I sent a Disney gift by email in advance for the baby's first birthday. That way, one less thing to have to think about. The departure by bus from Port Authority is always unpleasant, mainly because the forming of the lines is so disorganized. Departure on the other side from PA back to New York is always a breeze. Scranton always had such a pleasant waiting area, and they made it so much better recently.

The rain just got here.

We're to have a couple hours of it, then things should dry up and tonight's fireworks thing should be a much more pleasant affair than everything else this whole past week has been. We're actually getting "normal" temperatures today through Sunday, with some damn nice open-window sleeping temperatures these first couple of nights. This heat wave has lasted an entire week or longer.

I got to the pharmacy and to the market before the rain landed. I am quite happy.

My neighbor Mark and I went up to look at Apt. 5D. The police clearly tried to break into the apartment. I called Val, who said the acting super must have told the police since he hadn't spoken to them. There was no suicide, only a drunken asshole whose girlfriend Lisa has moved out.

I've made the pasta sauce with tomatoes, black olives, green peppers, and mushrooms. When the grouf pork and beef thaw, I'll brown it with onion and garlic and toss that into the mix as well. It smells great.

Mego is out of surgery and doing quite well!

The surgery was longer than expected. This time around, they found that part of the fat that covers the intestines had necrotized and was probably contributing to the persistent infection. The necrotic portion was removed and the entire abdominal cavity carefully washed out. The fluid draining out of his belly, which had been thick and yellow, is already much clearer. Our greatest fear going into surgery was that his blood pressure would drop again, and it did dip towards the end. But they were able to bring it up quickly with another plasma transfusion, and right now it is looking nice and stable!

Mego may look quiet in this picture, but that's because he is still groggy from the anesthesia. Otherwise, he is doing so well that in a few minutes he is going to get his first meal through the esophageal feeding tube they put in this afternoon.

We would like to thank everybody for their generous support and for sharing Mego's fundraiser. We are not out of the woods just yet, but things are definitely looking up!

We’re now in TriBeCa, where Richard wanted to visit a shop he’s ordered from online. They recommended Walker’s Pub, where we’re having drinks and burgers.
