In 2001, when Ian Mackellan recorded Babes In Toyland at Abby Road with Ian Richardson, I told him when I met him "You were robbed of that Academy Award for Gods and Monsters." I also got to tell Richardson how wonderful he was in that 1976 revival of My Fair Lady.
The two Ians were a complete hoot. After one of their takes of the dialogue between Toymaker and Barnaby, one of them said to John McGlinn, who was pushing them to be melodramatically over the top, "Was that take too much? After another, we'll be reduced to doing pantomime."
