T.O.D.

The first film that popped into my mind was THE BLACKBOARD JUNGLE w/ Glenn Ford and Sidney Poitier.

Saw it when it first came out and, under the credits, when they were playing "Rock Around the Clock," the whole audience was clapping along with the music.

Monday morning greetings!  Things are much quieter this week than they've been in a long time, calendar-wise.  I'm looking forward to puttering - a lot.

"Judge Jeannine Pirro" on SNL - A bit political at first, but then

- at 1:25, when the drinking stuff starts, it's just funny!

I am home from the doctor and down to 200 lbs.  People keep telling me I've lost weight but I don't see it.

Ms Pirro was a shitty news columnist, a pathetic judge, and an embarrassment as a broadcaster, truly deplorable.

I just spent 45 sweaty minutes moving furniture around to accommodate the air conditioner and realized I didn't need to. Oy!

Strangely, of all works, Legally Blonde years later was more realistic about student life at Harvard Law School than the Paper Chase film -  though it's possible that by 1980, Harvard Law was trying to get rid of that Kingsfield image.

TCB: No, I never met Sierra during her run of Phantom in Las Vegas.   I did meet her after a concert of Brent's in NYC.  I think it was at Birdland.  I remember telling her, knowing how big a fan she was, that Barbra S would be performing in NY a few months later.  She thanked me.  Maybe she already knew and was just being polite.   Brent's partner (now husband) took about 4 photos of Sierra and me and my eyes were closed in every one of them.

Since I neither knowe nor care what Hulu is, I do hope their 6-part Catch-22 will be released on DVD.

ADDENDUM, Part the Second

I’d probably include Up the Down Staircase, To Sir With Love, and The Blackboard Jungle, each of which I *probably* saw years ago but I have scant if any memories of them. I did, however, read UTDS back then, and remember liking it, and it’s very likely I went to the film as soon as it opened. I’d like to watch all three of these now.

I think I fall in with the group of kids cheering at the end of Hope and Glory when the school is bombed.

Oh! I already have the Twilight Time BD of To Sir, With Love. Shame on me for not having already watched it. This is easily remedied.

I would add these!  I love Au Revoir Les Enfants, but it's too painful and heartbreaking to watch again.  I needed to be carried out of the theatre at the end.

I just checked my bank account online.  This morning my rent check for June 2019 cleared.  I am now officially one month ahead on my payments!

That's great, Larry!

So, I have a staff member who's been out on extended medical leave since late January, and today will be her first day back!  She's been cleared (so far) to work two hours a day for the next two weeks.  Then, they'll re-evaluate and hopefully she can work more hours, eventually coming back full time.

Wishing her well on her 1st day back.

Thanks, Jane!  She was here and was kind of in shock at her cleaned office ;) and will just be figuring out what's what again for the next few days.

I always liked the little notes that were passed around that formed a lot of the novel "Up the Down Staircase" - but the movie did quite a nice job of making the very unusual novel into a  linear story.

In some ways, it would be like telling a story today entirely through emails.  It allows different views of the same thing, for example, without breaking the narrative.

Sort of like Searching, where everything is shown (and was filmed) on devices like phones and tablets.
