In a quick stop at the supermarket yesterday I picked up a glazed croissant that was calling my name, because for the past week or so I’d been craving something sweet to enjoy with my coffee in the morning. So I just had it (warmed for a few seconds in the nuker) with my first cup, and it was a little slice of heaven.

I hadn’t indulged that way in quite some time, so it brought back memories of times when I was always doing that, the most notable for me being the years in my little Beverly Hills apartment when I would have bought a dollar bag of donuts at closing time from Stan’s the night before...still the best donut deal of the twentieth century. Those were the days, my friend.

I must have missed out on those deals at Stan's

Patrol was a little creepy this morning.  My neighbor Alice, who's got to be in her late 80's now, may be dying.  She's been in poor health for some time, and I have not seen her in over three or four months.  Her son is here every day and he always says she's doing fine, and I know she has a visiting nurse.  Usually, when we do our patrol on the first floor, the only sounds I hear from the apartment are voices speaking in Spanish - Alice was my neighbor who lived through that dreadful Puerto Rico hurricane several years ago - but this morning the only sounds coming from the apartment were a high pitched whine, like a dog in pain, at very close intervals. 

It freaked Annabelle out and certainly spooked me.  I'm worried that they're sitting death watch, and that saddens me.  Alice is a wonderful lady.

DR TCB I just hope you are feeling better.  We don't have to be home for our yearly fire test as long as management has a key.  Maybe next year you can work something out more suitable for you.  We also are told which building they will begin with.

This morning we learned our granddog Yogi passed away yesterday afternoon at home with the assistance from a veterinarian.  We have been expecting this for almost a year now, still, it is very sad news.  Yogi was 9 days shy of 14.  Found on the steps of Craig's apartment building in Bucharest, Romania at 4 weeks of age, Yogi & Craig had a very special bond.

I am glad Craig was able to find a vet to go to Yogi.  It does make it easier

I'm up, I'm up - five and a half hours of sleep.  My calf cramped during a dream - hate when that happens.  But, if I do the five-mile walk I'm sure I'll work it out.

It'd strange these days with pretty much zero job loyalty either way expected as a norm.  You can see on "linkedin" how often people job hop. And it was strange to see the mostly-wonderful Kamala Harris actually seeming not see people staying in one place for decade or more as not using opportunities in her health insurance talks ( her view being not letting your health insurance be tied to where you work) , almost not getting that so many people are working to pay the rent and bills, fulfillment is secondary.

And it's always good to know how much you're worth.

DR JohnG, I have never heard of Argo insurance.  If they advertise on TV for old folks, I would surely have heard one by now.  What does Google tell you, if anything?  Also, are you interested in changing jobs?

I think it’s seven-year itch. Plus, I’ve done this job for more than two years and it’s time I was paid for it.

And it’s always nice to be wanted. The job they’re going to talk with me about is two levels above my current one.

I am now a physical wreck.  I decided that I had to seriously tackle the roach problem now that I had a (hopefully) pet-safe pesticide. I worked from 12:30-3:00, sprinkling poisoned boric acid, vacuuming the space before I laid out the pesticide and then vacuuming the spill into areas the cats might get to, moving furniture, moving cartons of books, standing, kneeling, and now every joint aches.  I can barely move. 

I think I will take a hot bath after I feed the babies in 15 minutes.

Back from a light breakfast - I know, wasn't going to do it, but I couldn't do the walk because of my sore calf, so...  Then went to Amoeba to kill some time, then picked up packages, now home.

180%!  And hopefully going to infinity and beyond because I got a very dispiriting note from Indiegogo last night - it only took them eight days to respond.  Since December of last year, their policy is to not only take their fees, but to hold 5% of the funds for - SIX MONTHS.  They say it makes it easy on us to do chargebacks and/or refunds.  Well, in all my Indiegogo campaigns I have never ONCE had either occur.  I told them they really have no right to hold MY money for six months, especially as I'll be shipping all the perks as soon as the funds hit the bank.  I asked for a supervisor to look at us specifically and said if someone has never had these problems they should not be punished because others have.  So, what were already big fees, they're now going to withhold even more - six months from now who cares?  I need all of it NOW to, you know, bring the project to fruition.  So, I'm really going to push the campaign as hard as I can and if we're miraculous enough to get to 200%, which I'm hoping we will be, I'm then going to try and push us a bit beyond that so we can actually clear what we need.

Today at the Washington Center, there will be a free reading of the redacted Mueller Report, read by a whole bunch of different local actors.  It'll be in two parts with a half hour break in betwen the two parts.  I'm ushering for the second half and was thinking about going to the first part as a patron.  It starts at 1:00 p.m., and including the break, is scheduled to go until 9:00 p.m.

 Maybe they'll try the "And one for Mueller" drinking game every time Mueller scores a really good point.

DR CHAS SMITH's story about his cat and the medicine reminded me of the old story about the farmer.

He went to the vet and told him that his hog was not interested in the girl pigs and he needed him to get busy and start mating....the vet gave him some medicine for the hog.  And the results were immediate.

A fellow farmer was visiting and commented on the activity.  He asked the farmer what the name of the medicine was.  The farmer said:  "I don't know, but it tastes like peppermint."

The bath was very warm and very welcome.  Stella sat on the edge of the tub to lick my wet shoulder and hand.  She's fascinated by the water but after falling in one day and my washing off that pesticide she got into the next day, she's no longer behaving as if she will jump in to play with me.

Annabelle sat on the toilet seat and observed.  They all liked their dinner.
