Ginny, I started listening to The Giver of Stars and after 16 whole minutes, I find it too much like the Book Woman of Troublesome Creek to want to continue. You said it was the lesser of the two books, but would you suggest I just move on?

They are very much alike, yet different.  I suggest moving on if it doesn't have your attention & read it in the long future.  I intentionally read them close to each other to compare.  I might have preferred the writing style of Giver, and a few other parts about it.  I believe Ginny preferred the writing of Creek.

I wonder how I would have felt if I read Creek first, which had been my intention until my book group intervened.

DR elmore, while I agree you should take your meds with you have they said you can actually control taking your own meds?  Usually they prescribe and distributed them.  I did have an exception when the hospital didn't carry one of my medications.

I have meds I take daily, and I see no reason why I should not be taking them in hospital.  I know what not to take for the past two days and tomorrow, but after surgery, I'll go back to them unless they tell me not to.

I am not doubting your ability to take your own medications. Good luck they will let you as they like to be in control at the hospital.

What annoyed me the most about having to rely on the hospital to get my medications, is that they did not give me my thyroid medication at the appropriate time.  You are not supposed to eat for an hour after taking it, yet my breakfast was served 20 minutes prior to my Synthroid.

Elmore, if you’re taking your phone, don’t forget everything that you use with it, adapter, ear buds, etc.

I'm taking the phone and its charger but I hope no one calls me!

turn the ringer off. Don't let it beep when texts come in, either. I find that kind of thing stresses me out.

I have my office calls forwarded to an office cell phone while I'm working at home.  When I decide the office is closed, I mute the phone.  It works.  If people call, you can get the messages later

Sunday afternoon greetings!  Fr. Richard conducted a nice Pentecost service on Zoom this morning for the church in Beavercreek.  We've had our traditional after church brunch of fried egg sandwiches and bacon.

DR Ginny, as you get updates from Josh, can you post them on my Facebook Timeline?  I would really appreciate that.

I'll do my best, DR Elmore!  I will relay Josh's messages here and on Facebook.  Richard and I send you all our best for an uneventful procedure and a smooth recovery  :-*

They told me not to bring my meds with me for the last surgery. I guess the metformin didn't agree with the anesthesia or something. Given how bad the food was, my blood sugar was actually normal then.

I thought Troublesome Creek had a truer ring to it and, of the 2 books, was the one that made me want a sequel.  DR Jane's advice to "move on if it doesn't have your attention" applies to most any book, in my opinion.

I think waiting is a good idea. I won't be forced to compare the two all the time.

I went ahead and started another book I've been wanting to read for a while now: Girl, Woman, Other, which won the Man Booker this past year along with Margaret Atwood's The Testaments.

Now I'm going out on the front porch to read my current book:  Geraldine Brooks' Year of Wonders: A Novel of the Plague.  Who's read that one?

Waiting for it at the library/OverDrive. I think it's due in a week.

I just watched a touching news story of all the volunteers helping to clean up the mess in Seattle.  Tons, and tons of glass :(

It is. But then again, Boys of Syracuse doesn’t use a single line of Shakespeare. But it was the last show (outside of Henry VIII) of Shakespeare’s that I hadn’t seen. So, I had to watch it once.

The “peaceful event” to honor George Floyd that was planned for downtown yesterday was indeed peaceful. But things got out of control after a splinter group moved blocks away and got into a fight with armed locals supporting the Alamo (which had been graffitied this week). So, we have a curfew here. And on it goes.

Actually, it does use one line of Shakespeare's play!

Decided to try the carbonara from the Cheesecake Factory - way too rich for the likes of me, so didn't finish it.  But the big problem was the container had come loose and the cream sauce was everywhere - I got most of the food out intact but what a mess - it was all over the bag, the utensils, and the bread.  Gross.

I am surprised you haven't been told anything about that.  Did you double check your paper work?  Certainly leave pain meds but other prescriptions, take a few days just in case your hospital is different.
