Another disgusting press conference with Tramp the Almighty.  The "health people" he's lined up praise his glory and ignore his incompetence.

Thank goodness we have governors (both red AND blue), university presidents, athletic conference and arts administrators, and public library directors who have the guts to do what the Federal government did not.  And I pray that Anthony Fauci doesn't fall off the tight rope he's having to walk and can keep his job.  He seems to be the only grown-up in the room.

Just back from shopping.   I'm almost out of paper towels so I thought I'd try Costco (and also to see what was going on there).  Wow!  There were lines to get in the place, lines to get to the water area and of course to the long check-out lines.   They were completely out of paper towels and toilet paper.   I walked out with nothing.  Then I went to my local supermarket, Giant, and had no trouble getting paper towels and some gallon-size bottles of water, among other items.

Costco delivery had usually in normal times been pretty good, and in the past could deliver same day.

But this week, for the first time, it took two days for delivery, which is really the same as Boxed, and never informed us of things they didn't have, just showed without them.  (Boxed tells you when they're out of something so you can try to get it elsewhere.)

but now I wonder if this week Boxed might have been less efficient than it usually is, too.

It's just that Costco not letting you know they don't have something until they just show up without the items feels TOO no-frills, somehow seems like Costco delivery is great in good times, but may not be set up for being super-busy.

Like in a pandemic.  You might  think they at least might have more personnel they could bring on, but you'd think wrong if you thought that.

This is fine when you can go to the market and just wait in line, though that means being in spitting distance, or at least article sharing distance, of a lot of people.

I think it was Morey Amsterdam who one the phrase "saliva of the fittest."

Friday afternoon greetings!  So I ventured out today for my physical therapy appointment, but otherwise we're self-isolating.  It's not hard to do, because a lot of places we'd be inclined to go are closed.

Bars? They’re closing the bars?

Morey Amsterdam played Buddy as part of Buddy and Sally, on the show which Immaintain James Goldman must have been watching when he named Buddy and Sally for "Follies."  (Sally is a common enough name, but Buddy, not to mention a Buddy paired with a Sally.)

Since we need more posts today, rehashing this theory can take up some posts:

If James Goldman had been watching something else, a different sitcom, the characters in "Follies" might have been Gomer and Lou Ann, or Jethro and Ellie Mae.

So one of the greatest songs ever could just as easily been "In Jethro's Eyes" or "In Gomer's Eyes."

but getting back to Costco - part of the appeal of all this home delivery has been that it' great when you're either really under the weather, and elderly people pretty much rely on it.

They really need to give an option of "NO SUBSTITUTES".

Moral dilemma question.  If you are a qualified person on the team, do you pander to him to stay on the team and hopefully make a difference, or do you walk away?   I suspect some of these people are to be admired.

I'm up, I'm up - seven hours of sleep.  I got involved working on the script of the musical, hence my absence.  I had tuna sandwiches today.  I may run over to the mail place shortly.  The panic and hysteria shopping has not abated today and I would posit that the markets are filled with the same people who caused this yesterday, returning to hoard yet more stuff.  I'm sorry, folks, you can say to me anything you wish, but know panic and hysteria when I see it.   And no, the government, and that includes the idiots of California, are not helping things at all, as they're all saying different things.

I walked by the rotisserie chickens just as they were being put out so I got a nice plump one.  I also pick up a package of pineapple and chicken sausage .

The lines were ridiculous.  I stood on one until we finally moved up enough that I could see the registers.  At which point I saw a self serve register that was completely empty so I walked up checked out my two items and left as there was a mad rush to firm a line behind me
