Saturday afternoon greetings!  The upstairs and downstairs Palmers are having a nice day of Christmas cocooning and we even have snow showers to enhance the mood.  I’ve cleaned up the baking mess I made yesterday and done the initial steps of a molded salad and a cheese spread.

Mom’s cookies are the best. She does these chocolate surprise cookies. The base is a chocolate peanut butter cookie. Half way through baking, She puts half a large marshmallow on to, then frosts with a chocolate-coffee icing. Divine.

I don’t have the patience for cookies. I’ll make bar cookies or brownies, Congo squares or the like.

TOD - last weekend I made gingerbread cut-outs and yesterday I made shortbread cut-outs and pecan snowballs.  My shortbread is hard to beat, but Central Pastry’s cut out sugar cookies come close.  Theirs cost $1.50 apiece and mine are priceless.

Last night I ushered for a live version of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. It was performed to a taped accompanimen. Well, something went screwy with the music, so they stopped the show. Then it went out again during the bows.

The youngsters didn’t understand and didn’t seem to mind. I did.

The house smells of glazed ham. I could eat all of it. Too bad it’s for a friend’s dinner.

Her husband has abdominal cancer, and I’m taking the ham, potatoes air gratin, Salad, Guac and chips, and a tart over to their house.

DR Jeanne, very close to our hotel we spied a Sunglass Hut and I made a beeline for it 😃  We got lucky it wasn't crowded.  Later in the day it was packed.

Sometimes seeing a chain store far from home is comforting.

DR Laura I took a photo of the carpet in the hallway near our hotel room.  I can't find your cell number to text it and Keith said not to email it until we are home at our computers.

Please send your number so I can text it.

But they’ve got to be good.  Good ingredients and mouth filling chewy texture, as opposed to hard and cheaply mass produced.

I agree about cheaply massed produced but prefer a bit of crunch to my cookies while Keith prefers the chewy texture.

Jane, Facebook reminded me today that you and Keith were in San Antonio at this time last year. Where did that year go?

So, it is SA for Christmas? San Antonio one year, South Africa another year?

For store-bought cookies, I like those crisp Swedish gingerbread cookies that World Market sells.

Finished Wonder Woman. In the final credits, which go on way too long, I think there is the worst theme song I've heard for a movie in ages.

Hmmm, I should look for them though I expect they are not as good ad Pogens were.  Is there a brand name on the World Market cookies?

Not only is Cape Town lovely but the areas surrounding it are as well.  We took a small group all day tour which included African penguins, a boat ride to Seal Harbour,  Cape of Good Hope, and botanical gardens.  Most of the drive was along the scenic coast which is exceptionally beautiful.

I suppose she will at some point. She says she wants to, but she's got a job, auditions, family and a boyfriend taking up much of her time.

I don't have a smart phone, Jane, so I wouldn't be able to see a photo.
