I too have a truck story......

One Tuesday evening in January, 197something......we were sitting in our church at our regular Tuesday night study hour.

It was snowy and icy out and the street beside the church ran uphill....

During the meeting, we kept hearing a horn blowing loudly.....a truck horn.  After awhile some of us went out to look.

A semi had come off the highway and turned up our street, but couldn't make it up the incline.

He was slowly sliding back down and toward all of our cars which were parked at the edge of the lot facing the street.

We called to get him help.....and with the sand and chains from the police, he eventually made it up the hill.  We had immediately moved our cars to a safer spot in the parking lot.

I see Cardinal Dolan, one of the biggest examples of a slimy priest I've seen in some time, will give the opening prayer for next week's GOP convention.  How appropriate.

Awoke to several emails - the Scenie Awards came out today.  LOTS of 'em.  The  Man Who Came to Dinner won quite a few including Best Actor and Actress for Jim Beaver and Hartley Powers, for supporting Michael Gabiano (he played Banjo when the show was reviewed by this guy), Kay Cole, Chris Winfield, and Susan Priver and the entire company for best ensemble (understand there are multiple "winners" in EACH category) - I haven't seen the list but I know our costume designer won an overall award for ALL his work, and then I got one for directing The Man Who Came to Dinner.  In My Mind's Eye got only one, I think, breakout performance by a lead actor - Bobby Slaski - and well deserved, I may add, but for my money the entire cast should have gotten one, especially the two female leads, Kait Haire and Peyton Kirkner.

Congratulations!

That was a scary story with a happy ending.

Ask BK.
You were mentioned last night in a reunion of the LA production of Naked Men Singing. The referee to Varese and Bruce (forgot your last name) that you were approached to record the cast album because you did The Gay 90s. But you eventually turned them down. Can you explain why?

That's funny that they remember that.  I turned them down because I didn't like the show or the songs.  I gather it ultimately changed a bit before their long run in NYC.  Had I known that run was going to happen I might have, but the Gay 90s sold about three copies so I just wasn't in the mood :)

I guess I’m one of three people. I happen to like the recording very much. Great collection of songs and beautifuly done by the cast

Something odd. Sounded like Ribbons Down My Back but wasn’t.

I read a story that the truck son is Turkey In the Straw.  Trucks will be changing the tune as the minstrel song is racist.

That reminds me of my truck story

From 1977 - 1984 I worked for UPS

By the early 80’s I was a supervisor, we were required to go on the road and drive a package car (one if those brown trucks) whenever there was a shortage of drivers.

We had a lot of heavy snowstorms in the 1980’s and drivers would call in “sick” so we front line supervisors would end up on the road.

There is a road on the north shore called Bread and cheese hollow road that is very steep and very curvy.

I had several deliveries up there, but about half way up the hill the vehicle said”nope, don’t think so” and started sliding backwards

Back then ( I don’t know about now) the package cars were standard transmission, I had that thing in lowest gear and was literally standing on the brake pedal, I even pulled the  parking brake

Fortunately it was snowing enough that normal people stayed home and when I slid down the hill and across the main road and into a snow bank there was no one else in the way
