FAREWELL 2017, HELLO 2018!
« on: December 31, 2017, 12:03:14 AM »

Well, you've read the notes, the notes bid a fond farewell to 2017 and gave a hopeful and positive hello to 2018, and now it is time for you to post until the 2017 cows come home, which will hopefully be in 2018.

Final post about this - I haven't actually made a post about this since the first day it happened, unlike everyone else who's been absolutely relentless about it - like RELENTLESS via e-mail and here and Instagram - it's why I hate these popularity contests.  People have theater companies vote, casts vote, entire schools vote and then when the "winner" is announced they go all "I"m so HONORED." Really? :)  So, this is my second entreaty to 10,000 of my nearest and dearest friends to go play this silly game so I can be HONORED because I need to be HONORED, plus Dial 'M' for Murder was really good.  Here's the direct link - vote if you haven't (here's how others game the system - they have the same people vote from different computers under different e-mail addresses - not that I am advocating THAT), and then have every single person you've ever know also vote, then have every person they've ever known also vote.  After the first two days of voting I was actually in the lead for about twelve minutes.  All right, then, that is my second and final post on this matter and I know you're all grateful that I wasn't doing this every single day. https://www.broadwayworld.com/los-angeles/liveupdate2017region.cfm?btype=2138&region=Los%20Angeles

And if you haven’t already voted for me in the “Best Featured Actor in a Play (local),” under the Seattle Regional Awards, please do so.

I think I would need the entire congregation of vixmom’s church to vote for me to even make dent in my standings, but HEY I made the Top Ten!

Well, today's going to be a day.  I'm meeting my friend Margo and her friend Marsha for lunch at The Rock Wood Fired Pizza.  I just made a reservation on-line!  I've never done that before.  After lunch, Margo and I are going to see"The Greatest Showman."  Marsha has other plans, so she won't go to the movie.  It wasn't my first choice, but I kind of want to see it.

After the movie, I'm going to my parents' house for the evening, but I'll be home before midnight.

Hello.  I was awake at 4:00 this morning, long before the alarm was set to go off.  Our morning safari drive was fun, as was our late morning boat ride where we saw hippos on land as well as in the water.

BK - It would be lovely if you got this for directing!

But when we talk about you, and of course we do (like when we tell people our show's album is on your label), your Grammy nomination and your Best Song MAC award seem to be very impressive to pretty much everybody.  And people know those aren't social-media-driven popularity contests.

I do hope you get this, but you've already gotten much higher honors, plus all your accomplishments.

DR vixmom and I had a wonderful day yesterday.  Good company is the best medicine, and it was a wonderful, crisp wintery day of good company and good humor.

It's supposed to be freezing weather at night here in Austin for the next 3-4 days.

Hopefully, that will dissuade noisy New Year's revelers in our neighborhood, since we're usually asleep by eleven.

As soon as I fed two angry cats - three hour wait for food! - and watched the 8:00 episode of AGATHA RAISIN (PBS, please bing back MIDSOMER MURDERS!), I was ready for bed.  I wanted to sleep in this morning but Annabelle and Thatch want to open their presents from DR vixmom and to get me moving, they held the 2017 Battling Kitty Olympics over my sleeping body.  When Annabelle finishes her bird watching, we'll open their presents.

Larry and vixmom - Are you allowed to tell us what that person at the talkback was trying to stir up controversy about?

The show's around eleven years old, and Jim Morgan was talking about its evolution.  The authors added the quote "Make Arizona Great Again" to the villain's song for this production, and she was trying to force the issue of how much politically the writers were drawing comparison between a lecherous governor in the show and the current lecherous moron calling himself a president.

This led to a discussion of art and its political ramifications, and the woman cleary wanted all to confess, yes, Trump's our villain.  She was like a dog with a bone.

After that issue was passed by to everyone's satisfaction except Miss Lady Dog's, she came back with a Big Inquiry into the sheriff's badge: exactly how many points were on that star? Was it historically accurate? Who decided that?  I felt we were about to be pushed into an accusation of anti-semitism, when Jim Morgan said, the costume designer showed her options to the director and he selected the badge. End of discussion.  She was very unpleasant.  I felt she was cruising for a fight.
