Last night I had two - count' em TWO! - loverly conversations with our own BK.

I love working with him, and I cannot express how appreciative I am that, although I ended up turning down both Li'l Abner and his LA revue this year, he hasn't written me off. IDoing The Brain From Planet X in 2006 was one of the most fun and wonderful experiences I ever had with a show, and I knew Abner and the Revue weould both be fun and a lot of work because BK works and thinks fast, and you have to keep up.

My bif problem is this old coot is too lousy with computer music preparation to ever finish the revue on time - I could do it by hand and pen and ink in no time! - and Joshie, my Finale wiz, has tried to get me better at it and failed. Add top that the fact that in my current state of health, I couldn't get around LA easily toting writing supplies, cane, and too many mental issues about another spinal attack crippling me further, I thought I could do all the work here and send it to LA. That isn't fair to BK - or to any production - to not be with the show for the final weeks of production, when things really get cooking and a lot of fast, last-minute adjustments need to occur. I think he made a very wise decision to go with the amazing Lanny Meyers. I look forward to hearing all the new songs and I'm cheering for a big success for BK and Co.

Speaking of my darlig Lanny, do you know that he was orchestrator for the Leonard Sillman flop introducing Madeline Kahn, New Faces of 1968? The album's worth having for Kahn's Lotte Lenya number.

I don't thoink there's any Lanny album I do not like, but my current fave is Lanny's recording of BK songs with Sandy Bainum.

Incredible thunderstorms last night. All evening, really, culminating around midnight thirty. Some people told me we were under a tornado watch. I didn't see that myself, but this was wilder and woolier than anything I've experienced, especially in the month of February. Looked out first thing this morning to see if any trees were down, but what I can see from the house looks fine.

DR Elmore, it's not so much that I personally need Finale for anything, but what little bit of time I've spent at trying to learn the most basic basics of it has so far come to naught -- naught in a handbasket (the title of my next unfinished symphony) -- and yet, the Young People all around me are whizzes at it.

When I was a college sophomore (1965), my roommate was a systems analysis major and dealing with something new called "computers." I missed the whole thing. My goddaughter Charlotte comes over, sits in front of my Mac and whizzes around the internet, leaving me agape and agog. I missed the whole computer eraand I think it's that complete lack of training that stymies me with every computer program. I panic and go into a coma.

Lanny's recordings for BK with the late great Michelle Nicastro are really wonderful and worth looking up! Also his ones for Laurie Beechman.

My main keyboard is away till this show closes, so this morning I blew the dust off the digital piano and sat down at it to work on some stuff. I'd just been saying how it was really only taking up space these days, and that's true, but it's also totally crazy. It sounds good and is quite enjoyable to play, and if I need to tote it somewhere it's half the weight of the big ones. I'd honestly been thinking of selling it to gain back the space, and some ca$h, but now I'm not so sure.
