprofit that is providing a really unique music experience and not the traditional lessons, although they have those too.  They have lots of scholarships for kids to start music lessons.   There are other pet rescues.  At one time there was a cat rescue, but I haven't seen anything about that in a while.   I would also donate to disasters and urgent needs.

Grabbing a quick cup of coffee and a quick ketchup here, before leaving for the always lovely Lafayette Theater where I shall watch THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH (1934).  Actually, I'm already late getting my arse moving, but I don't mind being just on time or even a little late for that one.  I don't really need to see it this morning but I want to support the theater, and from there I'm driving down to Paramus, NJ to do a little shopping -- something I like to do a couple of times a year.

I used to shop there when we lived in NJ.  How long is your drive to get there?

I'd say an hour and a half, by the time I'm on the main drag (Route 17) where most of the stores are.  At least that's the area I know.  Today I mainly wanted to visit the large Barnes & Noble which has a somewhat better than average movie department, and which also contains the B&N annex of secondhand books, reviewer copies, bargain books, etc., that used to be housed across the street from the original store at Fifth Avenue & 18th St. in Manhattan.  Sadly, either my tastes have tightened up, or their selection of interesting secondhand and "collector's" stuff has become quite watered down.  Oh, the heck with it.  It's mostly the latter.

I was frustrated with the changes of the first one (the reboot), mainly because the characters are all different ages and J.J. Abrams had them all at Star Fleet at the same time.  That didn't make sense.  For this movie, that doesn't matter.  It all seems to make sense and was done very well...and the quality of special effects have been improved since the first movie.

Thank you and all very interesting, in fact more than what I wanted and am glad of it.  Let me re-word my question, between the 3D & the 2D which version did you prefer?

Ahh...I love the size and 3D of the IMAX, but the IMAX 3D was too loud.  But to me, the 2D was cropped more at the top and bottom to make it more widescreen than the IMAX, and seeing it after the IMAX, it all felt just a little too close.  I'm sure that if I had seen the 2D version first (or if I hadn't seen the IMAX at all), then it would be perfectly fine.  I did like that the 2D version as not as loud.  It was quite comfortable without being too quiet.

Most IMAX presentations are set a few notches too loud.  That's confirmed by my manager friend, who says he will occasionally go to the booth and adjust it slightly.  But IMAX does specify a decibel level that's just a little too much.

I was wondering the same thing. And what makes the long drive worthwhile to you?

In addition to the B&N that I've mentioned, and just a couple of other stores, I make sure I go down there hungry so I can enjoy one of the all time great slider style burgers at a little jernt in Hackensack called White Manna (which is what I did today) or simply a really good diner style meal at one of the many really good NJ diners in the area.  But basically, nothing all that exotic or different from everyday life.  I just like to get around to different areas.

I recall clipping an article, maybe as far back as ten years ago, titled something to the effect of "Whatever Happened to Helen Keller?" - meaning, her fame and legacy in today's world.  It looked like something I'd find fascinating, but I don't think I ever got around to reading it (got lots of stuff like that, unfortunately).  I can almost promise that I will find it somewhere in this house, so if/when I do, and if it turns out to be any good, I'll post.

We are having a lovely day.  It was in the mid sixties.  I wore my new New Mexico sweat shirt to our neighbor's house for wine & cheese.  We sat inside to be comfortable and had a very nice visit.

But I forgot to say that it makes sense to go there when I go out to the Lafayette Theater (in Suffern NY, next to Mahwah NJ).  From there it's but a hop, skip and a jump down to Paramus and other things in Northern NJ.

As luck would have it, though, I didn't even make it to the theater this morning.  Unbeknownst to me, a critical section of the Saw Mill Parkway had flooded and the detours were ridiculous, so by the time I was out of that I could see I'd be just late enough for the movie that it was no longer worthwhile going.  But it still made sense to continue on to those other places.

Hallway is the closest to it. They don't really do basements in San Antonio (and if they did, that would likely be under water now).

I think the closest I have to that is a bathroom at the center of the house. All the closets are along the outer walls. Actually, that room is not bad idea.

After Joplin many people got sick from a fungal infection from cuts and the mud and goop.  Joe wrapped himself in a comforter and only had a couple scratches, but didn't get hurt badly and didn't get any infection.   I'm now keeping my bicycle helmet down the basement too. They say that can help if something hits you in the head.
