Of all the Oscar nominees, James Ivory is the most worthy. Glad to see him among the nominees for all the years of joy he has given me at the movie theater. I remember hours and hours lost to A Room with a View, The Europeans, Maurice, Heat and Dust, Jane Austen in Manhattan, Slaves of New York, The Bostonians, Howard’s End and so many more.

What are you reading?  Cousin Bette is a great revenge novel I've read several times, and I love the BBC series with Margaret Tyzack and Helen Mirren.

I tried reading Pére Goriot; never finished it.

My sister Linda informs me that Mom is having Dad taken to the hospital. The message isn’t entirely clear but being housebound this winter has taken its toll on him.

Vibes for them both!

A bad bioflick. The books are all good. I’m reading The Bureaucrats now. Delightful, cynical.

Ah yes, DR ELMORE.....The Count of Monte Cristo is most excellent as a book, I haven't seen a really GOOD film version either, although I SORT of liked the Richard Chamberlain tv version.

Another revenge movie:

SON OF FURY with Tyrone Power avenging his parents against his uncle George Sanders who had stolen all of their lands and castles.  Of course it doesn't hurt that he is in love with his cousin.....Frances Farmer.

Ate a couple of sandwiches, picked up a couple of packages, did some banking, then came back and wrote two more pages - six so far, about ten to go I should think.

Oh, no!  Ursula K. Le Guin, Acclaimed for Her Fantasy Fiction, Is Dead at 88.

I didn't realize that she lived in Portland, Oregon.  One of her books was selected for the Timberland Reads Together program several years ago.  She came to Olympia and spoke at the Washington Center for the Performing Arts.  I got to usher for that!

Thanks, Jane, and vibes for good test results.

Thanks.  If it is something, again, it will just be burned or cut out and I will be fine.

Yesterday my sister-in-law Jayne broke her leg and this afternoon will have surgery to insert a plate and pins.  Vibes would be appreciated.

And I have finished the book.  I'm sure I'll have plenty of futzing and finessing to do but I at least have the ending down - in fact, I've been futzing and finessing it for the last hour and I think it's pretty good but I'll see how it feels when I read it with all the pages that went before it.  It's always very emotional to get to the end of a book, and this one was one of THE most emotional.

It came out seven pages shorter than I thought it would but that's fine, and I may add another page or two when I futz and finesse in the morning.
