I have a question for the class.

What are these emoji avatar things that suddenly this weekend everyone I know is posting on Facebook? What’s up with that? Why is this suddenly a thing? Will I be offending anyone here when I say this is possibly the stupidest, most juvenile (and I don’t mean that in a good way) thing I’ve seen on that site yet? Seriously, WTF?

I don't know how it's being done, DR ChasSmith, but I suspect it requires a level of access to your photos that I'm not willing to give.

I don't even know what you are talking about.  I don't see any new avatars.  I only know of the new hug emoji, which I like, which has nothing to do with the avatars that I know of.

The avatars aren't actually being used as such. People are simply posting what their new "temporary" made up one would look like, usually without any comment. Some say "temporary", others don't. One person does it, others react to it, sometimes they post their own new made up one in response.

And I don't care how it's done. Last thing I need to know. I'm just wondering at the silly nature of it all.

So far I haven't seen those.  Unless you are talking about the cartoon, or drawing of them.  I haven't actually seen anyone change their avatar.  Yes, I agree it is silly and there are so many of them-lol

Since I haven't gone anywhere in my car for more than a week, I thought I would take a page from MR BK's book and drive around the neighborhood.

The battery did drag a BIT, but the engine started right up.  I drove past each of my brothers' and sisters' houses - well the five of them that live in town - and past the schools and into downtown to see how the tornado damage recovery is going.....

All is well.....

We need to drive our car today to fill the gas tank.

Brock Peters was in that misbegotten film version of Lost in the Stars that I would still like to see again.

I for one would not, and I like the show a lot.  My only memory ofd the film is Melba Moore hanging onto a washline and shaking while she sang "Trouble Man!"

I remember hating most everything about the movie, but is it really that bad with the likes of Brock Peters and Melba Moore in it? Probably, which is a real shame.

Don't know what the emoji thing is but if it's on Facebook I'm sure there is no doubt that everyone is overusing it, much like the word "droplets."

Note that the person hasn't actually changed their avatar. They're just going somewhere and making one of these images that SUPPOSEDLY looks like them (none of them do, trust me), and posting it. Because everyone else is doing it. And isn't that fun?

I'd never seen Robert Altman's BREWSTER McCLOUD before, so when it was on cable the other night, I recorded it.

I just watched it.

Actually, I only watched the first half, then turned it off.

I know that a lot of people love Altman and his films, and I certainly like M.A.S.H., NASHVILLE, THE PLAYER and others.

But, this one in a mess. Maybe everything makes sense at the end, but that was too long to wait.

From what I've read, they didn't have a decent script when filming began, so they pretty much worked off-the-cuff.

Yes, I'll be watching!  I was in the audience for the show and really enjoyed it.

Good afternoon.  It was a rainy cold morning so I didn't think the guys would come to fix the flashing around a window on my roof.  So I went to the grocery store and before I got home they were calling me.  So, they got that fixed and fixes and down spout that wasn't working right.  They were going to replace some shakes that are around my windows, but if I start that we need to replace them all and I just don't want to do that right now.  I paid them a little extra because they anticipated a bigger job that I didn't change until they got here. and they were fine with that. They did good work and with the tip I'm sure they'll come back if I need more done.  They were very nice

While the guys were working outside i started scraping the gazebo.  I'm going to paint it over the next couple weeks and do some other painting and repair work around the house.

 I have a neighbor who does carpentry. (he's also a biology teacher). Anyway, he said he'd take a look at my basement room.  Years ago I started redoing it and a former client did part of the drywall then never came back....well he came back about a year later and said he'd been in an accident.  Anyway, the job was never todally done.  I finished mudding and sanding the drywall and painted, but I never got the trim done.  Then I had water and had to cut up about 6 inches because the dry wall was wet.   So, my bright idea is to put beadboard up maybe 3 feet or whatever looks good with a chair rail.  Ken said that sounded like a good idea.   The water issue was fixed, I just haven't fixed the wall.    It's the cat room.   I'm planning to get a new sliding glass door for that room this summer.  I told the window guy to wait a while to do the estimate so I know I can afford it.
