I wonder how DR GINNY's appointment went today?

It went fine, DR JRand, thanks for asking.  I’m kind of in charge of my own treatment for now.  He said I can be out of the boot as tolerated, but not to go “cold turkey.”  He also recommended orthotic inserts for my shoes and I have a prescription for physical therapy.  After about 6 weeks (from now), if there’s not significant improvement, the next step is an MRI.

DR Ginny, I've been wearing orthotics for almost ten years and have been very happy with mine. I know many people buy them, then never wear them, but I'm the opposite. Mine were custom-made by a podiatrist. I LOVED the first pair. My feet changed after several years and I had a new pair made, which I like, but don't love, but still would not want to be without them. Not all shoes take the orthotic equally well, though. Overall, for me they've been well worth the cost.

Jeanne do you know what your favorite orthotics were made from?  A couple of years ago I almost purchased a pair made from cork.  The podiatrist said they were the best, and since I have liked shoes with cork soles I considered trying them.

Jane, both of my custom-made orthotics have several different-colored layers to them, then the top layer is leather. It's possible that the very thin layer is cork. Sorry I can't tell you more. I suspect that this is one of those things where the right fit is paramount. When I asked for a new pair that gave a little more support the orthotic became stiffer, and thus not quite as comfortable.

I used a ready-made orthotic for several years, recommended by my osteopath. Ready-mades are not expensive and the one I had was comfortable and helped me. There used to be a chain of stores that sell ready-mades in all sizes and contours. You can try them on before you buy them. That would be ideal. Don't know if that chain is still around. Don't recall the name, either.

DR George, I have two clip-on lamps, USB-powered, that I bought at Amazon. I clip them onto my book when reading at night and they work very well. I liked the first one so much that I bought a second one in a different color. They do take a few hours to recharge, but otherwise they've been great. Hope your new lamp works out well for you.

Thanks, Jeanne.  I think it will.  Mine is USB also, but it doesn't have a battery.  It's just powered from the USB hook-up on my computer.

So it has to stay plugged into your computer?

Yes.  As soon as it's unplugged, it turns off.

And since I only got it to light up my desk area, it doesn't need batteries or a regular plug because it's not going anywhere. :)

Right. My little book lights, on the other hand, can go anywhere, and there's no cord to get in the way. They'd be great for travel. I was a bit skeptical at first, but I'm now sold on them. And yours makes sense, too.

I do have a couple of little book lights...one is specifically made for Kindles, but I haven't needed either of them in quite a while.

And on that note (C-natural), I'm outta here.  I'm going to get some cat food, then I'll head home.

Be back later.

I won't be able to finish Sanditon today. The last two episodes will have to wait until tomorrow.

I am enjoying it, but I will say that Andrew Davies has stolen liberally from himself, right down to our heroine spying our hero bathing, right out of his Pride and Prejudice.

Theo James as the hero is a well worth giving a nude scene to.

Last episode.  I thought I was going to escape this series without actually screaming at the computer screen, but alas, episode nine got me and scream I did.  So, will episode ten redeem everything with even more smart-ass BS, more speechifying, more characters behaving stupidly, more Alias antics, more Tarantino-bad dialogue.  We await.

Jane, Dr Scholl's has an interesting system for orthotics:

https://www.drscholls.com/products/pain-relief/custom-fit-orthotic-inserts/?gclsrc=aw.ds&&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIy5G4r9fw5wIVzh-tBh2mrgOLEAMYAiAAEgJ7dfD_BwE

Thanks.  I believe I have tried these but will look again.  As you mentioned in your previous post stiff can be an issue as I also need extra cushioning.

At the dentist. It promises to be a long one.

Root canal? Crown? Implant?

It was a chipped tooth.
