Today was another Dental Day. I was in the chair for three hours as the dentist finished up Root Canal #1. He had a lot of trouble finding all the canals, so it took three visits to do one root canal. I return in two weeks to start Root Canal #2. I hope it goes more smoothly!

Speaking of being well, I was worried that I might not be well enough to see the dentist today. I've been starting to come down with a cold several times, but I take Sambucol and echinacea and it clears up. I was fine today. I really wanted to have this over with.

It's quite stunning. The Countess is one of the greatest "old lady" roles ever written, I do believe, and Celia Johnson is perfection as the Countess of Rousillon. I loved Angela Down as Princess Maria in the BBC War & Peace, and her Helena looks like a Vermeer painting sprung to life. The whole cast is excellent, and the scenes are wonderfully written: the bargain between the King of France (Donald Sinden) and Helena is really scrumptious.

When I got home from the old actor's lunch, Nick was laying in the middle of the hall. When he tried to get up, he was in a lot of pain. I reached down and touched him on the back, and he cried out.

Well, I don’t have the flu, which means the surgery should still be on. I’m taking an antibiotic, Azithromycin, for a few days.

So, I called the vet and she first suggested that I bring him in to the office. I pleaded for an alternate idea. She said that due to his thyroid and renal problems, she had to be careful what she gave him. But she decided we could try these opiates for a few days.

I went and picked them up, and when I got home I have him a dose. It is preloaded in syringes that I spray in his mouth, either on his cheek or under his tongue. After the dose, he wanted a few cookies, then he drank some water, and then he went to bed. I hope that means it is working.

I haven't felt well since yesterday and was worse this morning. Needless to say I got motion sickness on the plane. Thank goodness for barf bags.
