Today's experiment, thus far, is a fail, at least for me it is.  We'll see if the failure turns to success in about ten minutes.

Good luck!

For my hospital reading I am taking William Mann's Tinseltown.  I've had it since it was published in 2015, and I dug it out after the run of Mack & Mabel.

Only one book?  I hope you can sleep there.

How long do you think I am going to be there?

I like to be over prepared with books in case I can't sleep.

Yes, but I am not you.  One book will suffice.

I ran errands today. I used to think of errands as boring, but these days it's an adventure. First, to the bank. Easy. Few customers and we all kept our distance. Then across the street to Trader Joe's. I was concerned when I saw a line to get in, but there were only a couple people in front of me. Trader Joe's is only allowing a few people in the store at one time, with an employee at the door monitoring it and also squirting people with hand sanitizer. They have also imposed a limit of two of any item.

I was very pleased to find a few loaves of gluten-free bread. Ditto for the liquid hand soap that I like. Paper towels weren't in their usual place, so I asked an employee. "I'll show you," he said and I followed. But someone called to him and after he answered he headed over to the Customer Service desk. I thought he'd forgotten about the paper towels. No, that's where they keep them now. You have to ask for them. No toilet paper available, but I'm OK for now.

Of course, once I got home I thought of a couple more items I forgot to look for.

I then went to my favorite Mexican restaurant. They can only serve take-out and delivery, but take-out works fine with me. I think they've laid off the cook. The owners do everything themselves when business is slow. They haven't reduced their hours, but I fear for their longevity.

My acupuncturist called and said that she's closing the office for two weeks. She received a letter from the City limiting medical services to emergency only. I had an appointment for tomorrow. I do understand the need for distancing, but some of us have ongoing medical issues and need care. An acupuncture treatment would help me stay strong and is also an important part of my pain management program.

I take a lot of Chinese herbs, but as soon as the problems in Wuhan started I began stocking up. So far there's been no problem getting them. She stocks a few other herbs that are particularly well-suited to the new virus.

I was very surprised to learn that 80% of the drugs that Americans take are manufactured in China. I haven't heard of any drug shortages, but it certainly leaves us vulnerable.

Bruce, your Experiment #1 was frozen food. Was it packed with an insulation or cold packs?

Jane, I just received an email from an optical office I go to. They are encouraging their contact lens patients to reorder lenses now, because they don't know how long it'll be before they can offer appointments again. They said that if your prescription changes they'll refund you against the cost of the new lenses. I don't know if this will be standard practice or not, but it would give you a reasonable option.

I am sorry they cancelled you.  Even my eye doctor said she would honor my appointment if I wanted.  I had already intended to call about skipping it.

This is very hard on the restaurant and bar owners.  Bryan said bars in NY are permitted to deliver drinks.

Thanks.  That is my concern about ordering now. I left a message and will likely hear back from from someone in the next couple of days.  My contacts can be difficult to get.

Experiment two is done - time-wise an epic fail but in the end it was successful.  I'll explain more in the notes.

We had a nice video chat with the Chicago family.  They are well and happy.  Bryan is fairly unconcerned about the virus.  He did say his hospital doesn't have tests.  All he can do is send people home to self quarantine if they are suspicious.  So far he hasn't had anyone who needs to be hospitalized.  He doesn't have protective clothing either.

I found it interesting that so far their gyms have not closed and Bryan has been able to continue going.  They are restricted to 50 or fewer people.  Our 24 Hour Fitness had far fewer than that, and they were spread out, the last few times we went before the state shut them down.  Restaurants can stay open for small events of up to 50 people.

We did not see Frayja smile but it has been confirmed she has two dimples :)   Before she was born I imagined she would have dimples.
