Must abed - made the mistake of starting to make my way through the complete Ella songbooks - these, some of which I've never heard, are AMAZING!  The Cole Porter is great - and my old pal Buddy Bregman's charts, same for Rodgers and Hart.  Some good listening ahead!

Enjoy Ella, BK!  I have her recording of Porgy and Bess that you mentioned earlier.  I also have the Cleo Laine P&B studio recording.  I enjoy them both.

DR Ginny, have you ever watched The Great British Baking Show?  The wonderful 80 year-old Mary Berry reminds me physically of Loyce Martin.

On Thursday, the cats and I watched Disney's The Cat From Outer Space.  Fantastic cast except for Sandy Duncan, whose charms elude me, and puerile screenplay.  The cat was an adorable tabby.  I've told them That Darn Cat is much better.

A bath gadget sounds interesting. Not that I take baths, but in the past I would just not leave the bathroom while the water was filling. That way I could never forget.

OMG the weather is going to be brutally hot here over the next week. I have never seen a humidex of 45C before. It's going to be like that almost every day.

I know what you mean, Jennifer.  And even if I'm rinsing something out in the bathroom sink, I never trusted myself to leave it running while I left the room, like if the phone rang or something, I'd turn the water off before walking out.  That was even when I was in my 20's!

And BK, why do you tease about a soundtrack title that's not going to be released until next May??  That's just mean.

;)

I agree.  but that's business for ya!  (except I think "dear readers" should get inside info!)

BK, I really enjoyed what you did with "I Wanna Be Like You" on the Kritzerland evenings you did in New York.

i hope this isn't wrong to say in this politically careful era, but having an actor who came across like a leading man but had real comic chops perform that song was inspired and you and he executed it really well.  Can't wait to hear what you came up with for that song this time.

I'll be traveling a large part of next week.  I had to get to Florida at some point soon, and was happily able to time it so I'll be able to spend some time with my mom on her 90th birthday on Tuesday the 3rd.  It turns out mom's booked up until 2:00 (what can I say, she's just busy), so i'll either do some of the work I need to do before that, or maybe spend time with my dad until mom gets home a little after 2, or both.

Then, a young cousin in Dallas, Pennsylvania turns 1 and there's a party on Saturday morning, so I'm thinking  I'll go and stay over Friday night rather than take the bus early Saturday morning.  When I was younger, I'd have done it back and forth in a day, but dealing with the Port Authority crowds and lines for the bus can be stressful, in a way that the trains from Penn Station (like going to Baltimore or D.C.) almost never are.  The train doesn't go to Dallas, PA, unfortunately.

I'll be in New York Thursday, though, so i should be able to do the really important things like ketchup on HHW.   :)

"The train doesn't go to Dallas" - that should be a title of something.  Maybe using the confusion between Dallas, Texas and Dallas, Pennsylvania?  (like Beth Hatikvah being confused with Petach Tikvah in "The Band's Visit")

It was a complete mess getting to my appointment, thanks to the continuously screwed up MTA.  What should have cost me around $1.50 ny senior citizen Metrocard cost me 19.00 by two taxis, thanks to lousy bus scheduling on the part of the MTA.

I am not happy at all.

So, yesterday it got to the mid-80s here. Today we’re looking at 92. Tomorrow’s the big one, at 97, then back to low 90s for a couple of days till this thing has run its course.

You can probably add a few degrees to those for NYC.

Brutal.

DR Elmore, I haven't watched the show, but will try to track down some videos online today.

I don't know that we've ever been in NYC when it's been that hot.  Guess we're in for a new experience...

Looking forward to seeing you next Saturday, DR ChasSmith!

Should I get there earlier and do brunch again?

FJL - Brent Barrett is doing I Wanna Be Like You in the Sherman event - he does it great, too.  And the guy who's doing it in the Kritzerland show, Roger Befeler, is also a leading man.  If Brent likes the bit in the middle, we'll keep it for the event, if not, not.  The big thing we're doing is the new additional verse Richard wrote for the live-action movie of The Jungle Book, that Chris Walken sang.

After listening to the first half of Ella sings Cole I may well repeat the Cole show - that show, which was exactly 45 shows ago, so that's fun, half of 90, was a disappointment to me in certain ways, mostly having to do with the musical director's problems and some casting that wasn't right.  I'd also switch up a few songs, but oh man did Mr. Porter write.
