I'm too young to remember Herb Alpert, but I do remember Chuck Mangione who had his hit, "Feels So Good" in 1977. It's funny, since the song has no lyrics, I never knew the title until I had to look it up to type this post this morning. I liked the song, but not enough to buy it. I think there's been a lot more country/pop cross-over artists than jazz/pop artists. And in fact, I've been told that's all country music is now - it's all country/pop cross-over.

It was the #1 song that brought music from the 1990s to the 2000s, the way IIRC Rupert Holmes had brought the 1970s to the 1980s. It felt significant while it was going on at the time - though for many just a statistic now.
